Application Data Changes

Share:

If you keep track of the Facebook Application Stats, you may have noticed a large dip in the number of users. This is because Facebook changed the way they calculate the active user numbers and they feel it is more accurate. It's not good for Zynga because beefed up stats make them look better. The current tally for Mafia Wars Monthly Active Users is 3,300,000 and the Daily Active Users are at 780,000. Unfortunately these low numbers can't all be attributed to the data reporting changes as we all see people quit everyday in our news feeds.

Zynga probably isn't very happy about this change as it may not make them look as good to future investors if their IPO is ever approved. At least Facebook didn't just take away their data without informing them or giving a reason!

  1. There's something wrong with this picture... if they are now using 'authenticated users' as the metric, wouldn't the MAU and DAU be much closer in number? Something doesn't make sense...
