SOPA & PIPA Acts

Share:

If you like to use the internet to look up information and learn, there is proposed legislation which could put an end that. Many are opposing the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) because they could stop the exchange of free information on the internet. The idea is to protect content industries like music and film but the methods will affect us all. Many sites are opposing these acts. If you look something up on Google today, you will notice a big black box.
To learn more and take action, go here.
Wikia is also calling for action. Many wiki sites have shut down for 24 hours in order to raise awareness and encourage internet users to contact their representatives.
Wiki sites that are still available contain warnings and offer redirects to take action. Go here to earn more.
If you think this doesn't affect or concern you, think again. Our beloved Mafia Wars Wiki Page, as well as this blog and any other source of Mafia Wars information could be stopped. We would be forced to reply on Zynga and that's a scary thought!
Here is a short video that personalizes what SOPA and PIPA will mean to you. Thanks to Steve Faltus for sharing it on the fan page.

  1. why do the idiots in the US thin k they rule the internet and are the only ones on it ? get a life and get with the real world. The net was invented by a UK citizen and is now worldwide. They can not stop the kiddy fiddling with international co-operation so how are they going to stop anything else ?

  4. The internet and the world wide web are two different entities . I used the internet in its initial form a number of years before HTML and web pages (and Windows) existed.

    Internet - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet

Pretty key point, regardless of who lays claim to 'inventing' either:

"The Internet has no centralized governance in either technological implementation or policies for access and usage"

I find it very unnerving that the US government is attempting to kowtow to corporate America to the point of negatively affecting the entire world. I hope everyone is focusing more on making others aware of the potentially harmful affects of SOPA and PIPA rather than getting into pissing matches about who invented what could potentially be destroyed :)

  5. Right on.

I love the Bloggess, she's hysterical.

It's cool that all of those major people made the time to create that informational video.

  6. I have one thing to say...

Welcome to the United States of China.

Our beloved Barry is sure doing some great things while he's in office. Higher unemployment. Bigger national debt. Attempting to limit the internet.

If you voted for Barry, go get a .357 magnum. Place one round in the chamber. Place barrel to temple. Pull trigger. You've just made the world a better place by not being in it with your stupidity. I'd prefer you (not you, Jenn) not have another option to vote for him again.

  7. I bet all the people bitching about this voted for obama, or support him. BAD IDEA.
