Here is an article written by Brian Womack for Bloomberg. It looks like Goggle and Zynga have been talking. The point of interest that should make Mafia Wars players nervous is the fact that Google+ will take only 5% of Zynga's revenue from virtual items (ie, Reward Points) while Facebook currently gets 30%. Is it possible that someday Zynga will abandon Facebook like they did with Tagg and My Space? Will enough players make the transition? Only time will tell.

I guess you meant 30% instead of 3% for Facebook's revenue?
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this - we definitely need to watch the developments here ...
What am I not getting???>
ReplyDelete"Google+ will take only 5% of Zynga's revenue from virtual items (ie, Reward Points) while Facebook currently gets 3%"
ONLY 5%? Versus Facebook's 3%? Sounds like they will be paying less to Facebook so...why leave?
Zynga gets kickbacks from facebook from the adds on the side of their games so the 30% doesn't mean anything. or the %5 for that matter because it's all about who gets a large enough market share at the start. the google+ playing field has to be open and fair to all players not like facebook who bend over backwards to accommodate zynga when they threatened to set up their own games portal.
ReplyDeleteMajor typo, thank you :)
ReplyDeleteThe game will be gone before it becomes an issue at the rate who ever in charge of MW is killing the game.
ReplyDeletemethinks right now Zynga cannot release current FB games in Google since they have an agreement which is binding. on the other hand, would we be worried ? mebbe google will be a better platform for zynga games than facebook. let's not forget that almost 50% of the systemic f@#kups players face daily in the game are because of facebook hassles.
ReplyDeleteZynga Poker is on Google +
ReplyDeleteWhat about the Yahoo platform. A few months ago Mafia Wars was introduced for this platform as well.
ReplyDeleteUmm mafia wars has moved to Yahoo now also
ReplyDeleteI had a MySpace MW account before FaceBook......this past spring, Zynga offered various MySpace closing for certain account criteria to MERGE the MySpace account with their respective Facebook account...........or just turn your MySpace account and trump the current FB Account......my criteria was to MERGE and i received ~2500RP credited to my FB account.............i suspect if FB abandons Zynga..then the same would be true for Google.
ReplyDeleteFYI... I contacted Customer Support for a glitch last week and part of their "answer" was to use Google+, not Firefox. So was this being helpful? Or are they pushing players first to use Google+, then off of Facebook in general? Oh the drama!!!
ReplyDelete@anonymous above: Google+ is a new Social Network owned by Google. Chrome is a browser also owned by Google. You are comparing two different things. Like apples and oranges. The CS agent was telling you to try a different browser than FireFox to see if your problem was tied to your browser.
ReplyDeleteFacebook's already kiling itself and people are looking for an alternative, for instance as mentioned in the article:
ReplyDelete"On the top right of canvas pages, which are used for applications, Facebook will now display bookmarks for top apps along with activity updates from friends on other games."
With that and the "new" (and worthless) messaging system, Facebook is shooting itself in the foot more often than Zynga, though I never thought that was possible.
If Google+ is no *worse* than Facebook, it will be a rousing success. And if Zynga lets players transfer their accounts - well - it may be all over for FaceBook.
I would love to leave Facebook for Google+. I just hope we can take our accounts with us.
