Meme Crates

Share:

There is a new Crate available in the Marketplace. This one is called the Meme Crate. I have no idea what this means and couldn't see a common theme in the items. There is an image of the Laser Squirrel on the box. Maybe this is one of the Crate Contest winners. I checked and no winners have been announced so maybe not.
Because of the Marketplace Promotion, you can get one Meme Crate for 6 Reward Points and 3 for 18. If you're going to get 3, make sure to buy them in singles so you get 3 check marks on your ticker instead of one.
Click the help mark to view what's inside the Crates.
Here is a closer look at the 8 new items. The Noob Tube and the Trollercycle sound cool and makes me think this came from a Crate Contest winner.

  3. A meme is "an idea, behaviour or style that spreads from person to person within a culture."

A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate and respond to selective pressures.

The word 'meme' is a shortening of 'mimeme', from Ancient Greek mīmēma, "something imitated", and it was coined by the British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in The Selfish Gene (1976)as a concept for discussion of evolutionary principles in explaining the spread of ideas and cultural phenomena. Examples of memes given in the book included melodies, catch-phrases, fashion and the technology of building arches.
