Scam Blocking Links and App Tags

Share:

Wella Warner has posted an excellent note created by LeT about phototagging scams and how to block them. This note is updated whenever new scams are found and block links are created. You will find over 60 rogue Facebook application block links. These are all scams and if they are blocked, you won't ever see them. Rather than copy and paste them here, it's best to go to the original source as updates will be made when more are found. Thanks to Wella, LeT and Rh for taking the time to do this for us.
Go HERE to read the note and access all the links. The image is just to demonstrate how many there are.
Click on each link and you will be prompted to block it. It's pretty easy to do and doesn't take very long.
Another way scammers try to get you is to tag you in photos that will lead to their shady applications. If this happens to you, remove the tag and the image will be removed from your profile. I would also remove and block the person who tagged you in a bogus Facebook Application photo. Some may be nicer and let the person know in case their accounts were hacked. I'm so far behind with my Friend Requests that my theory is if people aren't paying attention to what we teach on this blog in regards to protecting their accounts, I'd be better off having Facebook friends that are more careful and aware. They can always be re-added down the road.
To prevent people from viewing photos or videos you are tagged in, go to your privacy settings and customize who can view them. People can still tag you but you can control who views the photos. The path to do this is as follows:  Account-->Privacy Settings-->Customize Settings-->Photos and videos you're tagged in-->Edit Settings-->Customize-->Select the option for you-->Save Setting.

  1. I think it is kinda irresponsible to say to just remove and block somebody who may not even know that they are doing this. As much as our patience is wearing thin on this, you strive to educate people about MW, the same really needs to be applied to Scam and Rogue applications on FB. Knowledge is power and unfortunately most people don't have the common sense that God gave a gnat when it comes to scams. At the very least, I would advise people to attempt contact of the friend who is tagging and give them the heads up prior to removal and blocking.

  4. There is a place in your privacy settings to disable facebook from suggesting you to be tagged in your friends uploaded pics that look like you. and thats how these sites have found a way to send these as facebook notifications.

  5. Thanks for sharing Jennifer! :) LeT has been working hard on this and I have the honor of being the host of his hard work. I'm updating at least once a day as he and a couple other of our mutual mafia find new rogue apps. I've seen at least 10 copy notes so far but this one is the only one that is being actively updated. If we max out the FB note character limit we'll start a second note and link them together.
