The Arena FAQ: Released and Pulled

Share:

The Arena FAQ was released for a small time. It was pulled shortly after but Mr.Simy0 copied and reformatted it. It can be viewed here for easier reading and I’ve reprinted it below (for not so easy reading). It’s very long and elaborate but should answer any question we may have once the feature is released. In a nutshell the Arena takes a player out of Mafia Wars to fight other players in real time. Each Arena lasts for 90 seconds and offers rewards such as experience, ices, loot and a new stat called respect. Power Ups will help and you can buy them or craft them with Power Cards which will drop from fights and jobs. For those who didn't max on Power Cards or finish the Preview Event, that has been added back.
The Arena – FAQ

Please note that the feature is being incrementally rolled out and may not be available for all the accounts at the moment.
The battle lines are drawn. This is a war that's not about the win, but about the fight.
Mafia Wars presents the Arena beta: a synchronous, multiplayer fighting feature packed in a knuckle sandwich.
Get into The Arena, smash your way through your opponents and earn your Respect!
In an effort to make the Arena more fun and enjoyable for our players, we request you to share your feedback on the feature via the below Survey.

Introduction

Q: What is the Arena?
A: The Arena is a new synchronous multiplayer Fighting Feature in Mafia Wars where you gain Respect and exclusive Rewards by dealing Damage to your opponents.
Your standing in an Arena battle is based on the amount of Damage you deal to your opponents in a span of 90 seconds. The amount of Damage you can deal to your opponents is based on amount of Stamina spent in the battle along with your Personal and Mafia strength compared to your opponents’.
You receive better Rewards by dealing more Damage to your opponents. Use Power Ups to boost your performance in The Arena.
Q: What is meant by synchronous multiplayer Fighting?
A: The concept of synchronous multiplayer fighting essentially means that all opponents playing in the Arena will beinteracting in real time rather than taking turns in fighting.
All the opponents will be able to view each other’s Arena Health and Damage dealt in real-time. All actions performed by the players will have an instant effect on their opponents.
The Arena is based on an all new technology developed by Zynga, which makes synchronous multiplayer fighting possible inside a browser based game.
Q: Is there a minimum level requirement to play this feature?
A: Yes, a player needs to be at least on Level 25 to be able to play this feature. The minimum Stamina required to play the Arena is 100.
Q: Will the existing Fighting feature be replaced by The Arena?
A: Not at all, existing fighting feature will continue in the game.
Q: How do I enter The Arena?
A: You can enter the Arena through the Travel menu or by clicking on the “Enter the Arena” button on Home Page module.

Types of Arena - Stamina Cover Charges and Stamina Re-generation

Q: How do I create a new Arena?
A: You can create a new Arena by clicking on either “Fight now 100” or “Fight now 500”. The amount of Stamina refers to the Stamina Cover Charge for the new Arena which will be created.
Q: How do I join an Arena created by other players?
A: All active Arenas will be displayed on the Arena Lobby. You can click on Join button to join other fighters in any available Arena. An Arena requires a minimum of 4 players to begin and can hold up to a maximum of 8 players.
Following information will be displayed about the Arenas on the Arena Lobby:
a. Arena Name: Name of the Arena
b. Stamina Cover: The cover charge for a particular Arena (100 or 500 Stamina). You may choose a higher Stamina Cover Charge (500 Stamina) for a fierce battle ! (higher Arena Health/Attacks/Power Attacks).
c. Number of Players: Number of players currently waiting to start the game. An Arena requires a minimum of 4 players to begin.
d. Respect Range: This is the range of Respect of players inside an Arena in the format of Minimum –to– Maximum. You can also decide to join an Arena based on the Respect range.
e. Starts in (waiting time): Once an Arena has a minimum of 4 members, the fight will start in 20 seconds. You have an option to join an Arena just before the battle begins.

