Mafia Wars News Feed Issues: Facts & Fiction

Share:

There was another issue with games and Facebook news feed posts. Mafia Wars requests just vanished into thin air. The only Mafia Wars post that could be seen was the one Zynga pays for. This issue has been resolved for most players and the Mafia Wars posts are back in action. There is a unresolved bug involving the news feeds which has been going on since December but it is account specific and strikes randomly (1).

The same thing happened on January 16th and was also quickly resolved (1). The timing couldn’t have been worse. We got new Declare War loot items today and searching for war help posts has been a priority. Posting links instead of posts is often the workaround to news feed issues. Many did just that and found that they were blocked by Facebook and labeled as “spammy”.

At the time of the outage, Brandon Venery discovered through the Facebook Developers Page that there were API latency issues (1).

Don’t believe everything you read in the news feeds. The following has been posted in the news feeds and on our Fan Page.  Zynga has a contract with Facebook and they aren’t going anywhere until it’s over in 3 years. The latest news feed rumor comes from a Tech Crunch post published in May of 2010.  You can find it  here.

Thanks to everyone for posting information and keeping is updated on the Mafia Wars Loot Lady Fan Page and to Anthony for the screen shot of his spammy war help link.

  1. It wasn't just Mafia Wars; Restaurant City (non-Zynga game) had the same issue at the same time, and came back at the same time as well.

  3. Sadly, I've had the MW Feed outage since last Thursday. Even sadder is that it is a coding problem and zynga had a mass exodus of coders after the IPO. There's no one left who understands how to fix it.
