PlayerScripts.com and Script Rumors

Share:

I find it ridiculous that my newsfeeds are plastered with posts advising me not to use scripts of any kind.  None of these posts are fact based and I'm surprised by how many blindly click the "share" button.  If all these rumors are true and I have to live in fear of having my account disabled then tell me (and all my accounts) to pack it up and stop playing Mafia Wars altogether.  Lets be real here, Mafia Wars is a game and there are many others out there to play.  Zynga knows this and it would not be in their best interest to scare us all into thinking we have to play the game in the same manner as a monkey would and click until we develop a bad case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  Maybe if they wouldn't require so many clicks, players wouldn't feel the need to use scripts.  My favorite aspect of the game is collecting and trading loot.  Without scripts, this task would become too much work and I and many others in both the trading and script community would stop playing.  Since most of us have multiple accounts, this would greatly impact Zyngas bottom line.  The advertisers pay Zynga according to the number of active players.  If Zynga doesn't realize this and decides to shut down a large number of accounts then I will utilize my right to freedom of speech and let Zynga know they made a grave error in judgement with an old fashioned public "I told you so."  Using scripts is a personal choice and you should be informed and have access to all the available information before making your decision.  Review my article titled Script Use and Zynga/Facebook TOS to learn more about this issue.
Because this is such a hot topic right now, I went to http://www.playerscripts.com/ the home of a super script, The Mafia Wars Auto Player (MWAP) and asked the admin to comment on these rumors.
"We believe that the latest hype about Zynga hunting down and banning script users is a complete waste of effort, if it's even true. It would be very hard for Z to hunt down and ban people using any sort of script and in the case of MWAP - why bother? All MWAP does is emulate your clicking, it uses no links or clever trickery, just to automate your game, there is no way to tell between a 'clicker' (normal mw user) and an MWAP'er. PlayerScripts.com is also against any form of database injection methods, or any other form of technical hacking, as this could easily lead to a ban and/or other action."/KC, Main Moderator of PlayerScript.com

Visit this site to stay informed.  They will be the first to let us know if any accounts are banned for script use.  I'm pasting the introduction of this great site to my article because it nicely sums up what PlayerScripts.com is all about and has thought provoking descriptions about script use.  Even if you decide not to use scripts, PlayerScripts.com is still a valuable source of accurate and up-to-date information and should not be ignored.

"Playerscripts.com is a site created by a few volunteers with the aim of sharing our experiences with the automation of gaming, primarily on social networking site  This site exists because the game developers seem to get a bit miffed when we try to discuss these things on their sites, so this is a site for the dispossessed, those who see the line drawn in the sand and give it a joyful lick as they cross"

You really like clicking buttons?

Playerscripts Because I have better things to doThis site is for those who’d rather have a cup of tea and a biscuit instead of watching a timer slowly count the seconds until they're next allowed to click a button.
We all love the games and the play, we just hate the boring bits and want someone, or something to do those bits for us.
So we look at autoplayers, scripts, bookmarklets etc. to relieve the tedium that the game developers force upon us, while allowing us the opportunity to enjoy the parts we like, the interesting bits, the parts where we see results, the social interaction which many games promise, but so few deliver.

Do we cheat?

Right here, right now, we want to talk about and enjoy these games, not just click spammed wall posts. Some may call us cheats, but most of us do play these games, we just don't want to do the boring bits.
Cheating would be gaining an unfair advantage over other players, the tools we use don't do anything anyone else couldn't do so we contest that accusation. We use tools available to all, and occasionally manipulate code on our own computers, we do not hack.
Would you call someone a cheat for driving rather than walking? Surely not...yet the driver has automated the journey in much the same way as we automate the boring bits. Anyone who considers automation to be cheating ought to start rubbing 2 sticks together next time they want to cook something.

We don't develop

Playerscripts Because I have better things to doWe have absolutely no involvement whatsoever in the development of any type of bot/script/macro/code/bookmarklet/ or anything else you can think of that someone may take issue with, but we will and have the freedom of speech to report on their development and use.
We will freely discuss with our users anything to do with these tools, and the developers of such tools are free and encouraged to discuss their tools on these forums, some may even offer support for their tools here, if you have a bright idea they may even incorporate it into a later release.
Some, but not all, game developers hate us because we encourage people to play their way to success in the games, rather than buying success, sadly the world is full of greedy people and we're unable to change that, but one theme that does seem to repeat is that the developers change things to stop automation, rather than concentrating on making the games involving enough for people to want to play more.

One day

Hopefully one day they’ll get it right, and create games that are more involving, that encourage people to interact with each other on a more personal level, until then, you have us to press the buttons for you, again, and again, and again……

They did have it right at one point. There was a golden age of Mafia Wars when it was a perfect balance between human interacting with human and just enough of the game to keep people playing. The monotony began with the wishlist and lotto. I believe this is when Zynga's greed started to take hold and mouse clicks became dollar signs. There are many other aspects of fundamental changes to gameplay that made me make the leap to the autoplayer but zynga's absurd but blatantly amateurish obsession with gaining more and more of my time was the primary one. They aren't even about the romance before they try to screw us players.

Here is an article that I found interesting. http://www.cracked.com/article_18461_5-creepy-ways-video-games-are-trying-to-get-you-addicted.html
