Boycott Fail

Share:

There was another 24 hour boycott for Mafia Wars on July 4th and this time around the metrics showed no impact. In fact there were 4,519 more players than there were the day before. Boycotting on weekends or holidays isn’t the smartest way to go because of the random casual player variable. Boycotts in and of themselves are very ineffective to begin with and picking the wrong day can be disastrous. All statistics and images thereof are from Metrics Monk.

  1. Players should realize how Zynga works after 4 years Zynga thinks they can create this game just fine and that players opinions mean nothing. Nothing you do, boycotts , quitting is going to change that. I will play this game as long as I consider it enjoyable, when it fails to be so, I will simply uninstall it and move on. I refuse to get all hot and bothered over something that has little significance in my life. It's just a game....

  2. I know I'm going to get slam for this. But, I never heard of boycotting a free game before. I have no problems with zanga's BS they own the rights to their game. I never spent a penny on MW's and I never will. Do I think it's a great game. NO, it's just a bunch of clicking the mouse. So, If they were charging me, Then I would boycott if I thought I was being screwed, But, free,

    1. Its zynga, not zanga, so dont worry about getting "slammed", I think that lets us all know the value of your opinion. ;-)

    2. I do not believe free players have earned a right to complain. They do not support the product, they have nothing vested. Nothing in this world is free and Zynga's Mafia Wars is no different. On the same token, just because you spend a lot of money, I do not believe your opinion should be given extra weight, An opinion's value is based on it's merit, not the size of the individuals'pocket book who proposed it

    3. Zynga has created a monster by giving free playing players near equal privileges as those who pay, and as a result, some now have a ridiculous sense of entitlement. Players seem to think their rights have been violated in some way, when it actually states in the terms of service Zynga can modify and do whatever the heck they please with their product at any time, and I'm sure it also states they can do it without notice. Until the VIP program, in fact, all players were treated practically equally in the game, with the same access to customer service, same opportunities for loot drops, etc. The only advantage paying players had were in bought skill and market rp loot.

The only players who have a right to complain are those who bought their skill fair and square, and now are having to deal with self made through kami monsters who have paid not a cent for their strength.

People can boycott all they like. They have no voice and it may just give Zynga good cause to expedite the closing of a problematic game. This is likely the only game Zynga has where they have to deal constantly with complaints about not only game play but also abuse and bullying situations, not to mention having to deal continuously with those who try to exploit glitches and bugs. The drain on their development team andcustomer support services for frivolous issues must be costing them more than the game is actually worth.

  3. maybe a one week "no spend" spree would have more effect. No need to stop playing but if enough of those who do spend took part then that may have more effect on zynga's attitude.

  4. I'm a daily player and I didn't even hear there was a boycott. Trying to boycott on a US holiday is probably not the best idea. Everyone is playing on the computer that day because, no work, no school, etc...

    1. I never heard about the boycott and I would not have honored it anyway.... I don't want to do anything to hasten the shutdown of Mafia Wars, because I enjoy it. I do spend money on the game and wish more people would: they have employees who get paid, you know.

    1. It absolutely was a fail most likely because of the day. The dumbass is someone who would look at last year and attribute the decline to a boycott made a year later. All the players who have quit have nothing to do with the boycott. A successful boycott would have shown a numbers drop, this one had a gain. It was a 24 hour boycott so you look at the day before, not the year before, lol. Maybe you should go take a statistics course. Invite the people who chose a holiday as well. It's not really rocket science.
