Earlier this month the earth stood still for some players when passive experience was removed without notice [1]. Witch hunts, boycotts and a whole lot of bitching ensued. About 5 days later passive experience returned and many felt their protests had paid off [1]. Although passive experience returned, it isn’t the same as it used to be. Based on testing and reports from many players, it appears there is a cap of 25,000 experience per 5 minute interval regardless of how many accounts are attacking you. If you can level up within 5 minutes or need less than 25,000 additional experience points to do so, you won’t even notice. There doesn't seem to be consistency but most have reported the findings above. The end game of Mafia Wars is all about the ratio needed to get to the next level [1]. If the noted limit is something intended by Zynga then players who relied on more than 25,000 passive experience to level will need to start bringing their ratios down to accommodate the cap. Until something official is posted, we have no way to know if this is a bug, experiment or a slow roll of a permanent change. You can see below, players who use kamis can still gain massive amounts of experience. For those crying the loudest, you should be very grateful that the experience values listed below aren't zero. For those who wonder when the level cap will increase, I predict the widespread use of kamis will delay that from happening anytime soon [1].

DeleteThere are some accounts that can still level without cap on passive experience so this is the actual bullshit of the change... even at the time when passive experience stopped coming there were a lot of players that could level without a problem, you posted yourself the exact servers that were blocked from receiving passive experience, OTHERS NOT... I wouldn't have a problem if the situation would be the same for all players... BUT IT'S NOT.... after 4 years and a lot of playing hours finally is time to quit...

ReplyDeleteI dont care that people use kami's, I dont, but a lot of my clan do. And the ones that do are usually VIP members. Seems as though Zynga have compromised and 25k is generous in my book. I'd be leveling every 10 minutes with that! Everyone seems to want to be the bigger fish, but there's always a bigger fish and thats Zynga. Jen is just a reporter in the war, so don't shoot the messenger. :)

ReplyDeleteCap should be 10K/hr. That will put a stop to serial leveling. If you need more then that then you built your account wrong, its not all about atk/def.. if you built your account properly you could serial level without the need of a kami. Hell, I have 4 accounts that are serial leveling without a kami, and if I can do it, anyone can.

DeleteThis is not across the board only specific accounts have been hit with this cap. Something I believe people have gone whinging to Zynga and given a list of names of accounts/families who use widespread Kami's. Single accounts that Kami themselves are not effected and are leveling at the same hectic rate. So once again it is an uneven playing field giving some people an advantage over others. Is it any wonder people are stopping VIP by the hundreds daily. Soon it will be time for Zynga to pull the plug. Truthfully the sooner the better.

That tactic might have some instant gratification for those who seem to be upset but all it will do in the long run is make the one being attacked stronger and stronger and eventually unbeatable for many. That could then pose a problem for the main account of the mini and especially if mini attacks become a problem and zynga does something to mess with that too. I'd just spend all my time in the arena, continuing to heal so I don't miss any hits. I'm already serial leveling on stamina and energy and I buy a&d strength so I would be no worse for wear as I enjoy the arena. I'd just be leveling even faster then and not even bothered by the attacks.

DeleteIn my opinion people who use kami accounts to level are doing more harm than good to their accounts...Yeah you level faster and get 5 skill points per level and one reward point for every even level, but by jumping levels so fast you drastically increase the experience needed to level up and weaken your personal skills to level ratio...also you miss out on all the skill points you can build in NY if you gained a 100 levels in one day versus a week( hypothetical numbers and time frame of course), but its all in how you want to play the game....Thanks for all your hard work Jen and bringing the information to the masses..

ReplyDeleteand i guess zynga has half a brain, cuz if they had killed kamis 100% then the game would quickly die. entire kami clans would suddenly be worthless and all the kamis that players use, worthless. The DAU would shrink to maybe 20,000 and he big spenders who kami would quit, and the big spenders who dont kami would grow bored and find little point in spending. Zynga messed this up from the beginning by allowing the loophole then not closing it early on.

What all of you are forgetting was this game has been around for nearly 5-years, and for 5-years the rules have been the same. If you get hit and win you get XP, simple. Given this, I and many thousands of others took advantage of this. My wife and son both have FB accounts and were happy for these to be built to self level and hit me to give me XP. I have NOT breached zynga's TOS and have played by the rules of the game.
Personally I have spent in excess of $200 a month, which in my book was good value for money as it provided me with enjoyment and a hobby (still a cheap one in my book). That amounts to over $10,000 I have spent (when you factor in VIP and gamecards). My account is near level 20,000 and has been built within the rules, and has had significant money spent on it. Now, it takes circa 235,000XP to level, I get it down to 140,000 with my energy/stamina, and with my son/wife hitting I could level every 10-15mins. Now, with the cap I use all my energy and stamina in 5-8 mins and then have to sit around for 30 mins waiting to level. I am not "crying" nor am I asking for something, what I am asking is that after 5-years it is reasonable to assume that the rules of the game are set. I cannot imagine any other game where 90% of the way through it they change the rules and leave some players high and dry. Zynga has actually forced me to break the TOS as now I have no option but to run scripts, as no one in their right mind will stare at a screen for 30 mins waiting on it to change. Im sorry, but this "cap" is not right, or fair, and the fact that not all players are affected is damn wrong. Before this fiasco a member of my mafia was 1,300 levels ahead of me. He kami's exactly the same as me and is unaffected by the cap. He is now over 5,000 levels ahead of me. I dont agree a rule change this long into a game is fair or right, and its certainly not right that the same rules dont apply to everyone. As has been said many times, virtually all players who kami are VIP, and many spend a fair bit on RP. Given the number of the player base who play in this manner, if this cap is permanent they will certainly stop VIP and buying RP and most probably quit the game, hundreds have already. This many players doing this so late in the game will result in the imminent closure of MW. So you may not kami, you may not agree with it, but if you want to continue to play MW you should oppose the cap as vehemently as those affected because if it sticks, the games over.
It is quite possible that the cap was put in because there are actually people like yourself who followed TOS and who earned their passive experience the right way. Otherwise, Zynga would be within their rights to remove passive experience all together

