The New Year's Resolution Event has brought a lot of attention to the Ms. PAC Party loot item. Yesterday there was a spam battle on the
Mafia Wars Loot Lady Fan Page and players were campaigning votes for both Ms. PAC and the Shadow King. Those who were in favor of the Shadow King were being strategic (or spiteful) and felt he was the best option because he had the early lead. Since Day 1, I told players the majority of my votes were going to Ms. PAC

After the event was out for a few hours, I was approached by several clan leaders and was asked to write blog posts promoting the Shadow King. Many felt that the position of the Shadow King on the voting board would lead to an guaranteed victory. I explained that wasn't going to happen because Ms. PAC was modeled after my friend Jana Gucci. I suspected the Shadow King might come in first place because of the early lead and his position on the voting page but hoped that spreading the word would put Ms. PAC in the lead
(1). Mafia Wars is a game of many choices and I don't agree with telling anybody how the game should be played. I did my best to remain neutral and only stated who I was going to vote for. I took some criticism some felt I was doing a disservice by not supporting the Shadow King.
Some have asked in comments and emails who Jana Gucci is and why I was voting for Ms. Party PAC. If you know who Jana Gucci is and the history of how the Ms. PAC loot item was created, you will understand why I went against strategy and chose to defy the Shadow King. Jana is a longtime member of the
[MIG] Family, a co-host of the
Informant Podcast and a member of the
Player Advisory Committee. She is well liked by many and is one of the few players in Mafia Wars that doesn't have a group of haters.
Although Zynga rarely listens to the PAC, it is still an active group. When the Retro Gaming Crates were in the development phase, Zynga sent an e-mail to all the female PAC members and stated "We’re looking to feature a female PAC member as “Ms. PAC” in one of our upcoming in-game items".

Interested members were asked to send a photo for consideration. Jana sent the image below to Zynga and it was selected for the featured loot item named Ms. PAC.
When Ms. PAC was first added to the inventory we were disappointed because it looked nothing like Jana.
The original MS. PAC looked more like a love child between Jana and Trader Goh.
Zynga listens to the Informant Podcast and we had a big discussion about how disappointed we were that the item didn't look like Jana. 5 days after the original was added to the inventory, the Ms. PAC image was updated

In November the Retro Gaming Crates were released and many players went crazy buying them in search of Ms. PAC.
When players got one, they often posted the images on the Mafia Wars Loot Lady Fan Page. It was fun for us and I'm sure Zynga made a lot of money.
When the New Year's Resolution Event was in development, Jana received an email from Zynga asking if her image could be used again. She agreed and Ms. PAC Party was created. For her friends, fans and supporters, Ms. PAC Party is the obvious choice when it comes to voting for the New Year's Resolutions Event. Those who didn't think the community voice would be louder than the default and voted for the Shadow King were wrong. Ms. PAC Party now has over 100,000 votes and has a clear lead.
Those who didn't think the community voice would be louder than those who don't get involved outside the game promoted the Shadow King and were wrong. Ms. PAC Party now has over 125,000 votes and the Shadow King is trailing behind by about 25,000 votes.
I don't mean any disrespect to the Shadow King. I haven't met him personally and don't know much about him. I don't even know what he looks like because he is always wearing a hood over his eyes. He likes to point at people and some find this offensive.
Even with his party gear on he isn't very personable.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jana and the other members of our podcast almost a year ago. It should be no surprise to anybody that this site, Team Spockholm, [MIG] and many other families would promote Ms. PAC Party for the New Year's Resolutions Event.

There are a little over 5 days left of the New Year's Resolutions Event. If you want to have as many loot items in your inventory with stats of 122/122 than you should use your votes for Ms. PAC Party as this will be the obvious winner.

ReplyDeleteI had the pleasure of meeting Jana a year ago and she has since become one of my dear friends. Jana is the most selfless person I know, always putting the needs of others before her own. I am honored to be a friend of hers. For those of you that know her, you will agree that she is a special person.

I feel better about your position after reading this post. I thought everyone was trying to mess with Zygna. I doubt Zygna could care less which piece won. The persons be screwed with were the little players that don't have the connections or leaders whispering in their ear to go elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThe Shadow King because of its position on the board would naturally be the leader. So a lot of smaller players that don't have the advantage of a few influential leaders directing them are going to lose out on getting a better piece.
No matter what, somebody is going to get screwed. Either those players that don't have the connections or the ones who followed their leaders. I didn't know why anybody would do that except just to be mean - part of the game I guess.
Originally, I was putting one on each because I wanted all the pieces. Then I started supporting the Shadow King as I thought the campaign was being done to screw the smaller players. In reality, that is exactly what is happening.
At least this explanation makes more sense as you are supporting a friend and I am glad you wrote this post. I still disagree with this campaign because of the effect on the smaller players, but I understand and can appreciate the purpose more clearly.
Thank you Jennifer for your tireless work helping us navigate the more and more confusing game of Mafia Wars. As for all the haters that have given you a hard time about your personal choice of Jana/Ms PAC in the New Years Resolution event - SCREW 'EM!!! You rock, Jana rocks and I already have 4 Ms Party PACs! Bring on the 122/122 stats!

I'm still a noobie to the game (only been playing for 6 months), so I'm not quite fed up with it yet. :) I hope you stick around at least until I get pissed and quit playing! ReplyDeleteSpeaking for myself, our family has been promoting ms pac internally, and many comments on the mwg (mafia war gods page) has been in favour of Ms Pac.
ReplyDeleteThere are several cases that people vote for those in the top right corner, its where we are initally drawn to, so shadow king or what ever would have a natural advantage.
Its only a game, and I know players get caught up in their own sphere, but soon these stats will be superceeded, as the nature of the game demonstrates.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but only people who have no clue how to play this game wouldn't join together to vote for only one so we all get as many of the first place items.
ReplyDeleteHigh level loot is far more important than voting for who you like, an item that will be in your inventory never to be seen again unless you search for it.
Long before I knew of any of this, I started rallying my nearly 5000 member mafia to all choose the same one to ensure we got max value. I chose Ms. PAC simply because she was the easiest to look at I am guessing ;)

ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure meeting Jana Gucci (Ms.PAC) at one of the Mile High Meet & Greet's. I made a new friend and was able to share our 1945 B-17 with her & her son. Besides,how many people do you know that is Mafia Wars character? Let's get Ms.Pac the credit she deserves! :-) Thanks for reading the story behind Ms.PAC, If you ever had the chance to met her you would be voting for her too. BTW she is winning by a long shot too. :-))))

Jana ROCKS!!!!!! Personally, my choice is Ms. PAC because it is Jana. It is more important for me to support a friend then anything else! I am totally excited for her and am thrilled with all the banter about her item!! It is also amazing to see how quickly the numbers roll! She is getting close to 350,000 now!
