Creating a Tiny URL

With all the problems involving links, it's a good time to discuss tiny URL's.  These can be good and bad.  They are great to use in the "Write something about yourself" box on your profile page because there is a limited amount of space and some of our Mafia Wars URL's can be quite long.  They are not so great when they are randomly posted throughout your news feeds by friends you may or may not know.
Remember, Harry The Hacker, Sammy The Spammer, and Freddy The Phisher are probably 3 of your many Facebook Friends.  They gain access to your friends list by misrepresenting who they are.  That super hot chick with double D's, a bikini and a level 2,000 may not actually be real.  You may have been really excited that "she" sent you a friend request but it's time to learn the truth.  This is just Freddy doing his thing.  Don't feel bad, I added many profiles like this when I first started playing. 
Because you accepted "her" as your friend, Freddy now has free rein to post whatever he likes to your news feeds.  He can now post links claiming they are for mystery bags, reward points, or sexy videos of "himself".  What makes this even worse is he can make these posts from your friends accounts.  Your not so informed buddy may have anxiously clicked on a link to see some hot beach babes in action and now you will see him posting a link for this video even though he never did.  Just be careful when you click on a link.  I prefer to see the words in the links I click but that is not always possible.  With the current link issues going on with Facebook and Mafia Wars, many are using the short term fix of creating a tiny URL.  I don't like this solution but for now there aren't many options.  Hopefully the link issues will soon be resolved.
If you want to create a tiny URL for your Mafia Wars Profile Link (the one in green from your Mafia Wars Profile Page), follow these steps.
1.  Go to one of the many short URL generating pages.  I will use www.tinyurl.com as an example.  Scroll half way down the page and read the instructions on installing the tiny url generator to your browser tool bar.  You don't need to do this and can just go to the site anytime you want to create a tiny URL but installing the bookmark will save you a few steps.

2.  Now go to any page you want to make a tiny url for and click once on your new bookmark.  You can also go directly to the page and copy and paste your link into the tiny url generator and click on "Make TinyURL!".   I'll use this blog site as an example.

3.  Copy your new link and save it somewhere for future use.  This sites tiny url is http://tinyurl.com/2ee9ooh.  Try it out, it works!!!
