Yesterday players started to getting the continuous play error message which originally was being called an experiment (1). Obviously this caused panic as the warning doesn't give specifics and Zynga never bothered to let their players know it was coming.

Accounts that log actions for 20 or more continuous hours without a minimum of 4 hours in between are flagged and will receive this message. If this is not the case and you are seeing this message, please submit a ticket to Customer Support for investigation. CM __________________ |
Today there was more about this on the Customer Support Page. It looks like they are putting out a blanket statement warning players not to use automation. I think this will do more harm than good because players who aren't using automation are the ones getting the message. Ironically, I tried to get this message using a useless energy account. It's been going for over 24 hours now and I still haven't got the warning. Players who are not using any scripts and just happen to keep Mafia Wars open are the ones who seem to be affected.
Warning/Suspension Messages in Mafia Wars
Updated 12/07/2011 at 17:43
Hello Mafia players,
The Mafia Wars Team has put in place a system to help us detect automatic game play and some accounts have received a warning message. Please remember that irregular activities can include, but are not limited to:
- High-frequency activity that is beyond humanly possible means
- High-frequency activity that serves no in-game benefit
- Attempts to repeatedly access links not promoted by Zynga
- Attempts to access/manipulate your account through other means to give yourself an advantage, or to the detriment of the experience of other players
- Unauthenticated acceleration in statistics, points or items
We strongly advise to avoid using any automation software or unauthorized third-party program designed to modify or interfere with the game. Please notice that Customer Support agents are not authorized to lift suspensions. For further information, we encourage to check the following article Suspension FAQ.
Thanks,
The Mafia Wars Team

I've just joined player scripts xr6 auto play, so does this mean I've just wasted my money with them?
ReplyDeleteANOTHER subtle way to pi$$ the majority of MW players off. Depending on Mafia size/energy/stamina some have no choice but to run spocklets constantly to get the achievements offered. It looks to me Zynga are trying to totally freeze bookmarklets out of the game, do that and it looses majority of its player base and they will refuse to sit for hours click clicking. Very clever Zynga, its obvious to us now your killing MW's off, doing it this way gives you the excuse to shut it all down in 6 - 12 months and blame the MASSIVE decline in players and only have to pay off a minority of those left who have spent actual real money on this game (Zynga for President or Prime Minister - your just as bad!)
ReplyDeleteAnd you called those of us who thought you were cheating "trolls." Looks like Zynga isn't as okay with automation as you claimed there were.
ReplyDeleteBut, of course, you'll continue to justify it in some way or other, because that is how you want to play the game. Why not just admit it's cheating and get over it?
(By the way, you're misusing the word, "troll." An internet troll is someone who says things they don't really believe just to illicit a response. That's not what's happening here.)
@anonymous, I have freely posted exactly how I play my game and never denied that I use scripts. Call it whatever you want. If that is cheating in your mind then ok I'm a cheater. The bottom line is scripts make Zynga money and keep players. The only thing they are trying to prevent here is full blown automation (which they probably won't be able to do). A troll to me is someone who comes to a blog or forum and makes statements that are insulting and not productive. Just because you prefer to define cheating and trolling a certain way doesn't mean it's correct for everyone. If people don't like the way I define and explain things then they should go read other blogs. Kind of simple....unless you read the smaller ones that copy everything I do.
ReplyDeleteThere's been virtually NO enforcement of Zynga's TOS in MW, those that choose to use scripts are fair game for suspension, but Zynga has little incentive to do so, most script players also spend REAL dollars and some a very heavily invested to date.....unfortunately there is NO refund, was not one during the exit from MySpace community, will not be any refund here......the only true GF is Zynga.
ReplyDeleteOkay I must be a troll.. I use scripts.. I love this game But have RA ( Rheumatoid Arthritis) and If wasn't for the scripts I couldn't play the game, I can't sit and click for long periods of time, But I don't use them in Wars or Drive Byes.. Just for the everyday things that goes with this game.. BTW Love your Blog and read it everyday..

