Farewell to The Swede

Share:

It is with sad news to report that one of the strongest players in the game of Mafia Wars has decided to quit. The Swede from the [RYfG] Family made this hard decision mostly in part to not being able to do “anything halfway”. Through the years we have all seen the pace of Mafia Wars climb to the point that where it has gotten the nickname “Mafia Chores”. For those who knew Jack, he will be missed and his departure from the game will leave a void. Rather then sell or give his account away as so many other top players have done, Jack deactivated his Facebook account and states he may “reactivate from time to time just to check in”. Hopefully Zynga will notice his absence as much as the community and will strive to make the game fun and doable for all types of players. Jacks farewell message is shown below and like him is full of class.

If you visit the Mafia Tornado site, the Swede is ranked #3 in defense equipment strength. It’s sad to see the generic Facebook image where a once vibrant Swede image was. Jacks Facebook page is no longer there. I understand that people have lives to live and most of us will eventually make the same decision as Jack. It’s just difficult to see it actually happen.

Jack leaves the game with an impressive Respect rating of 2,929. Most will agree that Jack has all the Respect of the Mafia Wars community and that can’t be quantified. He is truly leaving a legacy behind.

  2. Sorry to say, yet the above doesn't surprise me nor will it make a difference to zynga!Out of the top 500 games, mafia wars is ranked #376 the last time I checked, which was just a few days ago. Accordingly to Zynga.com, they no longer support Mafia wars. So many long time players have left. No one ever wants to see one of their members leave. Much respect to everyone who plays. I've been playing Mafia long before it came to Facebook, daily at that. I don't intend on going no where, yet from what I've been reading on google mafia wars is dying. From 28+ million players to less than 1 million now. I recall when they announced they were bringing 'animals' into the game, and the drama that overwhelmed the feed months after zynga did just that. It's turned into a fun game to feeling like it's more so a chore, the constant begging of parts and such. I guess I am an minority, yet I don't intend on going no where as long as my members' need me and the game is still on Facebook xxx

    1. I don't feel you are in the minority. I have only been playing 4 years. Not near the level of some but still enjoy it a little. Mafia Chores is an appropriate name now. I do not do anymore begging for parts or build any of the new properties and it really has helped not make it so bad.

  3. A friend, a mentor, a cool head in a hot game.
Articulate, Wharton educated, compassionate, and kind.
Finding the time to teach us, to protect the lambs, to discover common ground between enemies . . . there will only be one Swede. He was a natural as my Mastermind.
The void with his departure cannot be filled. The best we can do is try to live up to Jack's standards and when he does "peek in", he will be proud that his standards are in practice.

  4. Been saying for months this game is dying and has become garbage that takes too damn long each day to do things. If Zynga does not realize this now after one of the top players of all time is quitting, they never will get it and make any changes.

  5. Got to know Jack back in 2009. He's a great friend and mentor. One true humble and classy gentleman who never fails to answer to your call for help. Had a great time playing the game with him and getting to know him as a friend. All the best in real life Jack! (bow)

  6. Several thousand of my losses have been in attempts in trying to ice Jack. We have lots of mutual friends and they have said that he is a awesome guy and we would most assuredly of been friends. Now that he is gone I guess that I will go for the whats after a trillion achievement. Farewell my friend that I have never met

  10. All I can say is WOW!!
    What a loss.
I may not have been on here anywhere near that long, but it is so awesome to see how much he was respected and liked.
If all the other top players are as awesome as he sounds, I would have loved to be part of that kind of family.

  13. I don't know Swede but as an MW addict i feel so sad that this once wonderful and amazing game that can unite people around the world is dying without zynga corp leaders care about it. Even though i have never crossed Swede's path i am sorry that such a dedicated player leave us, it must have been very hard for him to make the decision...

  14. Much respect Jack.. Hope you come back to us soon :O)

  15. Never met him, but he was something of a legend in many MW circles, and it's always sad when the legends die (figuratively, of course!).

And yes, the game takes too much time - while some will blame this on the number of activities going on in the game at a time, which is accurate to some extent, I will blame it more on the various and sundry "timers" that all run at different intervals depending on what happened when, especially those obnoxious "rolling" timers that really are based on "24 hours from the last time you did" instead of "x times a day" the way they're documented.

If (and that's a *BIG* if) Zynga is incapable of designing the game so that a person doesn't have to log on every eight hours, 16 hours, 18 hours, 24 hours, 24 hours and one minute, etc. to maximize their performance in the game, they should instead convert all "limits" in the game to "X per day". In that way the casual once a day player would be able to perform on par with those players running scripts 24x7.

  16. Best of luck Swede (bows). I will be here as long as MW is around because I enjoy the interaction with my FB friends. Thank you to MWLL for all that you do. <3

  17. Never knew the man personally thru the game but know he stood to help the small guy as well as the big guys in the game. He didnt tolerate the personal vendettas and rudeness in the game. he stood and fought on principals. Hate to see him go. Always looked forward to who was gonna get smashed next. :) RYFG rock on............

  18. Yeah I have had the honor of you rolling over me from time to time. ;-) but you are right, this game is like a job; we should get paid haha. With you going the void gets bigger as more and more long term players quit. Maybe Zinga will see this and ask "WHY?". Zinga get a clue, too much of a good thing is never a good thing. Take Care Swede. Signed: THE HOLY ONE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. its obvious zynga will never get the clue...if they did, we wouldn't be sayin' g'bye to the Swede, now would we

  20. Honor and respect to you Swede, You will be missed and I will miss seeing you in my attackers list and accidentally hitting you back, :P Zynga is really stupid for not seeing the money maker they have and not treating it's players w/ respect. I see our game going to hell in a handbasket.
Good luck to you in your life, Swede.

  21. Was with Jack in RYfG for over 3 years, & have yet to meet a more genuine person in this game. He played for fun & while he did spend money on it, his biggest purchases came from buying items that were in the game to raise money for disasters such as the Haiti earthquake along with other fundraisers within the game. When he took over as GF from Mark, I couldn't think of a better choice. While most of the biggest players in the game have been accused of being cheats & hackers rightly or wrongly, Jack NEVER was, as the people who knew him, know it wasn't in his nature to cheat. He will be sorely missed, & if & when he reactivates, I just hope I'm around to say a proper goodbye & thank you to one of the best I've played with!!! (cheers) Swede!!! R.J.
