It might seem like a good thing to have a Halloween Event and a new collection but if you remember anything about the Easter Eggselence, Stars & Strips and Thanksgiving Feast Collection event you may not be so excited. These events are a pain in the ass, especially so for players with large stamina pools. For the next 10 days we will be on a Dark Lantern safari and the drop rates are based on your total energy and stamina pools. Many players will report that the consumables won’t drop from robbing and those with high stamina pools will need to rob for many hours a day to get them all. The more stamina you have the less frequently Dark Lanterns will drop. The timer adds to the confusion of this event because it’s 12 days but the last 2 are for redeeming purposes only. The begging aspect also causes issues because of the way the timer works and it doesn’t help that there will be a time change during the event. The details for the Halloween Horror event and the Heebie-Jeebies Collection are shown below.

The help mark provides instructions as well as a tracker. We will be in Pacific Standard Time when the event expires but the instructions refer to Pacific Daylight Time. This may also cause confusion at the end.

The consumable for this event is the Dark Lantern. Collect them daily by doing the following actions…..

Jobs: 35

Dark Lanterns drop better in higher energy jobs but you can still get them in the low energy New York jobs.

Fights: 25

The 5X bonus for attacking players in the same destination does not apply. Script data logs may not be accurate and will show more than you actually earn because loot drops will be multiplied by 5. 

Robbing: 25

The Scout Crew Bonus does not apply. If you have a lot of stamina this task is going to take a lot of time. One of my alternate accounts only has very low stamina and as you can see the drop rate is pretty good.

My main account has about 130,000 stamina and it takes over 8,000 stamina just to get one. I have the stamina but I sure don’t have the time. After all these years robbing is still painfully slow.

Arena: 35

The number of Dark Lanterns rewarded is based off the amount of stamina used and not performance. Dark Lanterns drop in both Shootout and Mob Fury Arenas.

Feeds: 45 (30 Asking and 15 Helping)

You can ask for Dark Lanterns by using the “Ask” button on the home page banner. You are able to ask once every 8 hours. Each request will yield 10 Dark Lanterns so in theory you can earn a maximum of 30 per day. The ask timer does not reset at midnight so you should pick a time which will allow you to make at least 3 requests per day.

When your mafia members click on your request, they will get a Dark Lantern as well. You can only get 15 every 24 hours. If you have reached the limit, your request will say "you have reached the limit for collecting it today". The reset time is at 12am so you will need to wait until then to get 15 more for helping. There is no limit on how many players you can help but it is very difficult to find live requests. The number of Dark Lanterns per request is limited so we will need to deal with the “The maximum amount of players have already collected from this feed.” bullshit like we always do.

Gifting: 10

Dark Lanterns can be found on the Free Gift page. Send a few to your mafia members and get them in return. Once you have hit the limit of 10, they are converted to Blue Mystery Bags and they won’t count towards Family Progression. Since you can only accept 10, it may not be a good idea to Gift Blast these. If you reach your gift cap of 250 for the day before you collect 10 Dark Lanterns, you won't be able to collect the maximum. Make sure you collect these first.

The total number of Dark Lanterns you own is displayed on the banner. Of course you can always purchase more for reward points if you so desire. You can get 3 of them for 1 reward point. If you purchase 100 at a time, you will get a slight discount.

For better and easier tracking than what Zynga provides, use the Where’s My Lantern Spocklet. This works the same as Where’s My Egg but it now has a generic name in the search bar so it can be autoupdated. To launch, type any part of Where’s My Stuff’ into the search bar.

The 4 loot items you can craft with Dark Lanterns are shown below. You are allowed to craft a total of 3 items each.

Once you have collected enough Dark Lanterns to redeem a loot item, click on the “Go Redeem” button.

Click the button to get the item. Each item requires a different number of Dark Lanterns. In order to build the 2nd item, the first one needs to be built first and so on and so forth. Once you collect your item, progress for the next item resets.

You need to build the items in order. Once you collect the first item and collect 125 Dark Lanterns, you can build the second item. If you choose to build all 3 of the 1st items first you can do that too. 

The maximum number of Dark Lanterns you can acquire per day and for the event are shown below. They will only be available for the first 10 days of the event. The last 2 days are for redeeming or purchasing Dark Lanterns. It’s possible to collect a total of 1,750 parts.

To build 3 each of the 4 loot items you will need a total of 1,725 Dark Lanterns so if you want all the maximum number of loot items you can’t miss a day. If you only want the vault the collection than you only need 1,050 items and can miss collecting 700 Dark Lanterns. Many choose to do this as the loot isn’t worth the efforts.

There is a collection associated with this event called the Heebie-Jeebies Collection. The collection can be found via the Inventory Tab-->Collections & Vaults-->Special pathway. To make it easier, Zynga added a link to the home page banner under the reward.  You get 1 item for every 150 Dark Lanterns you collect.

If you are doing actions manually or your script doesn’t block popups, you will get one once you have earned an item. If you don’t care about the loot items shown above then you only need to worry about getting 1,050 Dark Lanterns.

Here is a closer look at the collection items. Once you vault the collection, you get a Feared Feline. The collection can not be revaulted.
