Zynga must not be too interested in properly beta testing the Arena. The slow rollout is taking too long and now they have thrown in an Iceboard. It’s hard enough as it is to find an available room in the Arena and now there is even less of a reason to visit. An Ice Season would have been a better option. You will not get enough ices in the Arena to do well on the Iceboard. The 4th round of the Iceboard is like the others before it but there is a game changing twist. Instead of random mafia members like we have seen in the past, your "random mafia members" are from your family and you can't remove them. There is no longer a Mafia Iceboard as it's now called the Family Iceboard. Go here for more details about this nerf. Ice as many players as possible and try to score first in your random selection of mafia players or go for gold and try to be in the top 3 of all Mafia Wars players. The event will last a total of 7 days.
Get to the Family or Global rankings by using the “Iceboard” tab on the Home Page. You can toggle between the two boards. The Family Iceboard takes a random sampling of 50 players in your family. If you aren't in a family with at least 5 active members, you can't participate in this event. I know I'm not going to even try to get the rewards because my family is full of top icers. I don't have a chance. We will try to figure out a workaround but it may be too complicated and require too much work. The Global Iceboard will list the Top 3 icers and then show 7 others who have around the same number of ices as you do.
The loot items are worth trying. If you are #1 in your Mafia you will get a Golden Peacock that has stats of 208/137. If you are in the top 3 globally you will get a Gold, Silver or Bronze Reinforced Motocross Helmet (stats shown below). 
This event is late as the loot items were added to the inventory almost a month ago. Zynga did compensate for this and increased the loot item rewards as we suggested they should do [1].

The Iceboard must trump the Arena because the mini banner on the fight list was replaced. I wish they would remove all of these because they cause extra scrolling. We know there is an Iceboard or Arena (if it’s available) because we can see the banners on our Home Page. They don’t need to notify us on the Fight Page as well. At least the Iceboard is smaller so there is less scrolling involved. It may seen trivial but it is noticeable.
This time it's against your actual family and not random people from your mafia ;-)

Keeping it in the family is a definite improvement, but I still don't really see the point of this. Average players like myself have no chance of getting the top prize: in our family we all know who's going to get it, and no-one else will come anywhere near. If the top 3 in the family all got a prize I would try for it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it is because my family is small but my family iceboard shows only 16 family members. We don't have 50 people but they could have put the entire family there instead of just 16.

ReplyDeleteYes, fighting's going to suck for a week again. That's about all that these (or Ice Seasons) really accomplish. I don't know anyone that considers either of them to be "fun" because they take so long clickety-clickety-click. It wouldn't be as bad if Zynga would update their servers to handle the load and stop intentionally throttling player actions.
ReplyDeleteSweet. This is good for families because you can just TELL people not to do ANY ices, and thereby ensure everyone gets the top loot.
ReplyDeleteits now going by most active in the family, so now we will be able to see whos the laggers in the family and bring them up on this why they dont do icing for the family.

ReplyDeleteDOn't really care where I finish (currently # 2 though) as long as I get the family amount of 150 ices per day. I think this is now unfair to a lot of players even in your own family and will turn even more away from the game. At least with the previous Ice Seasons, everyone had a chance to get some kind of reward. Why should one who has the time to spend on here hours on end be rewarded over those that still get their 150 but time does not allow them many more than that?
