Blocking Facebook Scam Applications

Share:

Another phishing application is going around the new feeds.  This one is called "Who Deleted Ya?".  This one probably won't entice Mafia Wars players because we get deleted all the time and really don't care too much about it.  According to John Sweeney Jr.(1), this is an application that is after your e-mail.  With any of these applications that aren't legitimate, simply click on the name of the Facebook page that generated the post.
You will be directed to the page, in this case the Who Deleted Ya? fan page.
There are 2 things you can do now. One is to block the application and you will never see it again.

The second thing you can do is to report the application in hopes that Facebook will remove it.
The format for reporting these things to Facebook has changed and it's quite a process now.

Remember these rules apply to all phishing schemes and you should get in the habit of removing them as soon as you see one.  The rule of thumb on Facebook is if it's too good to be true, it's probably a scam!

Can I know who’s viewing my profile or how often it’s being viewed?
No, Facebook does not provide the ability to track who is viewing your profile, or parts of your profile, such as your photos. Applications by outside developers cannot provide this functionality, either. Applications that claim to give you this ability will be removed from Facebook for violating policy. You can report applications that provide untrustworthy experiences by clicking the "Report Application" at the bottom of the application’s About page, or by clicking "Report" at the bottom of any canvas page within the application.

  2. Although Jennifer mentions it, I must insist on you to report these applications for the better good.