Q: What is a Stamina Cover Charge?
A: Stamina Cover Charge is the minimum amount of Stamina a player commits to spend in an Arena.
Example 1: If you click on “Fight now 100” to create a new Arena with Cover charge of 100 Stamina, all the players fighting in the Arena will be charged at least 100 Stamina including yourself.
Example 2: If you join an Arena which indicates a cover charge of 500 Stamina, you will be charged at least 500 Stamina once the Arena begins. Please note: Stamina Cover charge will be deducted from your Stamina even if you do not attack any opponent inside an Arena.
Q: How does the Stamina Cover Charge impact the game play?
A: The Stamina Cover Charge impacts Arena game play in 3 ways:
1. Minimum Stamina Spend requirement: As described previously, there is a minimum Stamina spend requirement for each type of Arenas (100 OR 500 Stamina).
2. Arena Health: Your Arena Health will depend on the type of Arena you choose to fight. Below is the difference in Arena Health depending on the type of Arena you are fighting in:
a. Your Arena Health will range from a minimum of 400 to a maximum of 800 (depending upon your Max Health)while fighting in an Arena with Cover Charge of 100 Stamina.

The amount of Stamina re-generated depends on the Stamina Cover Charge you choose to fight with: 100 Stamina Cover: 10 Stamina re-generated in every 15 seconds 500 Stamina Cover: 50 Stamina re-generated in every 15 seconds

Inside an Arena (Fighting and Score/Damage)

The Holding Cell
Once you create a new Arena or join an existing one, you will land on the Holding Cell and wait for opponents to join the Arena.
Please note that at least 4 players are required to begin.

The Holding Cell will display the below information:
1. Opponents’ List: List of opponents, their Respect and Difficulty level.
2. Arena Health: Your Arena Health based on your account’s Max Health and the type of Arena which you choose to fight.
3. Option to purchase Power Ups: You cannot purchase Power Ups after a battle begins in an Arena. Ensure to equip yourself before you start a fight!
Once the Arena has at least 4 players, the Arena fight will begin in 20 seconds and a countdown will indicate the start time:

Q: Will I be charged with Stamina Cover Charge while I am waiting for opponents?
A: You will not be charged while you are waiting for minimum required opponents. However, your Stamina will be locked as soon as there are at least 4 opponents in the Holding Cell and the countdown to Arena begins. After this point, you will be unable to create a new Arena or use your Stamina until the existing Arena ends.

Q: Why is my Stamina locked when I am in an Arena? Will this affect my normal game play?
A: The Arena is a time based fighting feature where you get 90 seconds to deal as much Damage as possible to the opponents. In order to display real time results and avoid any accidental Stamina spend (due to multiple browser tabs etc.), it is required that the Stamina stats are locked while you are playing the Arena. While you are in the Arena, you will be unable to spend your Stamina elsewhere using multiple tabs or any add ons.
Q: Can I exit to the Lobby even after an Arena has begun?
A: Yes, you can exit the Arena or the Holding Cell even after you have required opponents or if the Arena begins. However, your Stamina will be locked until the Arena ends (90 Seconds). During this time, you will see an option to Rejoin the Arena which you exited and you will be unable to spend Stamina elsewhere in the game.

Inside the Arena

You will be able to view the following inside the Arena:
1. Your Opponents: Click on your opponents to inflict Damage on them and raise your Score. The “Power Attack” button can be used to deal 5x Damage on your opponents.
2. Arena Health Indicators: You will be able to view yours and your opponents’ Arena Health in real time. Observe that the opponents’ Arena Health reduces in real time as you attack them and the same happens to your Arena Health when opponents attack you.
3. Your Respect: The Respect shown on the main Arena screen is the Respect at the beginning of the game. Your Respect will be re-calculated on the basis of your final position in the Arena which will be displayed in the Results page of the Arena.
4. Power Up buttons and count of remaining Power Ups: Various Power Up buttons and their count will be displayed on the main Arena screen.
5. Stamina Indicator and Stamina Refill Power Up button: Your Stamina status will be displayed along with a Stamina Refill Power Up button (Please note that Stamina Refill Power Up is different from the already available Stamina Refills)
6. Scores: Your Score as well as opponents’ Scores will be displayed in real time.
Q: How is the Score calculated?
A: Your Score depends on the total Damage dealt by you to your opponents. You can cause more Damage to your opponents by using Power Ups tactically and by increasing your Personal as well as Mafia Strength. Your rank at the end of an Arena session will depend on your total Score. You get bonus Score if you are able to reduce your opponents’ health to Zero.
Q: Can I still attack an opponent if their Arena Health reaches Zero?
A: When an opponent’s Arena Health reaches Zero, a cross mark will be shown over their image and you will be unable to attack them unless they use a Health Refill or are re-spawned again.