I for one have a single Kami account and I can and do level 100+ times a day and have never been effected by the kap. My main account level 1s 18K + and my Kami is level 11K +. So It goes to show not everyone is effected by Zynga and their stupidity. Let everyone level as often as they want they will soon reach the 71K limit and then they have to start over again. They will rarely catch up with the big spenders.

I thought, obviously incorrectly, that this far into the game the rules were set. while you can certainly say to me "Sack up folks" and thats your right, if they can ruin my game without even a message or warning what will the next change be? Will it wreck your game? and what will you do when all those players affected leave. You will either be playing MW with yourself and automated fightlist or they will close it.
So, as I said above, while the cap doesnt affect you directly you would either need to be a very naive person or someone who doesnt really understand the game to think that this situation will not negatively affect every single mafia wars player.
You seem like a nice guy which makes me feel bad that all of your money spent on this game will be lost when it folds. It's not a matter of if but when at this point and we all know it. I would hope people like you would stop spending your money on this game and find a hobby that you could get a decent return on your investment. This game is over..

my account only gets 25k experience every 10 minutes so i can now only level 2 times an hour if i am lucky. Anyone who has played this game for a long time has to have passive xp to level (unless you dont fight) as in order to play in the big clans and battles you had to add to attack and defense or get your ass handed to you. Here is the thing a lot of people above this post are saying if you built your account right you wouldnt need a kami.....well if i didnt need a kami i would probably only be level 5k to 7k (in all honesty i didnt use a kami until about 6 months ago but have to anymore if i am too level as i have a 100k gap after stamina and energy)after 3 years and would be getting slaughtered by everyone else. If i want to level i can just run my kami as he can level none stop 24/7 but that is not why i play this game. Or i could spend 3 hours and start a new account and run it 24/7. I play to fight and win in Battles, Arena and on the Fight List. My VIP will be getting cancelled and so will the VIP for my Kamis....yes a lot of us spend money on our Kami accounts one of my friends is cancelling 7 VIP memberships because of this. In my opinion Zynga has really screwed up because this also affects any money that players will spend on anything for the future as Zynga has proven that they can destroy your game after all this time so why spend anymore as you cant trust what will be stopped next.

DeleteBullshit. everybody can still level up using Kamis, just not as quick, I have gone from 40 levels a day to 20, but at least so has most other kami users, so to me the game is exactly the same only we are not reaching the level cap as quick and that still keeps the game going longer.

If you're not getting your exp just make a new account like some of your kami using colleagues have recommended to those of us who don't use kamis. Simple right? My suggestion to you is just as crazy as those who are saying start kamis because anyone can do it for free. It's no fun having that unfair disadvantage like us non-kami users is it? Too bad so sad. Maybe this will give us all some time to catch up and make it a level playing field again.

ReplyDeleteSince people can't seem to stop complaining that their ability to gain an unfair advantage has been capped, maybe the simple solution would be for Zynga to roll them all back to the level they should be based on where their energy and stamina could have got them. That would solve their problem of being stuck, because they'd be at a more reasonable amount of exp needed to level.
ReplyDeleteI think people need to be really careful and think twice before making threats to other players about kami revolts and the like, just because they didn't plan their own strategies better and can no longer milk the game. People are getting fed up with being threatened by those who have no one but themselves to blame for this whole mess. Be grateful for the extra strength you got and do one of two things 1. build your stamina to remain competitive or 2. quit the game like you keep threatening to do. Stop being playground bullies and grow up. This could have been a hell of a lot worse for you if Zynga did decide to roll you back because then you'd have to deal with all those people you've pissed off.
Jen, I for one have no Kami account and don't think I have ever been attacked by one of them but in my opinion I for one am glad that you do cover so many areas of the game in your blog and take the time to pretty much detail the glitches so that we do know what the hell is going on in the game. I am sure that zynga probably does read them also and can say this about it, they are a business in the business of making money but do allow us to play for free sure it may take me longer to get there and I may miss out on some of the perks that those that are spending money get but I still enjoy the game and have fun doing so and once the fun stops so will I but until that day keep on doing your thing and making your posts about the game and thank you for doing so.....

I dont care im using Kamis. The way the game is set up you have to. you need 12.5xp more each level. If you go all 5 points energy or stam you can only get there a few ways 1) do the highest ratio jobs 2) Rob in NY. Zynga has made it so if you want to self level you cant put any into att or def. It should not be that hard to level so some could choose to be strong fighters without sacrificing the leveling. When the company running it gets greedy the users do to.

ReplyDeleteThis could have the unintended consequence of turning kami accounts into attack drones to perpetually keep opponents pinned. It didn't make sense to use kamis to attack opponents, because you'd be giving them too many XP. Now that you'll only give them 25K XP, kamis will become valuable attack tools. Passive XP was to discourage kami attacks on opponents. Kami attacks on opponents now become viable.
