A Great Deal of Explanation

Share:

The 7 Days Of Holidays Event left many players confused. After the Family Property, most of us are used to it. My less than stellar explanation must have been noticed because the instructions were updated. This event does require that player who participate spend Reward Point so Zynga was on top of the situation.
The old explanation stated  "you can purchase a deal as many times as you want as long as you have more numbers of the previous deal". It took this to mean that I would need 2 Day 1 Deal items to purchase 1 Day 2 Deal item. Last time I checked, 2 was "more numbers" than 1.
My interpretation was off. The "How the Deals work" instructions have changed and now it says "you can purchase a particular deal as long as you have purchased at least one more previous deal". An example was given this time and they say on "On Day 3 if you have 5 Day-2 Deals then you can purchase up to 5 Day-3 Deals. The example helps because it looks like you can buy 1 Day-2 Deal if you have 1 Day-1 Deal. The instructions are still bad (save the example) because it says "at least one more". If taken literally (one more than one is two), this would mean I need 2 Day-1 items to buy 1 Day-2 item. The example doesn't fit the description. We will know for sure in about 4 hours from now when Deal 2 unlocks. No matter how you look at it, using Reward Points to buy loot items is never a deal.

Thanks to Leonard for catching this update.

  1. You obviously are not a math person. In order to buy a deal, you do have to have at least one more of the previous deal. If you have four of deal #1 and four of deal #2, you can't buy any more of deal #2. You have to have one MORE of deal #1. If you want to buy a fifth deal #2, you need to first buy a fifth deal #1, so that you have one MORE than deal #2.

Let me put this in step form:
    - You have 4 deal #1 and 4 deal #2. Because you have the same amount of each, you can't buy an more deal #2.
    - If you want more you have to first buy deal #1. You will then have 5 of deal #1 and 4 of deal #2. YOU NOW HAVE THE REQUIRED 1 MORE.
    - You may now buy deal #2.

The instruction are completely clear to me.

  2. With day 2 released it's now apparent you can go back and prop up a previous day, however your current day will only give you the # of items per 40RP purchase that you had on the previous day.

For example, if on day 1, I buy 2 items for 80RP, on day 2 FOR EVERY 40RP spent, I will get 2 items.

Even if I go back and prop up day 1 to 10 items (spending 40RP each time!), if I then make another purchase for 40RP on day 2, I still only get my original 2 items, not 10.

I can only presume however that if you did so, on day 3 you would then be able to get 10 items for 40 RP. If you still only got 2, there would be no point to allowing you to prop up previous days.

  3. I thought I had an inkling of how this promo worked but you never know with Zynga language. Thanks for helping us make heads of the deal.

  4. Here's a chart showing how it breaks down if you wanted to use 10 "deals" per day:

    DAY: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

    DEALS:10 10 10 10 10 10 10

    RP
    COST: 400 400 400 400 400 400 400

    OWN: 10 20 30 40 50 60 70

This yields a total of 280 items for 2800RP or 10RP per item. Regardless of how may sets/deals you want, it works out the same: 10RP/item.

If at any point you decide you want more "deals" or sets, you can just back-fill and spend the necessary RP. As long as you keep each day's number of deals available even, you will end up spending 10RP per item.

  5. I do get how it works, the point is their explanation, if taken literally as worded means you need to buy 2 of deal 1 to get 1 of deal 2. It says you have to have 1 more of the previous deal. They just forgot to add the instruction for players who only want one purchase of each and assume people will be buying this crap in bulk.
