Mafia Wars Metrics

Share:

Metrics Monk is the site that tracks metrics of Facebook applications and is what we have been using for quite some time [1]. Lately it goes down for long periods of time so it hasn't been easy to catch how Mafia Wars is doing. The week long strike by the fighters was from Sept 14 - Sept 21 and it was an unfortunate time to have a strike because the metrics were no where to be found [1]. Today they are finally back up and we can now see the impact. The user numbers went down by a couple thousand but today they are down by about 4,000. We can probably all agree that these numbers probably aren't very accurate but they are useful for comparisons and changes (good or bad) in the game often create spikes. The state of the game right now, boring events going and lack of interest, are probably the cause of the current decline. Many of the fighters who were on strike stayed on strike and today we have fewer players than we did a month ago. Zynga needs to do something to make the game a little more enjoyable to even hope the numbers go up. These are the lowest they have been and without change most would predict further declines as time goes by.

  2. I hope the goddamned game shuts down within the month. Every change they have made for the past couple of years has been bad. They have been told the changes were bad, but they don't seem to care. They have also been repeatedly told about event overwhelm, yet they keep stack releasing them, and then blaming fighting on the server problems. As for the metrics, yy guess is people finally understand that zynga is choosing to ignore the feedback and complaints, and carnage is definitely permanent, so players are deciding to leave the game, rather than piddle around with it, hoping that zynga will listen.

  3. Wars, drive-byes etc. are just fight a few minutes and wait to level. I worked hard to build a fighter that I could fight all day. For what? Nothing that's what. Cancelled VIP as I can't hardly fight anymore. What's the point? Shut er down for all I care. All you energy/self-levelling people have at it. This is no longer a fighting game. I've been logging on FB and watching my feed. Levelled maybe 4 times since this so called improvements started. It's obvious Zynga could care less. It's obvious that by all the loading issues I still have that their new fighting hasn't improved anything. Buh bye Zynga I hope you tank and just like them I DON'T CARE!!!

  4. Carnage destroyed the game for good...why don't you tell the truth? Boring? When you die in less than 10 seconds...who wants to play?

  5. Lol, Zynga needs to do something to make this game enjoyable?? Hmm... so up until now they have been holding back, making the game living hell on purpose? Just to see how low the metrics would go?? Look, if Zynga cares an ounce about this game and its players, the metrics wouldn't BE this bad... the metrics reflect the company. If the company suck (like Zynga) the metrics will tell you that. Only problem here is... Zynga doesn't care about the game anymore... they lost their passion and love for the game (probably about the time they lost the battle to scripts) I don't blame them... but why let it go on? Shut it down, focus on something new and move on... continuing to have a sub-par game just to squeeze money out of long-term loyal players (who are getting screwed like no-one would believe it) is NOT the right way... but, that brings me back to the KEY issue... Zynga doesn't care anymore... the costs for keeping it running is probably zero... and as long as people stay subscribed - they are making money... the events are nothing more than copy/paste events now.... that couldn't cost much... Zynga just doesn't know when to quit... and the only ones who are being screwed are the VIP members.... I mean, look at the "so-called" benefits, haha... and Zynga wonders why no-one signs up and why people are cancelling, haha... if they cared, they would KNOW and then they would do something about it...

... my advice... shut the game down on January 1st 2016 and from Decemeber 1st through December 31st, cancel ALL costs of the game (no RPs, no energy, No stamina no nothing) and let everyone go out with a blast ;) And bring back all the cancelled destinations... one month of pure madness... where everything is free! Then after the game shuts down... THIS month will be what everyone remembers...and not all the crap we are dealing with now

  6. I've been playing since Cuba opened... no scripts (this is not a script-bashing post), and my solo stats aren't huge. 23k energy, 9k stam, 10k health. Level 58xx. All I see on the fight board now seem to be auto-levelers (level 20k+) with huge amounts of health. No way in hell can I even touch them, let alone get 150 ices per day. I finished all of the destinations, but when Mexico hit, there was no way I could stay alive long enough to knock out the bandit-things AND keep up with the daily progression. So, I ignored Mexico (and now I ignore LA). I'm in a family of 125 with FOUR weekly active members, none of whom can meet the daily prog numbers (when did most of the family leave? May thru July of this year).

Since the 'strike' in September, I have found that I don't go back into the game more than once a week, and that is just to see if classic fighting has returned. Not this week? OK, I'll sit here until I'm killed and then close the game.... and then check in next week....(repeat....).

Too many events, to many properties, too many changes to keep the big fish happy. :(

  8. Fight Carnage will go down as the final nail in the MW coffin.
All that is wrong with it has already been said in here over and over so no need to repeat how it has finally managed to kill a struggling game.

  9. I've been on strike since September 14th and watch the boards to see if Zynga finally comes to their senses and removes carnage.
Those of us who can't compete with carnage will have become arena babies. That's not what I started playing this game for.
I play for the drive-by's, free-for-all's, etc but carnage has stopped that. Yes, there are some of you who have no problems carnage but there are a great many that do, including myself. Please don't talk to me about being able to self level because I used to be able to before carnage and now can't.
We've all built our accounts according to the way we like to play and unfortunately, there are some of us that can't afford to put money in the game and can't play 24/7 like most of of the people that condemn us for striking and as they put it, "whining" about carnage. If we can't play, we can't play and to build our accounts in a different direction will take more time than is worth the effort.
On another note, one of the bigger players told me that the low to mid-range fighters, like myself, are needed for the game. Wouldn't it be a disaster if Zynga kept up this mess and we all quit? What would you guys do then? As it is, a new player doesn't stand a chance and any that start to play the game now will quit shortly after starting.

    1. I once mentioned to someone with a giant account who said Carage is fine, Demon deals with it all, "what will you do when the people that ARE affected by Carnage give up and quit? you will have no one left to pick on and play with and worse Zynga might shut the game down completely. You might then be sorry you called us whiners."

  10. I played for many years (Before Cuba), had logged over 600+days straight login for awhile, but gave the game up a a few months back (loading issues mainly). but the endless timed events, begging, and insane requirements for doing jobs, etc.. Made the game a chore, nothing else. I guess more out of playing it for so long, I come back here to see whats going on with it, but really have no desires to log in to even bother. They should have listened to the players all these years.

  11. tonight's changes may break them if it doesn't make them. I can only imagine how much they can change with a two hour maintenance window, so hopefully (as a player) they are using it to fix things...

  12. I firmly believe striking is shooting yourselves in the collective foot. What company is going to put any effort into a game in which players don't care to play and can walk away? If you want the game to continue on, play. If you want improvements, play. If you want features, play. if you really want it to go on spend a few bucks here and there. It's entertainment, just like movies, dining out, sports, hobbies, etc. Want good? you have to take the bad. Since when have you been able personally to please everyone? Never. Neither can Zynga. Play what you enjoy and don't play what you don't enjoy. Change it up, go from fighting to leveling or vice versa, set goals. If you don't like the game anymore, leave. Life is short, find something else to enjoy. The world is filled with amazing things to do EVERYWHERE 24/7 365 and thousands of things for everyone. It's not hard to enjoy life, unless your goal is not to.

  14. I would really like to hear Zynga's business case for keeping Mafia Wars in production. For the sake of the players my hope is the game is sold to a host that has it's act togther

  16. I quit right before the strike and do not miss this miserable game at all! I check Jen's blog every couple of weeks to see if there is news about more Zynga closures. Everyone is correct....Fight Carnage ended Mafia Wars for good. Watch 80K daily users decrease 10K each month until no one is left.
