Will Zynga Disappear in 2015?

Share:

Steve Minch posted an interesting link on our fan page. Yahoo Finance has a list of 10 brands they think will be gone by the end of 2015. What' makes this article a good read is that Zynga is #4. If this is true lets hope someone takes it over so we can still play. Go here to view video and full article.

Zynga can be considered the single greatest social media failure among recent IPOs. The leading provider of games on Facebook has been unable to match the success of Farmville, its first hit. Facebook also ended its relationship with the gaming company in 2012, effectively limiting Zynga's access to the social network’s 1 billion users and making it harder for the company to promote its games.

The company moved slowly into the mobile platform, and after it failed to create big hits of its own, it acquired popular titles such as Draw Something and Words With Friends. But new rivals like King Digital, maker of popular mobile game Candy Crush, continue to crowd the market. Similarly, traditional game companies like Electronic Arts have also begun to migrate their titles to mobile devices, challenging the social gaming company’s position.

The question is whether Zynga has enough demand for its products to support it as an independent public company. The company reported daily active users in the first quarter of 2014 were down nearly 50% to 28 million, compared to 52 million in the first quarter of 2013. Zynga lost $61 million in the first quarter of the year, against a profit of $4 million in the same period a year ago. Since early March, Zynga stock has dropped 45%, which while indicative of its troubles, also makes it a more attractive takeover target.

  4. I'm surprised it still exists. It's remarkable how something so terribly run limps along. Oh wait, I work for the government, it can continue painfully for some time yet. ~Lonnie

  8. Zynga did it to their selves with that VIP, they forced a lot of players to quit the game. By trying to force ppl to subscribe to VIP to keep up in the game they lost a lot of players. Ppl don't like to feel forced into any situation. Also the Kami caps caused a lot of ppl to quit the game so Zynga has brought on their own demise! Greed will always be a downfall!

  10. I can safely say that Zynga's CEO has a real life IQ much lower than the number of years of my life. I'm so old...dirt uses me as a character witness. Zynga's Mafia Wars has been one of my addictions for sometime now. I'm done, outta here...and won't miss MW too much when its gone. What I will miss is Jennifer's MWLL blog and the help she gives to addicts of the game. I'm small fish in a big waterhole....yet I don't begrudge those that have more to spend on this triviality than I can spare from my Social Security check each month. I love diversity, for I love life. But...I know why Zynga will fail. I play this game by the rules I remember reading years ago. MY WORD has been and always will be MY BOND. I only have one fauxbook page to use in the game, so I only have one persona in the game. Shouldn't that be enough....shouldn't playing by the rules be as rewarding to me, as to those that play without regards to the rules? That is why Zynga's MW will soon be history. Yes, yes I know the world ain't perfect, but this game I'm addicted too, ain't much fun lately. I could bore you with the many things that happen when you play the game by the rules...but you know what I'm talking about. Ahhhhhh....Jennifer thanks for making the game more enjoyable to the little fish in the big pond. Whoops gotta go....and have some fun playing WORLD OF TANKS...and thanks Jennifer for suggesting a game that is not interfaced with fauxbook, and one that is fun no matter what you can afford to spend. Please let us know, Jennifer where you will be landing when MW's is no more. Oh? did I forget to mention...that I love you Jennifer??? Can't leave a fauxbook link....and deal with the lowlifes who have nothing better to do than diss, you would show up, but I'll always be thankful for helpful people like you. Web/\elder is outta here.

  11. Perhaps Google will buy out Zynga....only pocket change to them, but they seem to know how to provide free access to fun. I blogged free for years thanks to blogspot. My gmail account is free. And I don't mind an ad or two....

  12. I don't agree. I know more people that stopped playing MW due to the abusers, cheaters and people that sit on others for months and even years. These people are what is killing MW and driving people away. Not sure how people can feel so good about playing a game, that is 99% automated for them. Might as well just stop playing if you have to automate so much to do good.

  13. I don't wanna see mw go either and I think if it does go then some of those players will not use fb as much I know this cuz some of the friends I play mw with have said they wouldn't be on fb as much as they are now. Also if they would quit closing some of their games down that had a lot of players like Cafe World and a few other of their games and quit making some of these stupid games they have came out with they might not be in the trouble they are in.
