It's bad enough that there are too many events in Mafia Wars. It sucks more when you get one and it doesn't work. Often there are issues with events that seem to be unique to individual accounts. With every Limited Time Mission, there are always a few players who don't ever get them. This week I was a victim of a non-functional event. I posted about my unique bug involving the Arch Enemies Boost Mastery Event here. Three days, three trips to Zynga Customer Support and hundreds of gifts later, my Arch Enemies Home Page Module still looks like this. No matter how many gifts I accept, my progress for each gift stays at 0/4. It's very annoying and it's driving me crazy. I almost want to say screw this game.
Let me blow up the timer and you can see that my time has run out. I will not be able to complete this event as there is a limit of 200 Free Gifts a day and I need to accept 204 to master the event two more times.
The first Customer Support agent offered to credit my account with 60 Reward Points to "buy" the next two events. I had to explain to him that it would take 612 as the gifts cost 3 Reward Points each and I would have to buy a total of 204 to master it and get my loot items. He changed his tune after that and stated that he would report my issue and I should return in 18 hours if it wasn't fixed.
The next day I returned and was told that my issue was being escalated to a higher level of support. I provided screen shots that clearly showed what the problem was. You can see no matter what type and how many gifts I accept, the progress stays at 0/4.
I waited patiently and the next day the problem still persisted. I tried one more time armed with a video just in case they didn't understand what was happening. The video is shown below but it will bore you to death if you watch it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get bored as each time I performed the actions shown below my rage meter went up a few notches.
I was quite frustrated when I received an email stating that no abnormalities were found and a video was requested. I had already done this and was told by 3 different agents that they checked my account and verified that I did accept the gifts but the progress wasn't registering. This really made me just say screw the whole thing. Why should I have to spend hours of my time trying to prove that something doesn't work to multiple people. It's rather clear what is going on and by the time I find someone who gets it, it will be too late. I've pretty much given up on the situation and will not go back to Customer Support until the event is over and can only hope the loot items will be credited to my account.
"I understand that you're trying to complete for second time the Arch Enemies feature in the game. I have checked your game and we were unable to verify any abnormality.
I would like to made a deeper research about your case and I would like you to be so kind to send us a screenvideo showing that you already started the feature again and when you accept the gifts that they are nor counting (also be sure that the video has the current browser that you are using, time and date)."/Customer Support
I have accepted the proper number of gifts in hopes that I will be compensated with the loot I rightfully earned. Each gift contains 5 boosts and you need a total of 102 of each type to master the event 3 times. Here are screen shots from my inventory showing that I did just that because I have over 510 of each type of boost. I've been robbing a lot in Cuba so the Vitals Sights will be gone by the time I contact Customer Support again.
Here are all the loot items I won't be able to collect. I will miss out on two of each item listed.
I wanted to figure out how many equipment attack and defense points this loss would amount to so ran the Show Worst Items bookmarklet by Team Spockholm. Subtracting my worst item numbers from the scores of the loot listed above and multiplying by 2 (Quiver of Cobras (attack)=110-86=24 x 2 = 48, Arrow Plane(defense)=114-95=19 x 2=38, Competition Compound Bow (attack) =118-100=18 x 2= 36, Olympic Archer (attack and defense) = 151-81=70 x 2 = 140, 114-85=29 x 2 = 58) amounts to a grand total of 224 attack points and 96 defense points.
If they are going to insist on giving us a Bullfrog, they should at least make sure it's useful to all players. When they learn that it's not, it should be fixed in a timely fashion. They sure fix glitches that can result in exploits in record time. It's as if they think the problem can just be thrown out the window and is just another example of how the playing field is not balanced.
Thanks to Mike Nestor for uploading the first video on the Informant Podcast YouTube Channel and to Eike for finding the perfect video to add some humor to this unfortunate situation.

Your screenshots prove nothing, since they can be easily photoshopped. Anyone using scripts and bots should expect a few glitches with their account...
ReplyDelete@anonymous, the purpose of the video is to back up the screen shots. Like I would really take the time to make this up and photoshop images. I don't use bots and only use bookmarklets which obviously you haven't figured out how to use or you wouldn't be hating on those who do. Grow a set of balls and sign your name next time you plan on accusing someone of lying. Jealous haters like you are the worst.
ReplyDeleteI'm on your side, but just a question:
ReplyDeleteIt's three RP's for level "mastery" ("Buy mastery for 3RP"), not each gift. So if each level actually is three RP's to master, 60 RP's would be enough to master the event two more times. I would think that each level's RP requirement increases though, as it takes more "gifts" to complete each.
Did you try buying a level for three RP's? Did it really only increase the stat by one item? If it did, you should be 3x mad!
Your points about what get's fixed and what gets ignored are right on the money! As is your rebuttal to "Anonymous". This is a game glitch, NOT a script or bot issue. And because of that, who's to say that using RP's would actually register anyway?