How do you go from "ANY automation software" to only "full blown automation." I said you would find a way to continue to justify it and I was right. My problem with this is that you are influencing people to cheat by telling them it's okay to run scripts. It's not okay.
i'm already considering only playing every other day, and NEVER again take part in any timed event whatsoever. i'll return gifts to those who are, but that's it. i've also almost always spent a little bit of money every payday for RPs even if just $5, but that ends forever now because i agree that this is just a cover for driving people out of the game so they can justify ending it forever.
ReplyDeleteWhat in the heck does...
ReplyDelete"Attempts to repeatedly access links not promoted by Zynga"
... mean?
Any automation software is referring to scripts that you set up and walk away from for days. Standard bookmarklets that only click for you are not what they are targeting. If that were the case the warning would be much different and the word automation wouldn't even be there. It would just say all software. From going to SF and hearing what they had to say about the issue, I know a little more about it than most. The key word is automation. They also say it's advised not that it's forbidden. Trust me on this, the majority of the player base use scripts. Kill them and it's so long Mafia Wars much sooner than it probably will be. You should thank to so called cheaters because without them Zynga wouldn't make enough money to justify keeping the game on their menu and you wouldn't be able to play. It is okay for those of us who use scripts and I've never denied it's at your own risk. It's only ok because when scripts go so do we and most using scripts are okay with that.
ReplyDeletePfft...LOL@Jen Any automation means any automation fighting scripts are automation. It doesn't matter if you use it for 5 minutes, 5 hours or 5 days. It is still automation.
ReplyDeleteStop trying to justify the fact that what you do is now defined clear as day as CHEATING.
Zynga only has itself to blame, after all its the one who instigated all these mafia wars events running at the same time designed so that they cannot be done in a reasonable amount of time; from the secret districts, to the challenge mission events, to the gifting events, to the missions/operations, to the development of mafia wars cities properties; how do we exactly find the time to do all these extra new content mafia wars gaming part to be ultimately be a somewhat successful mafia wars player???
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous poster who made a reference to the zynga prime minister.
ReplyDeleteZynga policy, well recently, as long as I've been playing has been no third party scripts, at least that's what they say. But not what they do. So you're badmouthing them now that they choose to do something about it? hmmmm....
Like MWlootlady I also use scripts. But I've accepted the fact that Zynga can revoke my account at any time for using them. But until then I'm just having some fun.
If Zynga considered what you call cheating to be cheating than why would they establish relationships with Player Scripts and Spockholm Mafia Tools. It's a well known fact that members from both these sites were selected to be on the Player Advisory Committee. If they felt what I was doing was so wrong, why did they contract me to write for their blog? It's clearly a look the other way and they are the ones to blame for all the arguing because they fail to clearly define what is and what is not cheating. Nobody is going to be suspended for following the things I post on my blog. I don't need to justify anything I do and will keep doing it until I decide to quit the game. Since scripts are free (well most of them) for ALL players I feel that it's only fair that all players should be able to use them and not just the ones with computer backgrounds. You don't need to read this blog if you don't agree with or like what I post. Your arguments have zero influence with me so why waste your time commenting? At least have the balls to sign your name, lol.
ReplyDeleteOh la la here we go again same old record same old hat argument. If some of you folk do not like the fact Jen covers the use of scripts then do not read her blog then your nose will not be put out of joint.
ReplyDeleteAlso next time you have a driveby hit your wall try fighting without switch, yes thats right a script designed by a third party not Zynga. Maybe you might want to unframe as your game runs better without a ton of FB crap around it yet again a third party script.
If you choose not to use scripts of any sort fine, if you choose to use them then fine. At the end of the day we all play one game how we choose to do it is personal choice.
This game has suffered huge loses and the few of us left playing could use our energy in a far more constructive way than arguing over who plays the game this way or that way.

Well Said. My family loves Jen and the Spockholm Team and all of those who contribute so much help to our gaming. If Spockholm had written the game, it would actually work the way it's supposed to and we wouldn't be having these discussions about how forktarded Zynga is... which is actually an idea worth considering ^_~
