Battle Mexicana: Mexico Boss Fights

UPDATE: For more strategies and further elaboration on finding your combos, go here.

So far the only unique aspect of Mexico is the Boss Fights. We haven’t see designated boss fights in a destination since Italy. Brazil had them in the Missions but they weren’t part of the progress pathway. Unlike the boss fights that appeared in the tiers, regions or districts of the earlier destinations the Mexico Boss Fights aren’t a permanent fixture. They randomly drop while do jobs in the same manner as the Bonus Jobs of London and the Bonus District of South Africa. The structure of these boss fights is pretty identical to the Family Boss, the Raven, Secret District Bosses and the special event bosses of South Africa with a few exceptions. There really shouldn’t be a learning curve as this is something redundant to Mafia Wars. The first indication that the bosses exist are on the welcome popup located on the map and the tutorials also on the map and on the first boss when he drops. There is also a inactive/active tracker on the top right of the job page which contains a help mark.

The help mark opens up a 3 part guide on how to fight the bosses. mex6 mex7 mex8
The instructions make these boss fights seem more complicated than they really are. If you think of them as the same old boss fights we’ve been doing for years which randomly show up (like the Raven) then you’ve got them 99% figured out. Simply do a job and one will show up. There is 1 boss per district and we need to fight them 15 times each to earn mastery. Since only 3 districts were unlocked, there are only 3 new bosses to worry about fighting. Each boss fight also has a unique name. In District 1 is ruled by Vidal Salazar in the Tijuana Tussle, District 2 is Armando Almonte in the Border Brawl and District 3 is Igon Reyes in the Desperado’s Denmexicanboss1 mexicanboss2mexicanboss3 There are 15 rounds of Boss Fights for each boss for a total of 45 until future districts are released. Each has variable health meters, damage per attack gradients, timers, ratios, buy offs and rewards. Rounds 1,3,4,6 and 7for Vidal Salazar are shown below. They get progressive harder with each round but the timer gets longer. mexicanboss1 tt3 tt4 tt6
Zynga loves to make a production over anything new in the game and it should be no surprise that these boss fights turn regular jobbing into a nightmare. Game play is always sacrificed for execution. The dog and pony show begins when a Boss Fight is triggered. Your entire screen will shadow and you are told “Boss Active”. This would be fine but you have to wait about 1 second for the game to return.
bfshow1
Once the game returns, the Boss Fight is present under the job that triggered it and the job requirements and payout are changed for the worse. If you don’t defeat the boss the increased energy and currency requirements and the decreased experience payouts will remain. You can ignore these fights but it would be best to play in a different district until the timers run out.

If you want to get rid of a boss you have 3 options. You can fight them with stamina, you can fight them with ammo items or you can buy them off with reward points. bossdistrict12
If you choose the stamina path and want to get it over with faster, use the Power Attack option located below the attack button. This will increase the amount of stamina per hit and the damage done by 5.
powerattack
The amount of damage you do with each click is based off your attack score and the amount of damage the boss does to you is based off your defense. It won’t be the same for all players.
damage
The ammo items work the same as they do in all other boss fights. Farm the items by doing in game actions and find the combos to do more damage. Ammo items always cause confusion and this time is no different. You can only have 50 in the queue at any time unless you buy them with reward points, you can only earn 30 of each item per day for free so balancing them is part of the strategy. If you haven’t reached your daily limit but your queue is full, you will need to use some of them to get more. You also need to be in Mexico to earn them (with the exception of the Arena).
ammo
Desperados drop while doing jobs and the Lockpick bonus applies. Mexicali Machetes drop when you get an ice and do not drop during the fight. Wrenched Aparts drop in Robbing but until there is a Robbing Board in Mexico you can only get them as free gifts. They didn't drop by target robbing. Piped Powers drop in the Arena.
jobs ammo1 rob1 rob2 arena The green combos is given with each boss fight. Unlike the damage with stamina, the damage with ammo and combos is a flat rate rage and is the same for all players.
combos
Nobody is really sure what the deal is with the yellow and red combos. Players have found them but as you can see from the screen shot that Malachi Osibogun Tayo sent me they aren’t always reproducible. I suspect that maybe they will appear in the later rounds. It’s hard to guess when it comes to Zynga.

The Boss Fighter II by Team Spockholm will work for all the bosses. When you load it, select the district in Mexico in which a boss is active. Then select the boss you wish to fight, click the Power Attack box if you wish to use and click start.
bf bf2 The fight will be over before you know it if you use the Power Attack option. It was nice of Zynga to add that or these would be a much greater pain in the ass. bf3
The ratio on the Boss Fighter II is not always accurate and players have reported ratios between 2.09-2.23. The ratios vary depending on the round. The higher the round the better they get.

