Mafia Wars Collectors Notes

Tom Kotinsky is one of my mafia members and before he played Mafia Wars, he was really into Vampire Wars. He has a blog about Vampire Wars (1) but got hooked on Mafia Wars and focused on the collecting aspect of it. Below you will find one of his notes that many collectors will thoroughly enjoy. It was great reading this note as it provides a detailed history of many of the loot items that we love and hate. The four categories that Tom covers are loot items that encountered errors or glitches, items that were cancelled, items that were changed and items that haven't been released. Tom did a wonderful job and I'm honored that he is allowing me to post it on my blog. Thanks goes to Mike Nestor for helping format the note so it could be posted here.

ITEMS ERRORS/GLITCHES

Manhattan Ball Drop

MBD was introduced on December 2009 in Limited Time Job:Last Score of 2009 event.

It was a glitch on Last Score of 2009 jobs where you can do the jobs without having the count down before doing another jobs. So many users could collect huge amount of this item and levelling fast in just minutes using the glitch and after several hours become a very high level player.

Whaambulance

Whaambulance was introduced on November 2009 in Limited Time:$10,000 event.

On November 2009 Zynga performed a feature rollback. This loot went missing as a result of that rollback. Zynga returned this item to the user's profile pages.

Corkscrew

Corkscrew was introduced on December 2009 in Limited Time Job:Last Score of 2009. This loot went missing from our accounts on January 2010.

Drakon

There was a Drakon glitch on February 2010. You could get The Drakon from "Asking help" application.

Zynga changed the name from The Drakon in 2010.

Bangkok Mastery Items glitch

There was a Bangkok MI glitch on March 2010. Users could repeat Bangkok jobs and were able to get multiple MI items.

Later Zynga removed all the mastery items you got from the glitch.

Baccarat Shoe

There was a Baccarat Shoe glitch on April 2010. Shoes were dropping instead of Lucky Shamrock Medallion in NY soldier tier. Zynga fixed it and removed shoes from some peoples accounts.

Backdoor

Backdoor was introduced on April 2010 as Tax Evasion Party event.

Many players were able to obtain far more than just one Backdoor, thanks to a bug in the coding. Every time you hit the home tab, you got an extra Backdoor. Within a few days, Zynga started resetting players' multiple Backdoors.

Death Dealer Minigun

DDM was introduced on may 2010 as Gift of the Day event. But we could get this item from Crime Spree’s glitch if we choose Sabotage in Crime Spree request.

Zynga changed the Type from Armor to Weapons on May 2010.

British Officer’s Sword

BOS is an unknow item. Nobody knows where it comes from, but the image is same as Set of Night Vision Goggles item.

Jaws of Life

JoL was introduced on September 2010 on marketplace for 35 rp. Zynga chaged the name to Car Cutter but JoL is still active, because we still have it on the inventory search.

Military Spy Drone

MSP should be in the Vehicles section instead of the Armor section.

Skulker, Aircraft Carrier, Wolf Pack, Water Born Tank

There was a glitch on the Marketplace last year! We could bought the Attack and Defense Bundles at that time with Loyalty Program items. All the items were strong, but very cheap.

Next day Zynga has taken back all items from the Loyalty Program loot glitch and gave 5 Safety First items as compensation.

Big Horn Sheep

BHS was introduced on December 2010 as FrontierVille reward. But the item has same image as Bighorn item from Las Vegas. We could se the right image on the in-game promo picture.

Big Horn Sheep, Giant Octopus, Flambe Torch, Venture Axe, Steel Apron, Bearskin Cloak, Meat Truck, Chisel Plow ATV

On some user’s profile we can see that in-game promo items from Cafe World and FrontierVille are doubled. All items was accidentely released and dropped from upgrading the Private Zoo bonus posted on our walls.

Then when we built one item from the in-game promos, we had a new one with the same name added!

Similar glitch happened few days later.All of these items were from the Holiday event No Crime Like The Present as the presents. They dropped from Mission Take Out Vistola: Part 1 (Loot 8 Wooden Boxes from job). But Zynga removed all items from this glitch.

Pickpocket, Amur Leopard, Tundra Wolf

Both three items were accidentely giftable and we were able to added them to our wishlists.

