If you look at the Application metrics that are reported by Facebook. Mafia Wars has something squirrley going on today. The data and charts below came from AppData and are from the most recently updated reports which occurred on Jan 13th, 2012. Just two days ago, Mafia Wars had positive growth reported.

This large drop in data is quite noticeable on the DAU graph.

Just yesterday, I posted about a growth spike which was attributed to the Assassin's Academy (1). I couldn't find anything explaining a change in reporting from the Facebook side. The formula for calculating active users was last updated on October 14th of last year (1). This could be a bug in reporting or maybe another update in reporting methodology. Whatever the case may be, the number is probably way more accurate than anything previously reported.

ReplyDeleteZynga has counting problems, if you didn't notice that yet.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they do an IP check on all active accounts. If same IP play more than one account during that day, it will only register as one player. Ergo, more accurate and Zynga will probably be pissed since they have tried to hide this enormous drop.
