City Of Traverse: Pay To Play

Share:

For the past 3 days, we have been curious to know what was going to happen when the Secret District, City of Traverse unlocked (1). The mastery showing for players was the same that they achieved when the City of Traverse was available.
Many waited in anticipation for the timer to expire.
The new trend for Zynga has been to charge Reward Points for new features but I was surprised (I shouldn't have been) to see a "Unlock Now for 25 RP" button.
I already mastered the City of Traverse but curiosity go the best of me. When I unlocked it, I was taken to the Secret District and the same bonus skill point and loot tracker window that we have in the Lexington Hotel appeared. I got +5 attack points because I already had 10 of the loot items.
When I attempted to do a job, I was booted out of the City of Traverse and a "Unlock Now for 35 RP" button appeared and all of my mastery was taken away.
I hate to be so curious but I couldn't help myself. I spent 35 more Reward Points (a total of 60) and now I have to master the City of Traverse all over again. I will get another mastery item and 35 (according to Leonard, you don't get the skill point for the last job you master) skill points. If I get 50 of each loot item (I plan to stay on bronze until I do), I will get 15 more skill points.  Zynga is going crazy with pay to play features and I'm about ready to stop promoting features that cost Reward Points. My advertisers pay to put ads on my blog and now so should Zynga!
Horse Racing Stubs aren't on the Free Gift Page so it looks like we are expected to farm them. If you plan on redoing this Secret District, go here for a complete walk through. I will let you know if there are any changes in loot drops and exp/energy ratios that might make it worth repeating. Depending on how many loot items you get, it may be worth the cost because of all the extra skill points. It is the holidays and I have family in town so I don't have time to go through it right now. If they want us to pay, they better put the consumable back on the Free Gift Page.
The paid version of the City of Traverse will be available for 12 days from the time of reset.

  1. "My advertisers pay to put ads on my blog and now so should Zynga!"

With you being Mafia Wars' #1 advertising source, you're damned straight they should be paying you Jennifer! Between the LL blog and TIP, Zynga receives more free advertising than any other source!

I thank you for your FREE services...and so should Zynga!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Jennifer...to you and your crew at the blog.

  8. been saying this for awhile now, eventually they will try and make all new content pay to play, since they know at this point mostly only hardcore/addicted players are left, they may as well milk it for all they can..

  9. Jennifer - Im pissed off with the way Zynga is treating their player base..they are a big scam house...i pity you for spending 60 reward points to get that crappy City of Traverse again...I guess let's all say "Fuck you Zynga"

  10. What a waste of points. I will be waiting till its turned on for free. If its not then guessing I will not be playing the PAID levels.

  11. Wow, I can't believe you are not so UN-impressed with this crapola Jennifer. :-(

So now we see where the game is REALLY going... not gonna be shut down, but will be pay_to_play, and the free play will be so disenchanting that all of those players will just quite like so many have already.
I think I would be willing to pay maybe $15 a month to play the game, but this outrageousness of everything costing so many RPs, I won't play that game, and I really can't afford to.
I guess the last 2 years of my life have been wasted on this game... oh well, I guess we knew it wouldn't last forever, but who would have guessed zynga's greed would push it to this state.
    Thanks for nothing zynga...

  13. I hope no one will get in City of Traverse anymore so that Z may know we are not happy for it. The more peeps will get in, the more they will be doing it.

  15. Typical Zynga... Screw the Players and what they want. I paid the 25 rps to play as it requested But Im not paying another 35. There's no point in asking Zynga anything about this as they don't care, but also I have to say that overall we cannot completely condemn them for everything as this is a great game ... we wouldn't be playing it if it wasn't. But they should have said unlock for 60rps if that's what they wanted and at least be upfront about things...

  16. The simple issue with pay for play is that Zynga is a business and they are not making enough money.. so here we go.....

  17. "My advertisers pay to put ads on my blog and now so should Zynga!" Just a note about an advertiser - Denon rocks, especially now with AirPlay. I love it!!!

  18. What's wrong with this? Obviously there are some bugs, it wouldn't be Zynga otherwise, but you're looking at 50 skill points for 60 RP (or less if/when they sort out paying twice).

  19. once everyone that refuses to pay to play leaves the game the hardcore players will leave too and then zynga will have nothing

  20. I don't have any particular problems with them migrating to a Pay for Play model - would rather they didn't, and may play (and pay) less than I have been as a result - but if they're going to do this they need to FIX THE BUGS, INCREASE THE RELIABILITY, AND MAKE IT MORE RESPONSIVE. I don't feel I have a right to complain very much when I'm using something essentially for free - but if I'm paying, I demand a certain level of quality.

  22. I would no longer tolerate Zynga squeezing me for money. If i want to pay for a game, i will buy one for my XBOX. Go suck one ZYNGA!!!!!!.

  23. The last 2 years weren't a WASTE of time. It was lots of fun. Now, it's time to find a different FREE game (lots to choose from).

  24. Not wasting my time or rp's for a district already mastered. Like everyone else has said, they need to pay you. Sounds like this is the beginning of the end for Mafia Wars and the average everyday player. I will eventually use up what little rp's I have left.

  25. i will be more respect if they said 60 RP instead of 25 RP .. This is very very tricky . They take all 25 RP from us for free!!!

  26. Just finished. You don't get another ruby level Floating Casino. Only 3rd lever appeared in my inventory.

  28. Amazing how Google can provide free blogs to millions of people...I have almost ten...provide free map service...free Google Earth...free gmail.....and they never have a bandwidth problem, and the glitches are few and far between and fixed quickly. My hope is that Google buys up facebook and Zynga and run them like the other things they run....free and problem free. I ask Santa for this, but he must have known that I've been bad. Probably has something to do with all the cursing I do at my computer when on facebook or trying to play MW's.
