Mafia Wars MySpace Review

Share:

On March 29th, Customer Support added a page to help Mafia Wars players on MySpace get all the answers they are looking for. Here is what Zynga had to say about the troublesome MySpace issue (1).
Most selected 1 star when they were asked "Was this answer helpful?".  There isn't a choice for zero stars.
I'm sure may of us have heard about the angry MySpace discussion thread on the Zynga forums by Heels (1). I never really got why they were so angry until today when I looked at a MySpace Mafia Wars account.

Exclamation ZYNGA - WE WANT ANSWERS TODAY!!! Facebookers PLEASE POST HERE

Enough stalling.... enough hiding.... enough lying... enough games....

ALL of this forum, regardless of platform is WATCHING and WAITING to see when, where and how you handle the mess you have made of MySpace and the disrespect and disregard you have shown to those paying & non paying customers.

No more "holidays"... no more sending your forum moderators to the slaughter.

I'd like you to see how many Facebook players are paying attention... I'm asking them to post that fact here.

Mafia Boss.... devs... put down your red-bulls, cancel your power lunches, stash the spam plans, put on your big boy panties and come to the party.

Gary Beach allowed me to try out his MySpace Mafia Wars account and I couldn't believe how outdated it was. I felt like I was back in the 1980's. Here is what the account looks like from the home page.
Do they really have the limited time offer of allowing one to buy a Cue Ball for getting more mafia members? On Facebook, we get much better loot for free via the Crack The Safe feature.
Check out the Travel Bar. There are the only places MySpace players get to travel to. If you really miss Cuba and Moscow then maybe you will want to play. I was told by Tim Humpal that Episodes 7 and 8 of Bangkok haven't been released.
The Marketplace is more like an antique shop. The current Crate for sale is the Explosive Crate. I would click on the question mark to show you what's inside but they don't even have that update.
According to the Mafia Wars Wiki Explosive Crates Page, Facebook had these crates were available on Facebook from April 6-19 of last year.
The Limited Edition Loot is just as archaic and cost more Reward Points than Facebook current items.
You won't find all the fancy and flashy New York properties like you do on Facebook. There is no Chop Shop, Weapons Depot, Armory or Private Zoo. The good news is you can still buy and sell Mega Casinos so  you can still get the Cashing Out achievement.
The New York jobs aren't like Facebook either. Chapter 1 of New York hasn't been updated to the fancy flash style version that we have. The good news is MySpace players can still do the Boss Fight without having to use a script (1).
The fightlist is old school and doesn't have the fancy red buttons that we do.
If you want hitlist kills on MySpace, good luck with that!
Here is the profile page of Tim's MySpace Mafia Wars account. He was a Level 752 before he had enough and started a new account on Facebook and eventually got caught up. Most would suggest that those complaining about the lack of updates to MySpace do the same. What would you do if all of a sudden Zynga decided to put all of their new stuff on Yahoo and not Facebook? Would you give up your current level and start all over? I can really see why the MySpace players are so upset. Hopefully they will have answers soon.

  3. Don't forget the players who have spent $20k+ and up on their MS accounts. FB doesn't hold the market on spenders. Those MS players that have spent mass amounts of money have been left with nothing, not even an honest answer in over a year of begging. Hell we can barely get acknowledged. FB spenders take note of this. FB MW is falling faster then MS MW did at the rate Zynga is going.Just because you spent 10k, 20k, 50k, that doesn't mean shit to Zynga. They can abandon you at anytime and there is not a damn thing you can do about it. FB's numbers are dropping fast and no new players are sticking around long enough to get addicted. I give FB less then a year before you are in the same boat as MS. :(

Do people really spend 20k+? That's an insane amount of money for a single game. I can buy at least 5 top end PCs to play Crysis with that money.

As for "They can abandon you at anytime and there is not a damn thing you can do about it", that's true for every other MMO out there. If Blizzard really wanted to, it could kill off WOW, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. They don't because they gain massive profits from the game. If people really are investing 10k+ into MW, then Zynga has a very strong incentive to keep the game going.

  7. Yes they do. On all platforms, not just MS. It's their money to spend, so why not if they have it. Sad part is up until about 3 days ago, Zynga was still excepting money on MS through the GF page and the platinum program and people were still spending.

  8. Thank you for posting this Jenn. There is no doubt that Myspace as a social network has failed and while it is understandable that Zynga focused on Facebook due to this the reality is they abandoned it long before it was in dire straights. My husband and I started playing in 2008. We spent thousands before Zynga showed any signs of discontinuing support for MS. By the time they began ignoring MS we were invested in it too far to just walk away and start a new account. The fact that they keep promising an answer and then putting it off over and over again is like a slap in the face over and over. Sure we don't have to play Mafia Wars. I think many of you on FB who have legitimate complaints about the FB platform know what it means to play the game because you love the game and the people you play it with despite the fact that it seems like Zynga ignores their userbase. Imagine that same Zynga attitude and add the fact that you know that Zynga doesn't care what anyone on your platform thinks. Thanks again for posting this!