When you defeat a boss you get rewards to include skill points, currency, consumables and boosts so it is worth the hassle.
rewards5rewards7 d2bossrewards3boss2rewards4 boss3rewards4 d3round52 One of the common rewards to all the bosses is what Zynga is calling Diablo Mode. I bet they wish this game was as popular as Diablo but that’s not what this is about. The 2nd notification which stops play appears once the boss is defeated. You have to wait it out…diablo1Diablo Mode does the opposite of what happens when the boss fight is triggered. The requirements decrease and the payouts increase. diablo2
The mastery per click also increase by 50% and you can have some fun if you activate your Lockpick Bonus and use 2X Mastery Boosts. Emerald VIP subscribers also get additional mastery. In the example below the 8th job, “retrieve All That Was Yours And More” normally pays out 8% mastery per click. With my Lockpick Bonus activated, a 2X Mastery Boosts and the extra 1% mastery from the VIP Membership Program I was able to get 31% mastery in 1 click! The entire job was finished in 4 clicks. diablo3
Diablo Mode only lasts for 15 minutes or for 25 jobs so you should choose which jobs you do wisely. Once it’s over you get another notification that makes you wait and displays the number of Pesos and the amount of Experience you earned. Until you get used to these it appears as if something is wrong and a refresh is in order (sometime it is). I wish they would come up with a better system.
diablo4
If you don’t defeat the boss before the timer runs out then you have to wait for them to return in order to try again.
timer You can have multiple bosses running at the same time if you do jobs in more than 1 district. When they are active the bosses appear on the map.
bossmap1 bossmap2
Once you defeat a boss 15 times, you get a mastery item and the feature will not return again.

Until you own the item it will say that ‘Your weakest Henchmen is stronger than this item.” which isn’t true for almost all of us.

Thanks to Team Spockholm, Shu Yun Zheng and Jo Gilliam for their input on this post. Please feel free to comment and anything else that you have found with your boss fights. There is still much to be learned about the combos.

  1. My feature seems to activate when I'm at risk of leveling. The boss window conveniently covers all stats relating to eps to level, remaining stam and remaining energy requiring a second open window. Bad enough that eps and e/s usage doesn't update real time in Mexico, requiring constant page refreshes~~~now they create a feature that wipes out carefully managed e/s due to unintended leveling.

  2. Snap and I always seem to lose loads of money from fights whilst the boss is either active or diablo is active or while I am waiting for it to de-activate and let me back onto the page. Even with a second window open I still lose most or all of my money, whats most annoying is while its on diablo mode I am getting more money, or should I say other people are getting more money.

  3. I've completed the first boss and even on Level 15 did not see the red combo.

  4. You can still do jobs in other Mexican districts, whilst a boss is active, but it is also possible to have another boss become active in that district at same time.

  5. for some reason i can't use the combo - not that i have much use for the low damage, the power attacks are best for me...

  6. It appears that the orange and red combo's will not open unless you pay with rp to unlock them.

  10. Does anyone know if the boss appears more than 3 times per level (bronze, silver, gold, ruby). I know he must because that would only add up to 12 rounds... not 15. But I can't seem to trigger him more than 3 times on bronze or silver. could just be me though.

    1. Same here : it seems I can't go over round 3/15 at bronze level and round 6/15 at silver level. Did anyone notice another behaviour ?

  11. Before beginning the boss fight you should bank all of your Pesos or you will probably lose some / all of them during the boss fight because your health level will be above 20 most of the time and you are vulnerable to being attacked.

  12. Is there a Combo Breaker Sequence available yet like the one for the Lords of Lesotho boss fights?

  13. I have had 2 bosses active in different districts at the same time. Thankfully I have enough stamina to deal with the issue. IMO I am holding off on Mexico until Zynga decides to do special missions for the new area. I ran through S. Africa and had a heck of a time completing special missions. I just don't see the need to rush through the game anymore.

  14. It seems from my experience that the boss only appears three times in each level. Is that the case?

    1. yes 3 in bronze , 3 in silver , 3 in gold , and last 6 in ruby

    2. I have completed ruby on all 3 levels but the bosses I have had pop up vary, first has 4 down and 11 to go, second has 7 down with 8 to go and third has 8 down with 7 to go.
If there are only 6 in ruby then I am stuffed, and if so why is that they are not dropping enough. Maybe no one should complete a level until the have killed the sufficient amount of bosses first just in case.

  15. Mexico district? Man when did that happen. I guess I must not care that much any more. LOL

    1. lol, you aren't alone. I took me 4 days to get this post out and the walkthroughs for each district were delayed too. The number of views is way down from what the other destinations had as well. I think we are all getting over caring as much about Mafia Wars!

  16. looks like 3 boss max per tier (makes sense cause you get laughed at on ruby later)
guess its spock "change district" to overlay boss "?" to see numbers of consumables

  17. anybody knows any cooldown period between bosses appearances?

  18. I completed the Ruby level of the Tijuana District, but the Boss only showed up 14 times. I'm wondering if he will show up again if I re-do some of the completed jobs.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, he will show up again. It took about 12-15 repeats on the first job before he popped. So we will have to waste a little time if we want to acquire him as a henchman.

    2. I suppose if everything else is done and you have nothing else to do, the henchman are quite good to get!!

  19. I am having ZERO Mexicali Machetes dropping during fights. This sucks as Zynga has stopped customer support, and you can't report it. No wonder Zynga is hemorrhaging money.

    ReplyDelete

    1. i'm having the same prob. been almost a week of fighting and not a single machete has dropped. approx 200 + ices a day and not a single one. not impressed

  20. they only show up after you register a ice or a kill

    ReplyDelete
  21. If Zynga wasn't losing money they would still have customer support. This is just getting tedious. It's too much like work. I do like Ninja Kingdom though LOL. I am going to finish Mexico and they can keep the henchmen. Who needs loot when you got skills!!!
