We were told via the
Official Mafia Wars Blog that starting this past evening, the drop rate for Sniper Shots would be tripled.
I was happy to get The Raven and couldn't wait to see if the drop rate had improved. It's been verified by many players that you get 2-4 Sniper Shots as soon as The Raven makes his appearance. We all know that's not enough and the drop rate from ices for my account (and many others) was 0% every time. It's a common joke in the news feeds that 3 times 0 equals 0.
As soon as I noticed that the Assassin-a-Nator spotted The Raven, I took an image of my Sniper Shots and compared it to the image I took right after I killed him for the last time. I have a few extras because I purchased ten of them when they were on sale in the Marketplace. I got 4 Sniper Shots when The Raven initially showed up.
I checked on my Ammo counts midway through my stamina run and found I had gained 4 after utilizing 5,432 Stamina and getting 121 ices and 19 kills.
Once I spent a little over 5,000 more stamina, I stopped the run. I didn't gain anymore Sniper Shots so it appears there may be a cap on how many we can get in the 8 hour time frame regardless of how much stamina you spend.
I spent a total of 10,437 stamina, achieved 233 ices and 31 kills to get a total of 4 Sniper Shots. While this is an improvement from what it was before, the conclusion is you will still need to spend Reward Points to defeat The Raven if you don't want to wait for him to appear several times in order to farm enough Ammo.
Based on my calculation from prior Raven fights, I know I need 14 Knife Slashes, 14 Cracks of the Bat and 28 Sniper Shots to get the job done. I'm still 6 Sniper Shots short and need to spend some stamina to get enough Cracks of the Bat and energy to load up on Knife Slashes. As of today, the same Red Combo still works (Knife, Sniper, Sniper Bat) and there have been no reports of the additional 5 combos that are suppose to come into play.

I'll go ahead and play this silly game with Zynga 4 more times. The only real silver lining of the recent changes is that there is no longer the expectation to do this Boss Fight 100 times. One loot item is not worth the Reward Points needed to buy enough Sniper Shots. If you don't mind waiting a while to get your Requiescat in Pace Decimus Achievement, it would be best to farm Ammo items when The Raven comes around and not do the fight until you have enough to beat him.

lol, 4 sniper shots, before I got about 5-6 at least, this must be the Zynga way of "tripling" drop rates, from 0.01 to 0.03 percent per ice, epic
ReplyDeleteI think the better way to fight is return the old fashion way.. IT is clearly that Zynga want player to buy RP.. The has recenty showed that During those recent event That high stats get better loot and favorised bullied in the game.. There are also a fact that some small players who just started playing the game already 125k-170k stats and with good skills.. those has not learned or enjoyed the game like we did before.. hunting City by City.. low level players deosn't need to do bangkok because the loot are easily found and some want to get rid of them.. Mafia wars ain't fun like before.. Removing CUBA>MOSCOW>BANGKOK.. the requirement for Italy /brazil should access @ level 100+ that would make learn how to make fun. Events on Events and low level players are frustrated. Well Zynga wants only money and don't care about the fun..

Fantastic news though! Get some buckets and Raven is free from now on :D I had 1271 ices (could've kept on much longer) and got 4 sniper shots immediately when he dropped and then 22 during the icing time. So I went out of the fight 2 sniper shots richer than when it started, and it could've been even more. So I'm very happy with change. Only 3 more times and x10-achievement is done. :D
