It all started on September 14th when John Sweeney Jr. posted an article for the Tampa Social Media Examiner. We all got to see a softer side of him as he described meeting and falling in love with his then fiance Joanne Doane.
Before the actual wedding took place on September 17th, John and Joanne exchanged vows, Mafia Wars style, on the Evil Ed Podcast. I was lucky to be there and be part of it. To listen to all of the fun, click HERE.
The Mafia Wars community embraced John and Joanne's story and soon after it was everywhere. Zynga was so impressed that they posted it on the Mafia Wars Fan Page.
And the Mafia War Blog in an article titled a A Match Made in Mafia Heaven.
Other big news sources wrote about them too. All Facebook posted an article titled Couple Meets In Mafia Wars, Gets Married.
And Games.com wrote A Mafia Wars Wedding and interviewed John and Joanne.
Upon reading the many comments left by others, you can see that John and Joanne inspired the many others who have also met through social gaming to tell their stories. If you do meet somebody who makes you happy, it's not crazy. Whether it's a love interest or a friendship, the bonds we all make while playing Mafia Wars are real. John and Joanne are proof of this. John said that he and Joanne were very humbled by all the support from the Mafia Wars community and thank everyone. I asked him what it was like to be married to his Mafia Wars love and I could tell he was very happy.

ReplyDeletePersonally I thought it was really tacky... but to each their own.
ReplyDeleteI will address this, "Anonymous". In a world full of hurt, pain, deceit, lies, coercion, and backstabbing, I will look at the positive in you, and in this, and take this as a complement. Because, and obviously you weren't there to share in our moment of commitment, I'm glad you saw fit to pass judgement. BUT, to ME, and everyone else who witnessed it from the MW community, there was not a dry eye in the house. We married without question nor commentary from anyone else, why should YOU be so different?//Joanne Sweeney
ReplyDeleteThat was very nice Joanne. It's always the ones who have nothing but negative things to say that are too cowardly to sign their names and hide behind the anonymous sign in. Fortunately the ones who matter appreciate everything you and John do and felt your story was very touching and gave hope and inspiration to many people.
