Family Battles

Share:

Totally f'ing up the Family Module yesterday wasn't a sign to cool down so today they are attempting to release the Family Battle feature. It works for some and others are having problems which doesn't surprise me at all.
Here is the in game explanation
You will find a new section in the Family Module called Battle. In theory, you can select families from the list given to you. All but one of mine were grayed out.
Pick the type of battle you want. There is a 4 hour and 48 hours choice.
Send the request if you can and most likely you will be told that "This opponent is already in a battle, and cannot be challenged currently. This reminds me a lot of the Declare War feature.
I don't know when it happened but my family got one to work. When there is a battle going on, your Mission icon will be outlined in red and and you can't miss the Battle reminder.
Go to you Family Page and you will see a new section next to the Perks called "Battle". If you have a battle going on, you will get a fight list of the family you are at battle with.
Find someone on the opposing family who is alive and attack them.
It will show up just as a normal fight.
Use the little green arrow to refresh the list.
You can easily track your score and the time remaining from each battle from the Missions Bar.

This is what the Official Mafia Wars Blog has to say about determining a winner.

The family that has the most points at the end of the timed Family Battle wins. You earn points for your family by icing and killing rival family members and by attacking your rival family's safehouse. When all family members are under 20 health, a safehouse will be vulnerable to attack. The longer a safehouse gets attacked, the more points the attacking team earns, so you want to defend your safehouse at all costs.

What do we get for all this work? Here is what Customer Support tells us. It hardly seems worth all the hassle. If these "Family Battle mastery points" have any value maybe it will be fun.

Q: What do we receive for taking part in a Family Battle?
A: Each fight action taken will earn individual fight experience along with fight loot. Your Family will also receive Family Battle mastery points for both wins, and losses.

As if this isn't exciting enough, there is more to come regarding this feature. I guess we can't really blow it off as I had initially planned. I'm still not very excited about this because there is too much going on in the game as it is.

  1. is there a way to get other familys to choose from rather than just the 5 you get at first ?

  2. whats for sure i'm not playing this...why zynga keeps stockpiling us with endless mission and chores?

  3. It's going to suck to deal with people who use bookmarklets like assassinator that have an auto heal. If you're in a family where quite a few use it, it'll be pretty much impossible to have everyone below 20 health at any given time. Looks like all the points will be just from icing people with the "safehouse" feature probably never coming into play.

  4. Oh this is too funny, this was in part my idea, and to see it come to live with a few different twist is freaking funny as all hell, Zynga could have at lest said thanks for the suggestion, what a bunch of ass wipes,

    My Two Cents
I can see it might be a novelty to add on to a mock war...it does show when folk are alive etc like a live rivals list and well if they all hide ya can attack their fortress but its quick to get down and really does nothing and then your bored again
At the end ya get nothing NOTHING but battle exp...im guessing perhaps at the end of that level ya might get something (similar to how the family perk system works)BUT at least with the family perks ya get EXP etc
That said it does score how many ices each gets so you can certainly monitor how active each member is against the TARGET only as monitoring ice numbers never works cos well they could be icing anyone, this only counts those on the other team
BUT if they are in your mafia...you cant hit them and there is no option to remove them there. You need to go find their profile or go to their actual module and then remove which is bollox

  7. My two cents (actually, as someone from J.T.B; I can actually see myself in one of your pictures showing the battle interface):

It doesn't seem too bad. It's pretty much an icing war with some stuff about a storehouse. I only have two issues, the first of which has arguments for both sides.

    ---

My first issue is that, if you're doing Ice Seasons or Mission objectives that involve icing, you're pretty much screwed if your family is battling someone else (though this might be more of a case of just battling a family where the worst level was twice my own). Even if your defense is great, you're having multiple people gunning for you. I leveled up earlier today and just wanted to get an ice or two to build up my Season total (I'm not much of a fighter) only to have three or so {ASS} folks ice me (no hate from me, Jen; don't worry about it). I understand that this is how it works, but it really hinders progress for people still trying to get ices for other elements of MW.

Unfortunately, even if people complain about this, I highly doubt Zynga will do anything about it. Remember those Fight the Bosses events? They didn't do much of anything when it came to those, so I doubt they would make an exception for this.

    ---

The second issue is loading. Seriously, it took me multiple tries and too much time to load the battle interface. I actually changed our family message to "Family battle going on now: either stay dead, keep healing or wait for the thing to not load." It was ridiculous.

    ---

One bit of data to contribute from our battle. I don't know if it's point-dependent or W/L-dependent, but we gained 2.5% mastery as a result of the battle. You guys earned many times more points than we did, but did that translate to a more substantial mastery gain or no?

You won't have the problem of taking your own mafia members out of the attacking list if you use MW addon for chrome. I have my whole clan and befriended clans listed in that addon. I will never be able to attack them by accident :) (just a tip!)

    My two cents:

We got either attacked, or one of my family members started it, but all the members of the other clan are dead or have no health. It's no fun...

Question: Did anyone find out how to put the other clan's memberlist into the white list? I'd love to know how lol!

  10. I have a question? Do we have to unfriend our own mafia to take part in this if we happen to have mafia in the same family we are at war with?

  11. I for one think there is too much going on in the game as it is and do`t relish making more enemies...hehe already popular on the hitlist

  12. Family battles really suck. If you are in a battle forget about doing anything else that requires fighting. As soon as you heal you are almost instantly dead again. I can see a massive wave of people leaving families. This has to be the worst feature ever released in Mafia Wars. What a disaster.

  13. My family is useless they dont even fight in the family boss fights. 12 or so people do all the work while most click 1 or 2 times just to soak up the rewards... so this battle things is going nowhere in my family. ive long since been ready to give up on MW and this whole family bullchit is only proving that i've been right to want out. so much fluff, no family support, changes in the game that hinder the fun we all had when we first joined, lost progress, game freezing, the few and far between good changes that take forever to get out to all of us, the useless bad changes that get forced on us instantly..... it's too much

  14. I'm sorry, what is the reward?

  15. @ Miss Iris.... you can go to the family mw profile page by click on the name on someone who you have attacked or has attacked you.... mwaddon will then give you the option to whitelist everyone.

  16. I have discovered another major issue with these Battles. If you are doing a battle with an opponent, you are still liable to attacks from the fight list. Should you get iced from the fl whilst in a fight within the battle, your opponents family get 1 point for the ice. This is regardless of you winning the fights

  17. Another major problem with this. Some of the family who have clicked 'join battle' do not even show on the battle page, so we dont even know if them icing people adds to our points or not, and if they are just wasting their stam hitting for no reason. Also I noticed I still get attacked by other members of the opposing family, which dont show in battle either. It worked fine before they changed it to points per person, rather than ices.