  9. I would also mention that not only is the version of Mafia Wars on MS like a flash back to 2009 it also has gone without any maintenance and repairs for well over a year. Gifting has been broken for over 6 months now for everyone. Not once did Zynga respond to any post on the forum about gifting no longer working. Could you imagine if no one on FB could gift? A large percentage of accounts can only do jobs, bank money and heal. Everything else results in a constant revolver and the action never goes through. Their accounts have been like this for over a year now. Most of them have support tickets dating back to then that are ignored and not responded to. This despite the fact that Zynga has a fix for this. As for trying to participate in a clan war... ughhh the game locks up when two players are fighting each other and it takes several minutes for it to become playable again. Beyond all the issues though it has been Zyngas failure to communicate with MS that disappoints me the most. Time will tell if they actually do give an answers or solutions to the situation.

  10. Take everything said above and realize they pulled all Customer Support in Aug '09, before they broke everything, and you might get a idea of our frustration. All we have ever gotten from Zynga was the back of their hand. Zynga intentionally ruined the MySpace game and they did it for Facebook. They ruined the game when it was the most popular game on MySpace. This was done to ruin MySpace, as MySpace was largely gaming accounts. They knew what they were doing. So did the MySpace executives, the ones Zynga hired after they tanked MySpace. Who in their right mind would hire executives that are wholly responsible for destroying a thriving and viable Social Network? Someone who was in collusion with them. That's who...

Just remember as was Tagged, so is MySpace, so will be Facebook...

I'm sorry to hear about your situation; it really is tragic. Humans have difficulty dealing with sunk costs, but sometimes we don't have other options. Until it die dies, you can try for the 999T achievement? Since you've had a year, you probably already have it... I'm not sure what else I can say.

    @paranoid
Why in the world would Zynga intentionally ruin Myspace? They have nothing to gain from such an action. They're clearly negligent, but there's no evidence they intentionally broke everything.

  12. Just created new account on fb for playing mafia wars only (I separate my personal and games account on fb to avoid spamming my friends feed because only few of them play mw).

The biggest problem for new FB MW player is that you can't invite and adding players like you used to be on 2009/early 2010.

Recently I have my account temporary banned for 2 days by facebook because I invite people through email list (102 emails which I got it on mass add MW group).

After the ban, I add about 10 MW people i met on group and got banned again for few days and I can't even add my own friends! I can't increase my mafia and when the energies running out i have nothing more to do, can't help on job, can't help on war, etc because i have no friends.

    =========================

I spend most of my time on twitter rather than facebook and recently want to play MW again.
And I think I will abandon facebook and invite all my friends to twitter now.

  13. we are all consumer sheep. things get made by big business, to lure people to buy stuff (ads everywhere saying "you need THIS"), then when they make thier money, the damn thing breaks just like everything else, and then steer you to neww "stuff". I hate FB, and I know MS is going down, I'll be there till it does 'cause my family is there.
I did try FB, got a virus the same day, and cancelled it. I like MW, but I won't go giving my info out to new websites so they can make a killing off my personal info or destroy my computer (to make me buy a new one?).
I feel really bad for those that spent money - but if they did so within the 3 days before they were warned in writing about the change, they can cancel the transaction (consumer laws say they can). I believe they would have received an email from Zynga - and if Zynga accepted money after that email was sent (I'm supposing the person didn't actually read it in time), it should have been refunded in any event.
I'm not falling for this crap. And I'n not joining FB or MW dot com, either. This reminds me of the crap they did with Windows Live Spaces (trying to make everyone switch to wordpress).
Well, it was fun for the past 10 years. Not to mention the crap going on with the cable companies - can we ever get a break with those stupid commercials and ads? Tired of big business ripping us off and making us slaves. Our government sucks, to boot, making us pay 3-4 times for our house and then messing sh*t up so they can take it away. Screw it. If MySpace goes down, I'm done with social (advertisement) networks.

  14. ZYNGA IS A VERY DISHONEST COMPANY. I played Mafia Wars on myspace from the day it came out. I bought over 30,000 in Godfather points, which was then changed to Marketplace points over several years it was on Myspace. Zynga just decides to quit Myspace Mafia Wars. My account got hacked just before it was cancelled. Strange? Zynga refused to let me back into myspace account, they wanted a Picture of me. Well the hacker deleted my picture, so I couldn't prove it was my account. However Zynga had my email and all the evidence they needed buying Godfather points over the years, but refuse to accept it was my account. I think ZYNGA IS THE ONE WHO HACKED MY ACCOUNT. After spending the money I spent, you tell me that Zynga couldn't verify who I was, I wasn't born yesterday. ZYNGA is a very dishonest company. I would NEVER PLAY ANOTHR ZYNGA GAME AGAIN.
