If you are having troubles getting into or playing Mafia Wars, you are not alone. There are "known issues". You will notices a red message on the Zynga forums that states the following:
Please be aware that there is a global issue impacting all Zynga games.
While this issue is active players may not be able to connect to Zynga games on Facebook, or play Zynga mobile games that use Facebook Connect.
We will remove this notice when the issue is resolved. Please visit your favorite Zynga game's specific forums for future details and information.

Temporary Loading & Spinning Revolver Issues 08/11/11

Many players are reporting that they are experiencing issues with slow or incomplete loading which is preventing them from playing the game. Additionally, some players may also experience white screens or the Spinning Revolver.
Our development has been made aware of this matter, and they are currently working to find a resolution. We apologize for any inconvenience or interruption that this is causing to your game-play. We understand that many players are concerned due to the in-game timers for some of our current features, and we want you to know that we will be working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
While the issue is being experienced we are advising players to access the game via www.mafiawars.com, which provides a resolution to the slow loading issue for many players. If you continue to experience the spinning revolver, or slow loading issues, please try accessing the game through that link.
