Arena junkies and those working on their Highly Respect achievements have been overjoyed the past few days. It’s sad to say that there are 12 hours left of No Fear Arenas. Players who don’t like the fact that they can’t lose Respect are those who need to manipulate the system in order to be grouped more accordingly [1]. All this wouldn’t be necessary if Zynga would group players more evenly or do away with the grouping system. It’s not fun to be in Arena with players who can kill you before you are done clicking on a health refill. Utilizing all of your stamina in a short time is an attraction of the Arena and being unevenly paired makes this impossible for many players. Hopefully Zynga can review things and make improvement so the Arena can be fun for all types of players.
It’s been fun watching those who stressed out over the achievements get there. Thanks to Jorge Esteban Valenzuela Buvinic, who is quite happy today, for the screen shot below.
Because of this extended offering, the ranking system is falsely elevated anyway. Even for the monsters, these numbers are unrealistic. Now that the integrity of the system has been compromised, it would be a good time for Zynga to reevaluate it. Even though I have the achievements, I have enjoyed trying to build my Respect and have set internal goals for myself. I would like to get to 3,000 and it’s been fun trying. What makes this game addicting are the little goals we set for ourselves. Fear of losing Respect has kept many players out of the Arena and has made gaining Respect a less than desirable goal as it’s too frustrating.
I do see the need for losses if there is to be a true rating system but the potential losses should not exceed the potential gains. Lost connections to the Arena can and will happen to all of us. There is no avoiding it. What is frustrating about the current rating system is you lose so much when getting last place. When you don’t lose anything because of this, it’s a much easier pill to swallow. I remember how angry I was when I lost -25 and it really made me hate the game for a few hours. I actually went outside.
"with players who can kill you before you are done clicking on a health refill. " Sad & True. Always been around 1400 and let myself kick to get down again. Then got high respect adds in double digits, thought to go on - now at 1530 and just get 1 or 2 points ....guess i get kicked all the way down again before i can reach 1600
ReplyDeleteI don't like the no fear arenas, yes I did reach 1,600 respect. However I got my ass beat every arena with no chance of going back to my old bracket (between 1,000-1,400) where I can actually stand a chance of first through third place.
ReplyDeleteI usually use the arena to get my 150 ices for the day but I can't do that if 4 big whales are eating me alive.
If Zynga is going to stick with grouping arenas by respect than I'd suggest: 0-500|501-999|1,000-1,300|1,301-1,599|1,600-1,799|1,800-1,999|2,000-2,199|2,200-2,399|2,400-2,999|3,000+
Then the arenas would be a bit more even, instead of a 476 trying to beat a 1,142. Or a 1,607 getting 4 2,500+ absolutely slaughtering them.
The arena'a pretty tough. I have 25K combined A/D, and 6.2K stamina, and just crossed the 1400 level. Getting whupped. Don't remember it being this bad in the shark tank... at least you could make headway. But I don't see the point in continuing to play the arena.
ReplyDeleteI Have 25k A & D (evenly distributed) & 33k Stam - Just got Highly Respected Silver Earned on February 9, 2013 Earned by reaching 2000 Respect in the Shootout Arena - I am really (pleasantly) surprised I got that high. I will be manipulating respect back down ASAP to get a better chance of achieving better ratios. As I have mentioned before & others have mentioned also Zynga need to categorise players into narrow (200 or 300 respect) bands - I can't even attack at all before I am dead when placed in an Arena with three or four 2400+ players. ~ Clive
ReplyDeleteWe have proudly presented the Spartacus bookmarklet... it is not the game feature that sucks, but we do it ourselves... As before you manually click a health refill few scripts automatically target you on the fly leaving you no chance...
ReplyDeleteIntroducing the bookmarklet also meant that you nead loads of stamina for it to be even fun as with the tool that is the limiting factor...
To bad they did not make it in flash preventing any script to play it... it could have been a nice little shooter game, but we prefer whining at Zynga while ruining this feature ourselves.
Yes you can call me a hypocrite as I use the tool myself as well. Only the first few days it was a fun game, now it is just an easy way of burning stamina fast...
Well the no fear was ok while it lasted. I am having the problem where i can't get into the arena. 99% of the time I get a black screen until it is over, so the no fear kept me from losing anything. I was only doing it for the limited time mission and it counted for the fight in XX shootouts.
