Killer Instinct 4: Kill Shots, Crests & Leaderboards

Share:

We are still getting a lot of questions regarding the Killer Instinct Event. It was because of these questions in the first place that we even noticed things have been drastically changed [1]. One thing Zynga omitted from the in game instructions are the rules for Kill Shots. Since Kill Shots are converted into Crests, it would be helpful for players to know the rules for each type. I summed that up in the chart below. In Seasons 1-3 of the Killer Instinct Event there were 7 different types of Kill Shots and in this one there are only 6. They just combined 2 of them and are pretty much the same thing. The home page banner and instructions page are also more interactive. A summary of what information can be gained is also shown below.

Kill Shots  Description Crests
2 Kill Shots 2 Kill Shots in a Shootout or Mob Fury Arena 1
Kill-Joy A Kill Shot against the Leader 1
First Blood First Kill Shot in an Arena 1
Over-Kill in Shootout Kill Shot against all opponents in a Shootout Arena* 3
Over-Kill in Mob Fury Kill Shot against all opponents in a Mob Fury Arena* 2
Kamikaze Kill Kill Shot using a Kamikaze Power-Up 5
*Is only rewarded one time per Arena
The following information can be found on the home page banner and the instructions. The instructions are opened up by clicking the help mark on the banner. (Click image to enlarge)

The leaderboard is found in the Arena so you have to travel there to see it. The Top 10 players are always listed and the rest are players that have about the same score as you do. Click on ‘Crests’ and then use the scroll bar to navigate. Players doing the bare minimum should be in the top 6,000-7,000 ish.
leaderboardIt’s interesting to look at accounts that have gotten 0 Crests. Ties are random so we can’t really get a feel for the active player metrics from this.

Comparing the numbers on the leaderboard to the last season, right away you notice a huge difference. When the 7 days are over we will see way less Crests from the leaders.  Zynga has finally thought of a way to eliminate the 24/7 running script users from these competitive events. If you want to be in the top, it will now take some time to sit down with your Arenas.

The best way to get Crests is to use as many Kamikaze/Stamina Refill combos as you can in 90 seconds. At one point we were able to craft these with Power Cards so there are still a lot of players out there who have tons of them. This event should give reason for them to be used. For strategies on how to get the maximum number of Crests, go here. Those willing to put in the time and resources will do well.

One of our admins, Edward Larson, tested this out and in one Arena he earned 93 Crests! He is now #3 on the Leaderboard so you can see this is an effective, although expensive, strategy. we don't recommend it since the reward is only one loot item and the leaderboard prizes probably won't equal what you would spend. We are just showing how the ones who are there have done the what looks impossible. It makes sense that Zynga would reward the players who spend money as they are who keep the game alive. Most of us will be happy to get the mastery item and let the leaders battle it out.

  1. My arena leaderboard cuts off the little arrows for scrolling. I can still look at the list but I am not sure why mine does that.

  2. Using kamikazes is a great idea but I use spartacus exclusively and it mostly ignores it when I click to use my kamis. I even try doing it with 40 seconds or more left and it still won't respond. It is very frustrating.

  3. Spartacus has not been reliable for a few months. (wasting stamina, not using boosts/kamikazes) It's better than manual play but not reliable.
(go to a 500 arena to use all stamina but get low score -or- go to a 100 arena to get better score/respect and waste stamina when boosts don't kick in)
