Game Card Redemption Bonus Nerf

Share:

I recall reading that Zynga just made billions of dollars when their IPO went public last week. We were given a great deal for for redeeming Game Cards in honor of the Holidays. I posted all about it here. I guess it's greed before customer satisfaction at Zynga and billions of dollars aren't enough. Shortly after my post and without warning, the 60% Redemption Bonus was nerfed to 30%. I was going to buy more Reward Points but they can forget about it now. It's not smart to piss of players who were willing to spend money. Now they are going to get 0 more dollars from me and probably many players. This kind of sleazy move is exactly what makes me want to quit the game.

Before : 60%
After: 30%
The deal as it was before must have been making them a lot of money. Last night there was a period of time where players weren't able to redeem Gift Cards due to the volume of people trying. Leonard got the message below when he tried.

  1. I agree, greed like that at Christmas Time, i was gonna get more cards since there is a limit of 3 per day, and this sale was only for 1 day, but now im not buying anything since they wanna do crap like this and they can lose money now.

  2. When have consumers ever felt good about something that wasn't either a glitch or a nerfed feature? Answer: None. I'm an avid, yet addicted player of MW, but if I had the power to rewind time, you can bet I'd never lay a finger on this corrupted, cash hog of a company.

  3. I redeemed 7 Gamecards today.I had no idea there was a 3 per day limit. You must redeem a lot of Gamecards to get that message to show up. lol @ Jennifer, I think they will have another Gamecard sale before or on Christmas. That was pretty smart to get 700+ reward points for only 35$ lol. Never underestimate the force. :) I'm thinking today's Gamecard redemtion was for Chanukkah. It should have started at sundown though since sundown starts a new day and not zynga time or 12:00 am.. lol HAPPY CHANUKKAH! :*

  4. Yep I also was going to purchase some RP for the holidays. But I have removed them from my holiday wishlist. Just plain greedy. One would think they would want to reward the "few" remaining players, to entice us to stay. Oh well I'll spend my HO HO dollars elsewhere.

  5. I got one done. Guess I'll have to be satisfied as it at least topped off my platinum for the month, and I wouldn't have made it otherwise.

So much for swearing off spending, lol.

First fun I've had in MW for months.

  6. Mind boggling. I redeemed a game card earlier for the 60% discount, was all set to go buy another game card until I read this blog and verified the 'nerfing' of the discount. I'll just hang onto my cash after all. Bah hum bug to them too.

  7. I had a card as a gift from my GodMother for dealing with all our external drama. Thanks for the first article since I redeemed it then and got the 60% extra RP. This blog rocks

  8. Unless I'm missing something, it's still a 60% deal. You get 30% off the purchase of the card and 30% when redeeming. I got mine even after reading all this and don't feel ripped off. I got a $25 card for $17.50 and got 222 RP's (don't remember the exact number but it was close to that) when redeeming, so it was still better than just going with the straight in-game 60% off because of the discount from your promo code when buying the virtual card. Not as good a deal as yours, but still not horrible.

  10. Now it's better to buy Facebook credits first, getting up an 18% bonus, plus the in-game 60% off.

  11. These are the type of things that Zynga will find they cannot do as a public company. How they deal with their financial...including what they offer to their customers....will be watched carefully by Wall street and their investors. All it will take is lawsuits accusing them of fraud and also complaints of their practices.

  12. I've been saying ever since the war loot rollbacks that Zynga's business practices need more scrutiny.
And since then I haven't spent a dime on Mafia Wars, and won't ever again.
I haven't checked to see how Zynga's IPO went, but considering their treatment of their customers, I get the feeling that their stock is going to head downward, and never look back.

  13. ^^^ agree with the above, there will soon be a tombstone like this:
    Dearly Departed (R.I.P.) Zynga
    Birth: July 2007
Death: somewhere in 2012 (probably if they keep on being greedy bastards and treating their customers like disposable cash cows)

  14. I actually tried and did purchase 3 at $50. The RP to $ ratio was a stagger 24 RPs to $1.00. Got the First one no trouble, but the other two I got the message a code will be sent to you in 12-24 hrs. 20 min later, got an email stating that all charges for the last two cards were refunded. They would have made a ton more $$ based on shear volume vs. a higher ticket price. Greed got the better of them and especially the players.