Q: Can I use my existing Stamina Refills in the Arena?
A: No, Stamina Refills in the Arena are different from the regular Stamina Refills hence you will be unable to use them in the Arena. Arena Stamina Refills are a type of Power Up and can be built using Power Cards or purchased through Reward Points.
Q: Do I get free Stamina while fighting in Arena?
A: Yes, you will get free Stamina every 15 seconds depending upon the Type of Arena you have joined.
100 Stamina Cover: 10 Stamina in every 15 seconds 500 Stamina Cover: 50 Stamina in every 15 seconds

Q: Would other player be able to attack me or reduce my Arena health even if I haven’t joined an Arena?
A: No, players will be unable to attack you unless an Arena battle is started. The Arena is a synchronous multiplayer game and your Arena stats will not be impacted unless you join one.
Q: What if I lose all my Arena Health? Will I re-spawn automatically?
A: Yes, if your Health reaches Zero, you will be re-spawned automatically in the next 10 seconds. Alternatively, you can use the Arena Health Refill Power Up to re-spawn immediately. You will see the below message if you run out of Health Refills and lose all your Arena Health:

Q: Can I my use existing Health Refills in the Arena?
A: No, Arena Heath Refills in the Arena are different from the regular Health Refills hence you will be unable to use them in the Arena. Arena Health Refills are a type of Power Up and can be built using Power Cards or can be purchased using Reward Points.

Respect

Q: What is Respect? How do I earn it?
A: Respect shows your strength as a fighter in the Arena. At the end of each Arena, you will gain (or lose) some respect. The amount of Respect earned or lost depends on your Final position in the Arena compared to your opponents as displayed on the Results page after an Arena battle ends. You will gain significant Respect if you are able to position yourself higher than an opponent with a higher Respect compared to you. On the other hand, you will lose Respect if an opponent with lesser Respect stands higher than you in an Arena. For example: Player A’s Respect is 1400 and Player B’s Respect is 1300. Case 1 – Player A has a better standing compared to Player B in an Arena battle Result: Player A would gain little Respect since they already have more Respect than Player B. AND Player B would lose a little Respect since they have lesser Respect than Player A.
Case 2 – Player B has a better standing compared to Player A in an Arena battle Result: Player B would gain significant amount of Respect since they were in a better standing than a Player A who had higher Respect compared to them. AND Player A would lose significant amount of Respect in this case since they were beaten by Player B who had a lower Respect compared to them.

Power Ups and Power Cards

Essential Power Ups like Arena Health and Stamina Refills are needed to get the fight going when you are out of stats. 1. I'm sure there will be scripts made once it's released. The script writers will need a chance to look at the back code and see what can be done with it.

    1. I'm sure it will make better sense once it's released. To me it looks like a stamina destination and you pay a fee with stamina to play. It's set up like Poker Tournaments when one starts an arena and others join. If players ignore the feature it may be difficult to find one. It's all going to depend on the experience and ice returns. If they are crap, the feature gets ignored, if they are better than fighting then it will be popular. If a script can't do it for you then it will ebb and flow when people are on line.

  8. After reading through this it appears that CC players have the advantage yet again, mainly being able to get Kamakazi and stamina refill. These seem to be the 2 most important to win..

    1. Why shouldn't cash players have an advantage if there was no advantage for cash players there would be no money in the game and therefore no game. Stop being a hater if you don't want to pay to play that's fair enough but stop complaining about others who do pay.