Zynga later fix this glitch but users have still these items from gifting/wishlist.

Handbasket

Handbasket was introduced on January 2011 in Grave Robbery event. Many players received multiples H during the first day of release. There was a coding error.

Zynga fixed this glitch next day.

Parkour Master

PM was introduced on February 2011 as Atlantic City (Chapter 4) mastery reward.

Many users have more than one item. PM dropped randomly in Atlantic City (CH4) jobs.

INVENTORY ERRORS

Set of Broken Glasses

The name should be Pair not Set like the other items of this group.

Set of Mansion Details

Mansion Details is an item from Moscow, but on the inventory Zynga says that we can use it in Bangkok.

Zynga changed the name from Mansion Details in 2010.

Doctored Invoice

We can find two types of Doctored Invoice (in-game promo consumables) on the inventory.

Brigadier

The Location: Operations on the inventory is wrong. We can get Brigadier in Missions.

Armondo’s Helicopter

Users can receive AH for defeating Dino Armondo in Financial District, Manhattan. Users without Manhattan have AH on their inventories, but did not receive the bonus (200% reduction on your Energy regeneration timer (2x energy regenerated instead of 1).

CANCELLED ITEMS

Pitbull

Pitbull was introduced during the Animals Gone Wild event on Marketplace for 35 rp. Later, Zynga changed the image. Based on the comments from PETA, the Pitbull was replaced by Silverback Gorilla with the same stats.

Bullet-Proof Berkshire

B-P B was obtained by accumulating 20,000 chips in Zynga's Texas Hold 'em Poker game.

Zynga changed the name from Bullet-Proof Bentley to Bullet-Proof Berkshire on August 2009. B-P B recently started dropping by accident when Zynga messed around with URL codes and got them mixed up with one of the boss fight items. Early this year Zynga removed it from the game but we can still have Deadly Bullet-Proof Berkshire in our profiles.

Luxury SUV

Marketplace (25rp) item was changed from Escalade to Luxury SUV. Early this year Zynga removed it from the game but we can still have Supercharged Escalade in our profiles.

Hyro Glove

Zynga introduced HG on May 2010 as a lootable item from the Bangkok Chapter 6 job Bribe A Royal Thai Army Colonel. Shortly after, the loot drop was changed to the Nak Kah Shotgun.

Few weeks later Zynga promoted the HG as a 2nd Generation Gold Treasure Chest item, but did not release it.

Stake Bed Truck

Zynga has removed this item from Las Vegas (now giftable).

Heavy Padded Armor (41 A / 78 D)

Zynga introduced HPA on November 2010 as Marketplace item with different costs. It appears that this was a test item for Zynga to see how much people are willing to spend on a virtual item. Zynga has removed this item from the game.

Mr. Hot Sauce

MHS (boost) was replaced by the A19 Riot Shield (boost).

Love Tap

Love Tap was accidentely released on February 2, 2011 in Robbing. The next day it was removed from drop lists and removed from the inventory. We can still have them on our profiles but not in the inventory.

Zynga changed the name from Pain & Suffering on April 2010.

Zynga changed the name from Lobo Jeep on August 2009.

Grape Vine Bus

Zynga changed the color and name of GVB and released Lockdown item.

Gray Fox

The Sub-type of GF should be Feline or Canine like the other animals of this group.

Great Gray Owl

Zynga changed the Type from Armor to Animal on June 2010.

CHANGES

Harbinger

Zynga changed the stats from A 255 / D 220 to A 280 / D 220 on January 2011.

Penalty Kick

Zynga changed the stats from A 107 / D 54 to A 110 / D 59 on July 2010.

String of Firecrackers

Zynga changed the stats from A 28 / D 36 to A 33 / D 46 on March 2010.

Waffle Iron

Zynga changed the stats from A 22 / D 38 to A 14 / D 38 on December 2009.

Reinhardt and Otto

Zynga changed the image on August 2010.

White Shturmovik / Shturmovik

Zynga changed the name from Shturmovik to White Shturmovik on March 2010.

Many people believe the picture of the Shturmovik was changed due the resemblance to the Arctic Camo Suit.
