Random 40% Game Card Redemption Bonuses

In Mafia Wars, the following popup isn’t as special as Zynga claims. The frequency of this popup makes one wonder why anyone would pay full price for reward points. An interesting thing happened at the same time I got this popup.

It’s a well documented fact that redemption bonuses on Game Cards are a better deal than a discount on reward points [1]. The reason is because dollar per dollar, you get more reward points for a redemption bonus than you do from a discount. I’ve only seen redemption bonuses offered during Marketplace Promotions. The timing of my 40% discount popup coincided with a random trip to the Redemption Page in the Marketplace and I was surprised to see a 40% redemption bonus as well. This doesn’t happen every time but it’s worth checking if you plan on buying reward points when they are 40% off. You will only get a better deal if you use the Zynga Game Card. The Facebook Game Card doesn’t give anything extra even though it appears in the same manner as the Zynga Game Card [1]. If you have a 40% offer and plan on taking Zynga up on their offer, go to the Redemption Page (use the Redeem link in the Account drop down menu) and see if you have the redemption offer. If you do, purchase a Zynga Game Card by going here. You do run the risk of Zynga not giving the code before the offer expires but normally they are pretty fast.

  1. of course it's better to wait until they have a 50% of RP promotion which usually coincides with a 50% redemption bonus, but I guess 40+40 is the next best thing if you can't wait for 50+50.
