Earlier this month, I wrote about an article which claimed that Mafia Wars was going to be made into a movie. To read the article and the parodies I wrote about it click HERE.
The concept was so silly that I had trouble believing it. I found another article on MovieViral.com which addresses the rumors flying around the internet about The Mafia Wars Movie. This one is much more believable.
Facebook Game ‘Mafia Wars’ Not Being Made Into Film Despite Rumors
On June - 29 - 2010
One of the more popular games on Facebook is called “Mafia Wars.” Sounds fun and exciting, right? Not so much. It’s one of those Facebook games where you accumulate rewards for completing tasks that you don’t actually do (see the G.I. Joe game). Now the game is being developed into a film, or is it?
Pajiba originally broke the story yesterday that producer Ted Field and Radar Pictures are developing the project with Mafia Wars publisher Zynga, though no other real details were available. However, now Inside Social Games is now reporting that Zynga (who also make the inexplicably popular Farmville game) has confirmed the rumor is false. The original source of the false rumor is unknown.
The news of the possible Mafia Wars movie spread like wildfire on the Internet, but much of the talk was negative. This of course begs the question of whether a film will ever be made of this or any other Facebook game. Given the simplicity and banality of most of them, I hope not.
Zynga should promote/support other mafia movies just like they did to Public enemy. Sad, they not promote american gangster movie.
