Aces in 5 Card Draw

Share:

In Mafia Poker, Aces are the highest ranked cards. In most poker games they are also the lowest. This rule does not apply to Mafia Poker so if you get A-2-3-4-5 (also know as a wheel) you don't have a straight. Your hand will be counted as Ace High. Poker is a simple game but house rules often apply and mix things up. Mafia Poker is a variation of 5 Card Draw and Zynga makes the rules. If you look closely at the in game rules, they clearly state the order of the cards as Ace being the highest card. There is no mention of Ace also being the lowest therefore wheel straights will not count.
Aryanto and Otis learned this the hard way and posted losing assumed straights on the Mafia Wars Loot Lady Fan Page. This sucks for Aryanto but it will help many players from drawing into a fake straight.
Customer Support posted a Mafia Poker FAQ and addressed this. Their grammar makes it confusing to understand the logic but it clearly says that A-2-3-4-5 is not a straight (1). They posted the same thing on the Mafia Wars Blog and the typo (or just bad grammar) carried over (1). You would think whoever copied who would ask the other what in the hell does "Five cards of in sequence" mean?

Thanks to Mark Allan for keeping on top of this and posting on the fan page.

  1. So, by this logic.... the A2345 of spades would be a flush, but not a straight flush?
