Mystery Bags and Italy Loot

Share:

When the Facebook request limits became limitless, you heard about it here first (1). The next day Italy loot became giftable and players started sending out as many Mystery Bag requests as possible. This is because one of the things contained in Mystery Bags is an item on your wishlist. Based on the results of my last Italy high end loot drop study, it was determined that each Roman Legion would cost you about 75,069 energy (1). It seems more practical to add Italy high end loot to your wishlist and open as many Mystery Bags as possible. The limit on the number of Mafia Wars Free Gifts you can accept a day is 200.  Until Facebook imposes a limit on the number of application requests you can send per day, you will most likely get enough Mystery Bags returned to you if you send around 1,000 of your mafia members.
There is another way to easily open 200 Mystery Bags a day without utilizing any Facebook requests. I wrote about this method in the post titled Bagman-Mugger Automates The Free Gift Get-a-Nator. Now is a good time to review the steps and take a look at the results.

1.  Update your wishlist with the Italy loot items you want.
2.  Run the Free Gift Get-a-Nator. In the example below, I scanned the Facebook news feeds for the past 24 hours. This was probably a little excessive as 33,300 links were found.
3.  Go to whatever Free Gift item you want to open and copy the shorted links located in the second box of each gift. From my scan above, 300 Mystery Bag links were found. You can also use the links for items that have been converted to Mystery Bags like all of the Cyber Warfare items.
4. Open up Bagman-Mugger and paste your links into the links list box. Since Bagman considers these links a manual list, you need to make adjust your time limit checks to 800-1000.
5. Now just click on run and wait for the Bagman-Mugger to open up all of your gift links. Out of the 300 Mystery Bag links from my Get-a-Nator scan, 173 were successfully opened. Out of 173 Mystery Bags, 9 contained wishlist items.
Here are all 173 items I got from opening Mystery Bags. Bagman-Mugger will also list who the items came from but I'm only showing what the items were in the image below.
A nice update of Bagman Mugger is it now lists gift errors by code and unlike Zynga, it tells you what the code means. If a player isn't in your mafia, Bagman will also give you the players Mafia Wars link. Since I did a scan of 24 hours, I wasn't surprised to find I had already opened many of the 300 links.
One thing that irritates be about Mystery Bags is that so many of the items are useless. For example, Mystery Bag Collection Items. This collection has most likely been vaulted by every player and there is no revault. The fact that the vaulting bonus is an outdated loot item, what's the point?  What can I do with the 103 Shoe Prints I already have? Nobody I know wants them.
Bagman-Mugger is not limited to Mystery Bags. Any of the links picked up by the Get-a-Nator will work. I decided to collect Harmless Spiders with the remaining gifts of my 200 gift accepting limit. I used the links from the same Get-a-Nator scan from above.
I knew going in many would have already been accepted but I was close to the limit so it wasn't a big deal. Once you hit your Zynga imposed limit for collecting gifts, Bagman will let you know in the error code log and it will automatically pause. It will also let you know when you will be able to accept more gifts. I have to wait 14 hours and could care less that I missed out on collecting 14 more Spiders!

Thanks to Arvind for posting these instructions on the Mafia Wars Loot Lady Fan Page and reminding players to utilize Mystery Bags to get more Italy Loot.

  1. I might be doing something wrong, but it seems the Bagman Mugger doesn't open Mini E-packs.

That's too bad, since they don't count towards your gift limit and you can get a lot of extra MBs easily. Also, since the links work every day, you'd have to do the list only once and make a daily run with it. My mafia would be glad as well... :)

  6. I checked 164 blue MBs. Of those, only 48 were successful. From the 48 successfully opened, there were NO wishlist items. All 48 were boosts.
