Cuba Spikes The App Stats

Share:

A very interesting happened to the Mafia Wars Daily Users App Stats once Zynga reopened Cuba. You can see a little spike in the daily player numbers.
The day before was significant because the Daily Users number dipped below 1 million, a record low for Mafia Wars.
There are two words to explain why the numbers increased....Cuban Mercenary. The easiest way to acquire them was to use your pretty much useless mini accounts and gift them to yourself.
It looks like 20,645 people did just that.
Maybe Zynga will see that it benefits them to give us a reason to use our alternate accounts. The trading community is dying and making better items giftable would help that. Here are the Top 8 giftable items and you can see they are all junk.

  1. May be Zynga will fix the games and Get a better support team. The issues are driving everyone away form these games. Who wants to pay to play a game that is always messed up.

  2. I think that with the "less than a million"-players mark the titanic has collided with the iceberg - and the new HEL loot is the orchestra now playing louder......

  3. Wake Up....It's Not An Ailing Trading Community That Is The Cause Of The DAU Dropping. Try The Fact That There ARE Not Many New Players Joining The Game. And Those That Do Join Leave Rather Quickly Because They Get Their Buts Handed To Them When They Join The Shark Tank. Add That To The Closing Of 3 Cities Within 6 Months Of Each Other And Those Players Didn't Get Them Finished. Add To That Event After Event That The New Players Can't Finish. Add To That The Fact That Zynga Drives Home That You Need To Spend Real Money To Keep Up With The Jones' In The Game. Not All Of us Have A Platinum Card To Buy Our Way Through The Game. Also, In It's Current State We Feel We Have To Play Constantly Or We Will Fall Behind, Lose Out, Or Miss Something. Then There Is The Fact That The Game Has Become A Fighting Game. Other Than Street Gangs What Mafia's Fight Constantly? Certain Aspects Of The Game Have Been All But Forgotten About. Like Robbing. There Are More Issues Why People Quit That I'd Place Over The Ailing Trading Community.

Sure, Making More Loot Giftable Will Help The Trading Community And Maybe Give A False Illusion Of An Increase In The DAU As You Described Above.

Zynga Don't Know Simple Math. That Is, Increase The Player Base = Increase Revenue. This Game Has Great Potential I Am Just Not Certain That Zynga Realizes That.

  5. Well said. I quit playing all together and kept a few mafia playing friends around (the reason I saw this post.) The game got repetitious and boring. Click...click...click. The nail in the coffin was the back to back events. I figured I didn't need to play a game where I would get pissed off every week about not being able to finish something or begging for something. And while I may miss how the game was, I don't miss what it has become.

  7. Ummm, the reason I wasn't playing was that hurricane Irene took out the power. Granted an eastern-seaboard US coast is not enough to compare with world-wide numbers, but it should've caused a dip, nonetheless.

  8. I don't think it's the surge of mercenary gifting...I think it's because now there is actually something to do in MW. Families are killing the game. Everything is family oriented, and for the casual gameplayer who doesn't want to add non-FB friends it is impossible to create a strong family with just your friends. By catering the game to the elite few who are obsessive with the game, you are losing the average player. Less fighting. More missions. (and btw, it's not that I'm weak, I get to level 5 diamond in ice seasons every week. It's just boring.)

    My two cents.

  9. I think the decrease is in fact not thanks to Zynga but thanks to 2 thing:
    1. many users are leaving facebook itself for google+, twitter, and/or are returning to FB only sporadically and so don't have time to play games like MW which require daily routine
    2. the popularity of such "click" games is constantly decreasing, they are not new anymore and everybody gets bored with the same principle, a new model has to come (not just a new game) which might reinvogorate the genre, otherwise the genre will just die, like adventure games did in 1995-2005 until they came back for a second generation in the recent years...

  10. Just my two cents...

The game really hasn't changed in three years. Families have always been there. People have always spent money on the game. Fighting has always been the focus of the game. We've always had events. And, there have always been problems with servers and nerfs.

The game is becoming stale to players. Simple. Another mission, more fighting, and same events (with different names).

Being the admin of two different Families, I receive "requests to join" every day. Because these requests come from low-level players, I delete their requests. Want to incesse a new player base, increase the amount of players you can have in a Family module. Want to increase a new player base, allow the gifting of HEL/FHEL so these new players aren't getting their asses handed to them.

Many players say horse-shit to the Trading Community excuse, when in fact, Jennifer is correct. At one time, we as a community could help our low-level players with loot to hold their own amongst some of the bigger players. Think of the FHEL you have in your Inventory...do you think you could keep a level 250 interested in the game if you gifted them 500 Bolt Pistols?

If you said "no", you're probably wrong.

  11. Everyone is saying stuff that does make sense, but the bottom line is that Zynga needs to listen to everyone, hardcore players, casual players, traders, loners, everyone who plays. Make it fun for us all like it used to be.

  12. Well, I think the main reason is monotony. The number of daily players have been dropping for some time. These are usually members that have played for 6 months or more. People are growing tired of what is essentially a simple game (thankfully there is some personal interaction). To compensate, Zynga has rolled out multiple "theme" specials and put an emphasis on regular players paying more.

  13. For me, the main reason I consider giving up the game is the poor customer service provided by Zynga.
For weeks now I have been without the new stam/health pacs while others are able to gain there family daily quota as well as the Ice event, I am not. Zynga's reply is "We are working on it".
If Zynga would spend more time fixing there game of the known issues instead of wasting time trying to fix things that are not broke and trying to out fox the auto players then maybe they would not have so many support tickets still not being addressed.
I have friends that have not been able to gift for months, slow loading pages, half screens, the revolving wheel of death and on and on.

The Shark Tank is the second reason I will eventually quit the game.
I have been playing this game for a little over 2 1/2 years now and have seen a lot of lvl 450-600 quit due to the Shark tank. They build what they think is a pretty strong player and pow, hit lvl 450 and get pounded on all day long as soon as they log on by levels 5 times theres.
My main account is by no means an energy Ho or whimp. But even at level 700'ish,with A&D @ 6.5 times my level on both sides. I get my butt handed to me as soon as I log on.
The re-introduction of Ruby level Cuba will only help the high energy players to get over the 200k mafia mark. I have to add every skill point I get to A&D just to try and stay alive long enough to do any fighting of my own.
Since I refuse to put a free game ahead of food and shelter, I am left with 2 choices: 1) quit the game 2) accept the fact that all etiquette has gone out the window and the old rule of 100 levels below you, has gone out the window. Just my opinion.

  14. all about the money ...thay roll out crap at the end of the fiscal accounting cycle so they try to do a money grab every 3 month when they have to report earnings...and they have been trying to get rid of traders for over a year , as traders were selling loot to players and zynga was not getting there cut of that money. so for trading to die a slow death.is fine with zynga.. it all about the money ...nothing to do with the game but maximize the the money , hence the spamming events...