    2. In fact I think there should be more advantages for players with higher skills. Damage done should go on how strong you are like Moscow use too.

    3. I agree, these losers who think everything should be free are delusional.
PS3 and XBOX 360 games aren't free do you think they should be also?
Hell, while we're at it lets make everything free.
Useless generation of people who think everything should be handed to them and never have to work for anything.
Why don't you all hang out at Wall Street crying like babies, oh wait you already did.
Here's a suggestion, take a shower, get a job and stop complaining.

    4. Well my first comment certainly brought out the money lot,First off I am not a hater, I do spend money on the game, and am VIP, I just do not spend thousands.
Regarding X box and PS3 I also own them, but as for paying for the games it is a one off payment and I have the same advantage as anybody else, its not like if you pay more for an X box game you are bound to win,I was only stating an opinion. And as for the useless generation, I am in my 60s and cannot find work at my age, you should get your facts straight before passing comments on the younger generation...By the way here is my name this time..

    5. PS3 and XBOX 360 have extra content they are always charging for if you want it.
The useless generation I'm talking about is Generation Y.
Y do I have to get a job?
Y do I have to move out?
Y do I have to get up in the morning?
I do have my facts straight as I've had to fire 9 18-24 year old useless workers over the course of the last 3 years.
This generation wants everything handed to them with little to no effort on their part.
I feel for you not being able to find work, and respect that you want/need to work.
I'm 36 and I'm sure I'll be working into my 70s with the way things are going.
Also as with everything these are my personal experiences at work and with talking to many others.

    Nicely said Grimm.

My son bough me a gc last year for Christmas. I've never spent a dime other then that, and i always find a way through strategy to overcome the money players.
To each their own but i'd rather outsmart players then out buy them.
    Thank gawd for unlimited internet.

  11. I think these guys defending CC players are thinking about it all wrong. They act like they can spend some money and become great players and deserve admiration. I think the players who are to be admired and respected are those who can hold their own through their own intellect to strategize and truly play this game. I take great pride in the fact that I built this character with the tools and limited resources offered within the game. Anyone, and I mean anyone can attach a CC and play miserably and continue to marginally outpace the crafty non-CC players. The real idiots out there are the ones who think that they are really getting something for their money. Zynga is smart enough to only give them enough to get a little ahead and each time they do, they also give us non-CC players a path to catch up. Us non-CC players are just as important to this game as the CC players. It's a game of numbers and without us both, it would dissolve. So thank you to all of the CC players willing to subsidize the 99% who don't pay.

  13. Re: CC players, I've contributed to Zynga what I think the game is worth, but not enough to give me much advantage. Any advantage from the money evaporates in a short time anyway, every month it seems like the high-end mass-acquirable item goes up by 5 or 10 at/def. At that rate with a CC all you get is a totally temporary advantage. And stat points, the only thing worth getting with CC, are way too expensive too. I mean, $.25 per stat point, and you need maybe 5000 to give you actual advantage (and not much of one?) That's $1250 on this game for a slight edge. Nah, just give Zynga some money sometimes so you're not a total freeloader, but giving them money for game advantage? That's just pure stupid.

  14. I have never figured out this feature in the game. And will not try to figure it out, because its the most stupid feature in the game. I redeemed lots of stuff. (14 Arena health refills, 9 reflections, etc). I spent over 100 power cards on the stuffs for 1 battle. I join the battle, and clicked fast around the players. Use the arena health refill before my health reach 0. And it was the other player, who lost most lifes. After that, I feel it like a great round, because I didnt lose any life, and attacked the others more fast. But after calculating the score, I was on the second last place. I will never try this feature anymore, so stupid it is...

  15. It is rumored that the younger accounts using this Arena feature are currently becoming stronger than seasoned icing accounts at an alarming rate. What is your view on this statement. I currently do not use as it feels like an arcade game and yes I was one of the one that also thought Mafia War 2 was child's arcade game. Now look where Mafia Wars 2 is. Food for thought.