if all else fails.. file a BBB complaint :)

when I rob in cuba, each one of the nine properties i rob says i earned the Vitals Sight, yet i am never credited with it. What another epic failure this event has been.
ReplyDelete@hater -- umm, duh if they were photoshopped then she would have the reward loot in her account which would be easyto verify. Not a very useful scam so you are just looking for yet another way to hate. Too bad for you.
ReplyDelete@Jen - what customer service is saying in their typically bad way is that the developers looked but did not see what was specifically broken in code and thus could not be fixed. So they had no fix to report back. Likely the devs are trying to hold the account as is since you have so well documented the symptom and hopefully they figure out what is going wrong in specific cases. So why rage on a group that is simply faced with a hard challenge to fix? Start asking them to look in your account, see that the reward loot is not there and add it into your account. Those 60RP for your time helping to troubleshoot would seem the right thing to do as well ;)
I had a similar problem when I was racing to finish up the new cities in Brazil to get into the RUBY drop event. Back then I was buying stamina left and right... then their mission opened up and I had started Part 5. I recall I had done the other two parts of it and was doing the job to get I believe it was Fusion Reactors, I recall it was 12 drops needed to finish. I got 5, mission closed, up dropped the 'Part completed', sent out the loyalty points and Mission OVER. done, finito.
ReplyDeleteAt the same exact time, drops of Ruby items stopped. for over 36 hours I did not get a single drop. I have 4500+ energy and leveled 22 times in that 36 hours and did not get a single drop.
It wasn't till after I FINALLY got a reply from Z the first time that the drops started again. The math comes to just shy of 100,000 total energy used without a drop item.
They insist that this was a rare drop event and that was normal game function. I still have the E-mails
The guy insisted I got the items from the Mission even though I was only allowed to get through Part 5... but refused completely to give me ONE Firefly which is the only thing I truly wanted as I have each of the other weapons.
They run like a government... you fill out taxes and send in, they find out you were wrong and owe more and send a bill... (FLIP) You fill out taxes and are owed more but missed that line, they keep the money cause you are incompetent. (sigh)
What do you think of these apples.
BTW, When I send problems to them NOW, I post in there somewhere that I refuse to settle for their 'generic, copy and paste' posts. And usually they actually write to me after that.

@Nick, even though it says "Buy Mastery" they mean buy a small portion of mastery. Each Gift costs 3 Reward Points. If you look up some older gifting events, you will find screen shots. It really sucks that they word it that way and get your hopes up but to buy "mastery" you need to buy each gift and the RP amount does not change for each level, you just have to buy more.
ReplyDeleteAlthough customer service has its pitfalls and pleasantries no matter which company you're dealing with, in this case Zynga here, if you actually used 612 reward points to complete the event, as opposed to repeat crafting for solar flare's, rebel 2's, stun knuckles', wasper knife's, MNU Suit's, or Wildebeast's, which would generate significant skill points, would be a "blonde thing". All such repeat crafting for skill points would far outweigh the limited increases in your arsenal scores. In any event, your rant/rage at the situation shines through and having a blog site that thousands of Mafia Wars players view regularly, including myself, to "trash" Zynga seems to be a "strong arm" option you chose to pursue. Just my 2 cents.
ReplyDelete@anonymous #4, you are not gaining a Vitals site for robbing, you are using one as it's a robbing boost.
ReplyDelete@Andrew - Do you really think Jen is "strong arming" Zynga by allowing the frustration the event caused her to come through in her detailed analysis of the issue? ...seriously???
ReplyDeleteI've been playing MW on a (pretty much) daily basis since June '09 and only one thing has been constant: This game is riddled with glitches. I for one am glad that a site/blog like this is out there and that the admins have the balls to voice real issues for all of us, and in a way that shows the developers the frustration we feel when crap like this happens. That's not strong arming and it's not trashing Zynga. It's voicing and opinion. Hopefully an opinion that they will take note of because of the MWLL site's popularity. The end goal for both player and developer alike should be to make the game work, shouldn't it? More times than not, it's the squeeky mouse that gets the cheese (wheel/grease, whatever).
I guess it must be nice for you to have the one account out there that doesn't ever run into any problems...

When you figure out the percentage of those affected with the particular glitch here, compared to the percentage of people reading this blog post, I would have to think the latter is a significantly higher percentage than the former of the regular readers of this blog. Perhaps I'm wrong, perhaps I'm right, but nobody in my family or fight club have reported a similar glitch - again a small percentage of the Mafia Wars daily playing population. As far as it being a "real" issue, I would have to agree that for those affected by this particular glitch, it would be a "real" issue to them. For those who had the negative experience resolving the issue such as the author of the blog post appears to have had, it once again "amplified" it being a "real" to them. However, at the end of the day, how one deals with their "issue" (publicly versus privately) and their own power of persuasion is the key here. Does a reader of the blog post say "I'm lucky it didn't happen to me", or "Ha Ha I laugh at your misfortune", or my opinion that in all the time I have read this blog, this is perhaps the strongest example in the history of this blog of Zynga being trashed over a glitch that I suspect affected very few people in the Mafia Wars community? I just felt in this case, my perspective was warranted of being voiced.
