There are a few things to point out about Mafia Wars 2. The first is Zynga was kind enough to remove it from the Travel Bar. It wasn't wanted and I can't tell you how many times I ended up in Mafia Wars 2 when I wanted to go to the Secret District. Annoying!!!
Before
After
Don't worry, Zynga still has a few more tricks up their sleeve to get you to play. If you follow this blog, you knew last week that a Mafia Wars/Mafia Wars 2 cross game promotion was coming (1). Today the popup was added to all accounts.
What is special for Zynga about this popup is there is no way to close it out. If you close the window and go back to Mafia Wars, it appears again. If you don't want to play Mafia Wars 2 and click anywhere but the "Play Now" button, you get the permission request window.
If you click on "Don't Allow", you get another fancier one. This one doesn't have a close button either and you need to close the entire window to get out of it. At this point you can go back to Mafia Wars 1 without the cross promotion popup.
If you already got to Level 5 in Mafia Wars 2 and have been waiting to get your Pole Dancer, you already allowed permission. At this point, click the "Play Now" from the original popup and you will automatically get the Pole Dancer.
Double check your inventory to make sure you got the item.
If you aren't planning on playing Mafia Wars 2, now is the perfect time to block it or you will get flooded with requests and your news feeds will be abundant with spam.
I will keep it blocked unless they have another cross promotion that helps me in the original Mafia Wars.
Maybe Zynga is trying to trick players into checking out Mafia Wars 2 so the application stats will look better. It was a lot of clicking to avoid going there so I imagine people who don't want to play will end up going anyways. These numbers from App Data are probably a better indicator of how many people are actively playing the original version of Mafia Wars. They aren't doing that bad considering how new the application is.
