Trevor Fougere has been monitoring loot scores for the past 9 months and has graphed scores versus time. It’s interesting to see how fast loot becomes obsolete and any player who thinks about purchasing loot should review this chart. Back in the day many players used to spend money on loot because it would last a while. Zynga has made many mistakes and there are many factors contributing to declining revenue but this may be one of their biggest ones [1]. The pace of loot refreshes changed the overall attitudes towards loot and most likely has cost Zynga a lot of money and possibly players as well. The little blip which Trevor calls the ‘Cheater Loot Bump’ is the result of the Daily Shuffle glitch from about 6 months ago [1].

Loot Inflation

Is there a corresponding graph showing the decline in players?
ReplyDeleteIf you Google for Mafia Wars DAU (which stands for Daily Average Users) you can get the info you are after
DeleteI used to love the trading aspect of the game. Now I pay little to no attention to the loot as it's quickly meaningless as you elude to. I just play the way I enjoy and really don't pay much attention to any event unless it's family oriented. Ice events, secret districts and the like are gained nearly without effort and through regular game play if you have been building an account with good energy and stamina. Smaller players and families I really feel for as the game seems to cater to only bigger accounts that have been around a few years. The casual player is left in the middle of a dark alley on the remote outskirts of the seedy parts of Las Vegas, which no longer exists in the game. A new player (given they exist anymore) must be quickly overwhelmed and loses interest with the daunting amount of tasks. ~Lonnie
ReplyDeleteYou folks are really OCD who caressssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss it's a dumb ass stupid game that almost everybody cheats
ReplyDeleteWith that opinion I'm really surprised that you even looked at this page, much less posted your comment here....on a MW blog. Perhaps you care more than you like to admit.
DeleteI wonder if loot inflation is what keeps some players in the game versus chasing them out. Zynga may want to poll on that, but of course it's the 'why' of the quitters they need to know most.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lonnie - people ask me about playing Mafia Wars and I always have to say it's too late to start now. That is really sad, because one of the fun things was helping new players out with loot, that you could gift and/or trade. Maybe Zynga should put a think tank together and figure out how to remedy that situation.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I still like playing, but that is mostly due the great family I'm in and you all. Some of us go back about 5 years - unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteGame died 2 - 3 years back.
