Aug 14-15 No Play, Click or Trade: Update #2

Share:

3 days ago, I posted an article titled Aug 14-15 No Play, Click or Trade: Update.  I had no idea at the time that this would be viewed by so many.  I get an e-mail anytime someone makes a comment on my blog.  Last night my phone was going crazy.  Everyone around me thought I was so popular and it was really cool.  I didn't want my friends to find out that I'm really a dork who writes about a computer game so I never mentioned the source of all these messages.  Honestly, who would understand it?  Real world people don't get Mafia Wars and the addiction it causes some people to have.  When I got back on line, I discovered exactly what was going on.  I was hoping that my blog had just magically become an overnight sensation but this was not the case.  In support of The No Play, Click or Trade Boycott, Arun added a little something to his popular bookmarklets The Chucker and Brawler.

The Mafia Wars Autoplayer will be working, but PlayerScripts.com will add banners to the settings encouraging players not to play.  They will not answer any support requests during the No Play, Click or Trade Event.  This was announced today in a post titled Aug.14-15: No Play, Click or Trade by Janman, one the sites co-founders.  There are a total of 5 founders for PlayerScripts.com, the other four are KCMCL, Frosty, Camburger and StevenD (the original author of the MWAP).  The article discussed above was also linked in this announcement.
Look what all this did to my reader statistics!  My article also has 64 comments.
I read every comment and feel a need to reply to them in general.  Comments ranged from those of support to those of ridicule and some were in the middle.  First and foremost I want everyone to know that the boycott is not something that anybody is trying to force.  If you are not happy than this is something you can do to express it.  Most Mafia Wars players respect the views of others.  I understand that some think this event is "stupid" and they will not be attending.  I don't think less of them for it.  It's a personal choice and how you play and what you do is up to you.  The main objective of this blog is to provide information to all players.  It just so happens that I'm a trader and a unsatisfied Mafia Wars player.  I support the event.  I'm not "whining" or "crying to my moma" about the changes that Zynga has made, I just don't like them.  I'm also not saying that I hate Zynga and want to control what they do with their game.  I can understand why some of these changes were made.  No Play, Click, of Trade is about reasonable compromise.  The leaders of this event want to handle things in a professional format that is conducive to negotiating so that all parties are satisfied with the end result.  Contrary to what many believe, this event has already gotten attention from Zynga.  If you visit No Play, Click Or Trade Event Page you will see that the number of supporters has grown (15,101 at the time of this post) and notice an informative update has been made.
WE ARE PRESENTLY IN 11TH HOUR NEGOTIATIONS TO END THIS EVENT.

ZYNGA HAS AGREED TO A LIST OF DEMANDS WITH TIMELINES IN PLACE.

WE HAVE A CONFERENCE CALL SCHEDULED FRIDAY AND

WILL BE RECEIVING A WRITTEN STATEMENT BY TOMORROW.
WE WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED AS THIS UNFOLDS.

Things are looking very good right now. We have given them a list of demands and want resolution with timelines. They have agreed to 5 of 9 to be addressed immediately with a timeline and the other 4 will be talked about in detail in our conference call on Friday.

This event will be pulled and our supporters emailed with the written statement as soon as I have it.

Success wave one: BK loot is now giftable. YAY!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
This is really good news for the entire Mafia Wars Community.  I wanted to know more about the demands that were discussed.  David Reedy, Creator of No Play, Click, or Trade provided me with the following which list all 9 demands and what is currently being done about them.
1) We are requesting ongoing communication with the Zynga team and a committee from our group of 4-5 people, Skype meeting or similar venue.
2) We want the return of gifting of the Bangkok loot that was recently made UNGIFTABLE.
3) An in-game tool for multi gifting.
4) Giftable trade-worthy animals as we previously discussed.
5) REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE.
6) RETURN OF THE BONUSES FOR MASTERMIND/WHEELMAN OR THE XP/ENERGY JOB RATIO BACK.
7) PLAYERS NEED TO BE ABLE TO POST HELP/RED AND BLUE MYSTERY BAGS/REVOLVING BARREL ISSUES...... NORMAL GAME PLAY ISSUES.
8) Time frames are very important as being told to be patient has gotten very old.
9) We are finding many legitimate traders who are having their accounts disabled by MW simply for gifting and/or possessing an abundance of items. They seemingly have no recourse in the actions.
We would like an appeals process to be set up to review these cases so these people can be shown proof of any crimes committed and reasons for the judgement or be re-activated... recourse.

It was agreed on that the first 4 items and #9 would be done. Items 5-8 will take more time.

Check your stash... BK loot is now giftable.
We will choose 2 animals that meet trade-worthy status.
We will have regular conference calls with Zynga developers to better the game for the trader and the trade community.
New gifting tools are being worked on and we will have input to their design. .
Arbitration for disabled accounts WILL be available, we'll just have to work out the details.
Spockholm Mafia Tools also has something to say about this event.  Team Spockholm supports the event but will keep their bookmarklets turned on.  Pete will discuss this on The Spockholm Report which is a weekly feature of The Evil Ed Podcast.  David Reedy from The Kingpin Trading Market and Brett Hardy from The Mafia Wars Trading Club will also be on the show discussing the No Play, Click, or Trade Event.
We encourage everyone to listen to this weeks Evil Ed Podcast and the Spockholm Report. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=105621752815042
This weeks report specifically addresses Team Spockholms stand on the Boycott. Here is an except what you will hear.

Martin and I have also been trying to figure out our place in the recently announced boycott. Many have asked us to turn off the Bmlets for the day, which on its face seems like a good idea.

However, after we have had some time to digest the intent of the boycott we feel we cannot. Let me take a moment to explain. Most of the users complaints about changes by the Zyngons revolve around unannounced untested rule changes inflicted on the customer without a care in the world. If we are to shutdown BMlets we are removing the end-users choice to play or not play. We are not here to control their actions. We do not want to have that kind of power. Stan Lee said it best. WITH GREAT POWER THERE MUST ALSO COME - - GREAT RESPONSIBILITY! We take this very seriously; If we shutdown then we would be no worse than the Zyngons. Having a choice is why we exist at Spockholm. Some people are willing to assume the risk of using a BMlet because they help make the repetitive actions of the game tolerable. We want our fans to have a choice, THEIR choice not ours.
The author of the book the Godfather, Mario Puzo, said "never get angry, Never make a threat. Reason with People." I have a belief as I posted on the Spockholm wall this week that if the Zyngons invite us to to the table to talk, we can find a happy middle ground for players of all kinds. Invite Clan Leaders, Trading Admin, average users, and do not leave the Script Writers on the fringe of the Mafia Wars Community we are an instrumental piece of the success of it. This will sound like I am saying without BMlets Mafia Wars will fail. It may it may not. But ponder this, if we (spockholm) were not necessary then our community would not grow. However, it does and we continue to promote a game we love to dislike and dislike loving. We (the community) do challenge the Zyngons to step up and focus on customer service. Listen and respond to the consumers. Your customer base is screaming at the top of their lungs with suggestions to keep them active and potentially paying customers. Please stop placating us with Forum topics encouraging feedback and then it is completely ignored on the next midnight rollout of bug-ridden changes.

  1. I wish someone had of demanded better drop loot rate, as this week, the FHEL2 have gotten really bad. Mine has dropped to very very few good items, like the Buzzard Combat Choppers
    and so on.

  3. Loot drop rates are planned to be discussed. Our list is many... only the short list is displayed.
Please note that we are working hard to address all these concerns for the daily player.
