CityVille 2 Shutting Down

Share:

It seems like yesterday that most of us were cheating in CityVille2 for the cross game promotion with Mafia Wars [1]. It was actually a little less than 3 months ago. The game must not have been very popular because Zynga is shutting it down. CityVille2 is no longer open for new players and will shut down on March 7, 2013. There is no mention of compensation packages but if you can get into the game, they ask for your E-mail ID. I played CityVille2 but blocked it and I did not get this opportunity. Thanks to Thomas Weingarten for the screen shot below.

New players attempting to play CityVille2 get the following notification when arriving to the game.
Thank you for your interest in Zynga’s CityVille 2. Unfortunately, CityVille 2 is now closed to new players. CityVille 2 will shut down on March 7, 2013 to make way for future game offerings from Zynga. We invite you to check out some of our other Zynga games such as FarmVille 2, ChefVille, and Bubble Safari on Facebook.
Thank you for playing Zynga games.
Sincerely,

The CityVille 2 team

  2. Don't really understand it. If you look on the appdata page for Cityville 2 it has at least 5 million monthly players and a good heap of daily players

  4. This is good news for MW, while other newer games with more monthly players are shutting down, we are getting a new city. This means MW is really profitable for the idiots at zynga.

  5. If they still have lots of players and are shutting down anyway, then obviously nobody is spending any money. I really wish people would stop spending money on Mafia Wars so we could all be put out of our misery already.

  6. If anyone has been playing CV2 for a while, the reason for it closing is obvious.

The game was rushed into service to compete with its SimCity counterpart.

It is fun, but was buggy as hell from the start (hence the cheats to get the MW co-prize). As time went on, they were adding new content faster than they could quash bugs, and eventually the game got so buggy that there was no way to fix the existing bugs. The worst bug was a killer itself, as the "add Friends" bug kept your family small.

Other bugs were downright painful, where multiple-part quests that required items to craft would only drop those items before and after that quest segment, not DURING. Other items required you to make parts, to make parts, to make the item for the quest (or to build), taking weeks to make one item, when you needed 3-6 for the final goal.

In addition, the load times of the cities got worse and worse as they got bigger, to the point where special promotions that you needed to click on to claim keys (RP equivalents) for free, timed out before their counter even appeared on the screen.

It was a nice, fun, game while it lasted (I loved their sense of humor), but it got rushed so bad it crashed and burned (like the actual Pioneer Trail part of Frontierville, that got dropped after they changed FtV's name to PT). I'll miss it. IT was definitely a better idea than MW2.
