A few weeks ago, Zynga changed the way players were grouped in the Arena [1]. We never really figured out exactly what was going on but groupings were believed to be by your total available stamina. Many found themselves pitted among much stronger opponents resulting in too many 6th place finishes. This was not a good system and players had difficulties. It was especially noticed yesterday when the Family Inheritance event started. The good news is groupings were reverted to the way they were before and the cyclic hard and easy modes are back. Depending on your account this is either good or bad news. For the majority of players, it’s great news. It will be interesting to see if this change is reflected on the Family Inheritance Leaderboard. nWo has a pretty big lead on the Mafia Wars Gods and the Russians and I suspect the gap will become closer by the end of the day. Thanks to Johan Versteeg and Jack O'norey for pointing this out and to the {ASS} Family for verifying.

well i have almost 100K stamina / 125K combined and doing 500 stamina arenas i found that my first arena after a level up would be moderately difficult and then each one after that would get easier and easier. i had no problem leveling in them but now that things are back to the way they were i am stuck with arenas full of nothing but nwo, blaze, extreme, etc...
ReplyDeleteand i can no longer level in the arenas.
I had started to ignore the arenas after they began messing with groupings and for a short time i was excited and started leveling in them again. now i will probably go back to ignoring them because its not worth it if i can't level. zynga should just quit screwing around and make it so you always get a 2.3 xp ratio regardless of your position. i could really care less what place i finish so long as i get enough xp to keep leveling.
I don't see anything good with any changes. I am grouped with those with 19k respect and several levels above me no matter how many arenas I do and cannot compete with my <20k stamina and 9k respect
ReplyDeleteThey keep shoving the arena down our throats with constant events , daily take and everything else , after playing for years i will be done with mafia wars , i play mafia wars not some game titled ARENA
ReplyDeleteIm just sick and tired of being grouped with hard players.
ReplyDeleteGuess all i can do is cancel my VIP and complain to live chat daily.
I was just in the Arena, talk about BULLSH*T! I went in with full stamina of 6785, yes, believe it or not there are some of use who don't have 15-20-25-30 K in stamina. :)~
ReplyDeleteAnd these were my opponents, obviously I finished dead last!

The stronger I get, the stronger my opponents I fight...more Zynga bullsh*t! And this isn't the first time, now how in the bluest of blue hells do I compete against those with that kind of respect. Exactly, I don't, I simply sit there and get ganged up on and destroyed!
Everyone should be closer to even in respect, make it more fair for everyone...and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way!
+1 sigh
DeleteAlas, I must also be one of those who was adversely affected by this most recent change. I was coming in 1st and 2nd regularly, but now I struggle to even get a 5th place finish. And the scores of most are way beyond what I could obtain.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness it's not just me. I have 2400 respect. I have 9000 stamina. I get lumped with arena players who are way higher than I am. I had to compete in 14 arenas just to get enough damage done to move on in that stupid mission. I used reflectors I had to hide behind so I could get one or two hits in before I got stomped on. I was placed with players who had 8000+ respect in EVERY single arena and of course I came in 6th every time. I hate that arena and stay away with a passion unless forced into it via a mission.
DeleteAnother epic fail by Zynga! Before you could at least use boosts and get away with one strong opponent or even two...now the higher the respect you get placed into a group of only huge accounts so instead of winning 40% I win 5%. And you wonder why the Arena will fail now more than ever?
ReplyDeleteI am grouped with players who have way more respect and stamina than I and I'm whuped and stomped on every game. Before the changes, I could come in at first, second, and third place and level up more often. I won't be going to the arena from now on.
ReplyDeleteThe arena smashup is another hopeless task, with a respect level of 2007 I am constantly pitted against at least 2 players with respect of 30,000 or more. How can Zynga not filter these out?
