UPDATE: This was a bug and not something intended by Zynga. Go here for more details and do not contact Customer Support.
----------
A few day ago a banner for the City of Traverse appeared on the Home Page (1). It had a countdown timer of 2 days and it wasn't clear what it was for.
I didn't know what Zynga was counting down but I had about 7 days left on my City of Traverse timer. I decided to put this district on hold because of the new events that required my energy.
The 2 day timer on the Home Page has expired and now we know what it was all about.
To my shock and horror, the City of Traverse which I paid 60 Reward Points to play is no longer available! You can see I didn't finish mastering it. According to the timer on my Job Page, I had 5 more days.
At the time of my purchase, I had a 12 day and at no point was I told it would be cut short. If Zynga would communicate with their players, we would have known what the countdown timer on the Home Page was for. I assumed it meant the you would no longer be able to purchase the City of Traverse not that I had to finish it. This misunderstanding could have been avoided if the timers on the Job Page matched the ones on the banner.
If you got screwed like I did, contact Customer Support right away and ask for a refund as this is a form of fraud. If a refund is not in order than the skill points and loot item you would have gained seems reasonable. I'm really getting fed up with Zynga's tactics and shouldn't need to contact Customer Support. I will update you on how they handle this situation.

This is absolutely disgusting and Zynga need to get their act together!
ReplyDeleteThat's WAY more polite than most emails they'll be getting, I suspect. This is going to be a bigger shitstorm than when they pulled fight club energy refills.
ReplyDeleteSame thing happened here
ReplyDeleteI'm with you... Email already sent. No matter what they do to compensate though, I think I'm about done here.
ReplyDeleteI started playing this game in June of '09 and have played nearly every day for countless hours. I can count the missed days on one hand. I've purchased reward points, donated to charities, and stuck with this game through all of the glitches, errors and changes for long enough.
It's a hard addiction to break, but this is now my primary New Year's Resolution: Quit Mafia Wars and any other Zynga game I'm in and take my cash to Best Buy to get Xbox games. It's a one-time purchase, I can turn the game off when I need to and not "miss" something important or be hindered in my personal progress, they can't change the philosophy of the game once I own it, it's never down form maintenance, and I certainly won't go through the frustration like I feel right now. It's already turned into an all day affair with all the crap that needs to be done each day and now they're stealing our money. Class Action all the way.
I'm not quitting yet, but this is a big step in that direction.

Support request sent; like you, I still had 5+ days to complete according to the timer earlier today. Idiots.

ReplyDeleteI feel the same as you , these guys are winding up the screws on this cash grab , peeps are voting with their feet----->
This sort of hijack of goods paid for but not received amounts to theft .
Social aspects of the game for a regular player has gone backward since the new families concept and changes in Face Book have been implemented .
Do Zynga not get it it ? Hard core fans have reached the limit of what will take .
Happy New Year to you and all your readers .
I can't believe how unthinking you all are (I'm talking about all the people having fits on the fan page). This was obviously a mistake and will be fixed. Sheesh, have a little patience already.
ReplyDeletethis action of zynga which made players leave.. and the next question is "will you buy RPs (pay) for a dying game?
ReplyDeleteI just purchased for 35 RP's a couple of hours ago and the timer said I had 11 days and some hours to complete. I purchased because I had mastered all other districts and didn't want to redo them wasting energy that could be put to better use to get the 500 jobs done in Chicago. When I used up my energy I went to do some fighting to level up only to find Transverse was no longer available when I came back to districts. No wonder long time players are quitting in droves. I am frustrated enough with the overload of spam and events going on at present.I hope they correct this soon and I e-mailed CS a few minutes ago.
ReplyDeleteI paid my RP to get in, but was unable to gain access, and wrote to CS 3 times, and was fobbed off 3x so I'm 60rp down and never even got in.
ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting for them to reply to a problem I posted to them 24 hours ago,and I'm in the "PLATINUM" Club. F* that club,it's a scam! I paid too for Traverse City and am sending complaint on their reply letter that said they would answer me 12 hours ago on my 148th problem! haha
ReplyDeleteOn a side note: I just bought an Alienware M18x with 32gb 1833mhz Ram, Dual 2gb GTX580M Graphics Cards, SSD OS Drive, a 2960XM Quad Core Over Clocked Processor running at 4.6ghz, and I think I can just about run any game I want, if Zynga want my wallet open I need bribing with a buttload of RP for the stuff going on lately. Assassins Creed and Mafia 2 maybe orders of the day.
ReplyDeleteAmen! If I had 1 wish it would be that EVERY Mafia Wars player would unite for 1 week and deactivate their accounts. We could send a very strong message to Zynga that we are fed up with their bullcrap and we're not going to take it anymore. Keep meessing with us and we will leave!!

Yes... hopefully it's just a mistake and will be corrected. But the point is that this exact same kind of "mistake" happens all the freaking time! How many of these does it take to learn from it and NOT have it happen? The answer, unfortunately it seems, is if there are no more players left. With no players there will be no mistakes!
The timer discrepancy has been talked about for since it was relaunched. They corrected the purchase price and blew off the more important issue. And ALL of it could be avoided if they would just give better detail when they launch something. They have a blog, in-game updates and a FAQ on their main site and ALL of them are less informative that this blog in as far as game instruction.

Still pissed... Cheers :)
And I thought it was just me...posted in the bugs forum and sent e-mail to CS asking for a refund of my 35 RPs.
ReplyDeleteSame boat, 10 days left. I contacted support. After 2 years, pending their response, I may actually be done as all of the MW life I had is finally sucked out of me.
ReplyDeleteonly thing i can say is mafia wars should be transferred to another site
ReplyDeletewhy?
since facebook is good for social networking purposes and not for gaming purposes
and i'm suggesting if someone can create a site that all the games are fitted for like mafia wars
Maybe they didn't get to me yet but mine is still there.
ReplyDeletei have been playing this game for over 2 years. i'm still fighting glitches that i had complained about back then. i can't see spending money on a product that is flawed. so i don't. if zynga wakes up and stops screwing people they would get more players spending on their game. until then SCREW zynga
ReplyDeleteThey have put it back. Whew....
ReplyDeleteHave a good year folks.
Shiv
the game has changed - we now have zynga owner by stockholders who want to make money on their stocks
ReplyDeleteTo whoever Anonymous is who keeps writing for us to have patience, we have had patience enough, much more than we would have had with any other gamer or person we deal with. The screwups are pretty constant. I was gifting a little bit ago today and the gift is not going away after you send it????? WTH????? I've about had it with MW! I found that 2 long time players are quitting that I have played this game with for years b/c it isn't any fun anymore but used to be a few years back. Then, you actually had some time to get to know ppl in your mafia between games but not now. I was on an email helping a player and came back to find a nasty comment from a former friend that I wasn't there for him when he needed me. Members of mafias need to realize that mafia bosses can't be everywhere at the same time and while I am helping one player, there are over 4,000 that I can't help right then. I don't want to be a mafia boss any more b/c of all the crap you catch from some players, not all of them just some that think you exist to only help them and to heck with everybody else. Get over yourself ppl who think like that, I've stayed up late into the night to get jobs done that should have been done during the day but weren't b/c I was helping the players. Gonna start cutting back in preparation for quitting MW or going back to being a reg. player who can play when they want to and to eliminate some of the headaches!
