Gifting Spirit: 4 Step Easy Guide

Share:

The Gifting Spirit Event is causing confusion and there are several reasons why. The biggest cause of confusion is the fact that the items you gather from jobs, fights and robs are NOT added to your inventory. Players see them drop and then see them on the home page and think there is something wrong when they check their inventory. Compounding the issue is the fact that they disappear once they are gifted. Players need to think of them as 2 different sets of items. The ones you can give away and the ones you get to keep. The next major roadblock to getting confused over this event is that items do NOT drop in New York. Most of us rob in New York so you need to switch it up. The main injustice of this event is that the in-game instructions leave out a pretty important detail. This little bit can be found in the FAQ and it has to do with how you send your gifts. In order to master the event 10 times you need to be exact in the number of items you gift at a time. More details and a 3 step guide to mastering this event can be found below.

These Are Not Those

There is much confusion over the fact that items appearing on the home page are not the same as the items in your inventory. Although they look the same they are totally different. The items on the home page are NOT added to the inventory and the items in your inventory are NOT available to be gifted. Think of them as 2 separate groups of items. Adding to the confusion,  VIP Players and non-VIP players have 2 different groups of loot. The 2nd item on the home page is different for VIP and Non-VIP players.

Non-VIP Members Can Get VIP Loot

My inbox is full of players letting me know they aren’t VIP players but got a VIP loot item from their ZMC. This is intended and nobody is getting away with something they shouldn’t be. If you accept gifts randomly the distribution of the 2 unique items lower due to the fact that there are less players sending out these gifts. Any player can get any of these items from their ZMC. Looking at the image above you can see that the drop rate of the 2 unique items is about half of what the others are.

Step 1: Collect Items
Fine Print Clause: None of these items drop in New York

The drop rate of these items isn’t that bad as long as you aren’t in New York. Find them by doing jobs, robs and fighting (includes traditional fighting as well as Shootout and Mob Fury Arenas). The LockPick Bonus for jobs counts and you can get double the items but they will stop dropping after you get 30. The exception is if  it's active when you get the 30th item. In this case you can get 31 items. You can only get 100 items total so it’s not too hard to keep track of. use the Help Mark on the home page banner to monitor progress.

Step 2: Gift Items
Fine Print Clause: Gift the Exact Number Needed for Mastery

The next step is  to gift the items you collected. You can gift them to anybody on your friends list. To get to the Gift Page for each item, hover your mouse over the item on the home page and click on it.

You can only gift the number of items that you own and it’s very important to keep track. For each gift that you send, you will get 1 point towards mastery. The number of items required for mastery is a little odd so it’s important to always monitor what you are doing. If you are on the Gold Level and you gift more items than are needed to reach Ruby mastery than those items will not roll over into the next bronze level. You need to achieve mastery first and then gift the remaining gifts. It takes a total of 70 items to master the event and you can get 100 per day so each day will require a different number to be sent. It’s ok to go from Bronze to Gold but you need to be careful when going from Gold to Ruby. To see how many items you have gifted, hover your mouse over the progress bar. In the example below, I have gifted 50 items so only 20 are required to reach Ruby mastery.

To do this right, I need to gift exactly 20 items and wait for the popup. I started with 25 Chopper Queens and selected 20 players. Once I sent the gifts, I got a ruby mastery popup.

After this, the event was reset and I could send the remaining items. If I had send all of my Chopper Queens or the 25 Sushi Chefs before waiting for the Ruby Mastery popup they would NOT have counted towards progress. By keeping track of things I was able to progress to the Gold Level of the 2nd event on the first day. The next day 40 items were needed to Ruby Master the event. Each day the number will be different so you have to count and keep track of the gifts you send. If you make a mistake than you won’t be able to master the event 10 times. It’s only loot so if you messed up the first day, shake it off and start over.

It was wrong of Zynga to omit this detail from the in-game instructions. They make it perfectly clear in the FAQ but there isn’t even a link to the FAQ in the instructions (at the time of this post). Update: The instructions were updated, go here for more details.

The Gift Blaster by Team Spockholm has been updated for this event and can be found on the Back Up Server. If using between Gold and Ruby mastery, use caution and don’t send out too many gifts. It may be better to do the last level manually to avoid mistakes.

Step 3: Accept Gifts

The 3rd step in this event is optional as it doesn’t affect mastery at all. You can accept 50 gifts from your mafia per day. If the loot helps you than it’s worth the effort. You can get up to 350 items for the duration of the event. For easy collecting, use the Gift Collector by Team Spockholm. A new ‘Giftable Loot’ icon has been added to the ZMC so if you don’t use scripts and want to filter these gifts just click on it. If a player returns a gift that you sent, you will get Mexico items (to include property parts), boosts and Arena Power Ups. Go here for more details about the various types of gifts.

  1. I have only been robbing in NYC and I got my 25 from robbing both days so saying they're not dropping there isn't true :)

    1. Is it possible your script moved destinations? Maybe there is a glitch or maybe they are only referring to jobs. In the instructions it just says they don't drop from NY. Thanks.

    2. No I'm sorry Jen I only robbed one board in Brazil due to the daily fix but other than that I've been in NYC all day :)
I don't see anywhere in my game its not supposed to drop there so I guess I'm just the lucky one.

  3. Why wouldn't they just make the drops something else, such as a gift box. Then it would be clear what needs to be gifted and what is in your inventory. Why am I not in charge ? jk

  5. Thanx Zynga for making this a full time job to read a damn FAQ to figure out that you have to gift EXACTLY at Gold level or lose out on the extra items....which should have simply rolled over to the next level. Some of us have a life outside of this stupid game and yet you make it so that this is simply a full time job. No wonder people are leaving the game. It just becomes more and more difficult every day and then this kind of shady crap is put in the game and hidden in a FAQ. Seriously? I wonder who thinks of these things just to piss off the players?

At least add an extra day so those who didn't read that part of the FAQ can get the 10 items.

    1. I just wonder how you cope with IRL everyday life, if reading and understanding a FAQ thats at its best, half a computer screen in height is hard.
Im not native english speaking, not even born in an english speaking country and it took me like a minute, lets say two to read and understand it, I read some parts more then once, so its not that hard to accomplish at all.

  6. I don't understand why anyone is complaining about this event - you get free loot for just sending/accepting gifts which you should be doing anyway. Be thankful it isn't another one of those "Spending RP is the only way to master it" events

    1. It's on the back up server. Go to the configuration page, check the back up server box and then launch the Gift Blaster. You will see them at the top.
