I wasn't even going to take the time to address this one because by now most of you should recognize an unfounded rumor when you see one. Unfortunately, a lot of Mafia Wars players can't resist that share button and now this is all over the news feeds and in my inbox way too many times. Lets take a look and break it down a little. I highlighted the parts that should clue you in on why there is no validity to this. First of all, Zynga has a Security Team and they would be the ones to do this type of thing. If all the programmers and coders (which happen to be the same thing) were busy "scanning the servers" and terminating accounts, who would be doing the programming job? At least they would be getting overtime pay so good for them! If somebody has to say "This is not a hoax" more than once, odds are it probably is. I don't know what kind of sick individual enjoys starting rumors to cause panic in a community but whoever started this fits the bill. I'm sure the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders has something in there that describes this type of behavior. Or maybe this is like that telephone game we played as kids and what was really said gets passed around and changed so much that it's not the same in the end. One more thing to note is the so called "reliable sources" are not listed. A reference would be nice so I can see where this info came from. No such luck here but too many Mafia Wars players think this is something worth spreading all over town.
If you're looking for me to tell you that script use is ok, it's not according to Zynga's Terms of Service. Could this change in the future? I don't know. Has anyone lost their account for using scripts that only do what the game intends and what a player could normally do in a day? Nothing has been documented on this so far. Many lose their Facebook accounts for all kinds of reasons and claim it was because they happened to use the Chucker on that same day. If you ever lost your Mafia Wars account, you would still have access to your Facebook account as they are two separate entities. Rule of thumb is not to abuse scripts. Use them to help you play the game as you normally would and use scripts from reputable script writers. This is the risk we take. Many players including myself wouldn't (couldn't) play the game without them. It is known that there are loot cloning scripts still in existence and I wouldn't be surprised if Zynga terminated accounts that showed evidence of using these. One doesn't just happen to get 501 of all the rare Operations loot without doing thousands upon thousands of Operations. The fact that loot service providers are selling these in bulk is proof that the scripts still exist. I always wondered why they chose to make Operations loot giftable. Maybe we have our answer. Until there is something official, please don't copy my theory and post it all over the news feeds. And please oh please stop sharing the post shown above! (1) and factored the number of daily players with alternate accounts, you could assume the number of daily players is getting kind of low compared to what it used to be. It is estimated that well over 1 million players use scripts everyday. What would happen to the graph below if all those players lost their accounts or stopped playing?

Yeah Anonymous #1 a bold statement like that should at least be signed. According to you, Switch,Chucker,Item Analyzers and Exp/Ene are all bad. Have fun staying interested and engaged in the game without these.

I'd imagine the biggest credit card players use scripts. There's no way Zynga would bit the hand that feeds them.
ReplyDeleteIf someone is using scripts to harrass or otherwise inhibit someone else's gameplay, I say throw the book at them. But like you said, most of us use them to be more efficient with our normal gameplay. I'd hate to see a witch hunt.

ReplyDeleteZynga is a business, period. They are concerned with Advertising revenue and selling RP's. If someone cuts into their ability to make money they will be shut down. If their money stream is going somewhere besides them they will do something...
ReplyDeleteThey sell advertising based on demographics and the number of players and the amount of time spent on their site. If scripts and tools make you stay longer, then they are going to turn their head to them.
with that said, dont buy or sell items or pay for anything related to the game except through Zynga.
It's a constant wonder when I see these types of posts, I attribute it to the SHEEP factor.

ReplyDeleteI think useful bookmarklets like brawler, chucker, etc should be officially authorized by zynga. for example, a high level player has +7000 stamina. will he/she burns it all by clicks?! of course not.

ReplyDeleteI was told that searches in Facebook for items is OK...that it is a part of Facebook. That Zynga does not like it..but they have no control over Facebook.
ReplyDeleteMy acc. rolled back a couple of hours i had 10 missions in the bag, then all gone! And now they're all back??? I'd say you stand more chance losing your fb acc. for Zynga spam than your mw acc. for using brawler/chuka/switch!

Me thinks Zynga has an eye on the bookmarklets and implements what they see fit. For example Chucker and multigifting - would Zynga implement it if there would be no Chucker? Maybe yes, maybe no, only Zynga knows the truth.

ReplyDeleteIn Status and Comments (Status has limit like 400 letters) it is best me thinks because everybody could see that if you have the proper wall settings. Only people knowing about you and your notes will come into your notes, no "passers-by" there and thus no extra items back from them.

ReplyDeleteI am a script user. i use link-a-nator, stream helper, chucker, brawler to make my life easier. we all know we use scripts with our disclaimer. but if there is no such bm exists, i'm out of the game. PERIOD.

I believe there should be two classifications of scripts,
ReplyDelete1st, Player scripts such as Bag Mugger or a better example Brawler which the intent is to continually fight which cost Stamina, which cost RP's, which cost Real Money, and Make Zynga profit.
2nd, Cheater Scripts, which allow the gaining of items and RP's, and Points etc... with out Gaining the equal value in experience.
it is one thing to purchase your stuff and use a script to help you spend it faster, it is another to find away to steal for profit.
Just a thought,......

Wow what a lot or rumor and innuendo, first on the discussion of scripts. A script is a java based program that "MIMICS" user actions on your computer. A script can do nothing more than a person playing the game has the ability to do, now the scripts like Stream Helper can be set to run while the user is sleeping so there is a slight advantage to using scripts in that U can spend more time actively pursuing the game whether sleeping or not ............
ReplyDeleteWhen U folks say UR accounts have been rolled back, could someone please define that phrase and what it means?? I have had my account reset the NY properties today so that I could collect more of the cross promotional loot, but would think this is just another Zynga uuuuuuoooooohhhhh ........ the resetting of my account seems to aid me rather than being a punishment for running a script earlier. Besides my sweet little wifes account was reset the same way and she would not know a script if it bit her on the a$$ ........ so please folks do not attribute Zynga's bad coding and operating practices as being a retribution for script use. Besides Zynga's servers are notoriously overloaded and bogged at this point, where would all this computational power come from to analyze millions of active accounts.
If you would just think "Zynga <3 Money" and then think "What would Zynga do?" it will lead you to the correct conclusion every time.

I have players all over my mafia, myself included, currently uffering from a 12 hou or so 'roll back' - for me this means about 3 levels. It has come and gone 3 times so far so I think it will come back eventually. In the meantime I cant play cos dont kno where i am in my level with exp, energy and stam....

While we are not in a habit of going on a witch hunt, because we want people to play and enjoy the game, we do take steps to actively discourage and impede the use of scripts that decrease the value of the playing experience.
Any script that can be utilized for bullying or "sitting" on a player, we include in this category.
