Epic Boss Fight Bug Fixes, Changes & Review

Share:

In my Epic Family Boss Fight Walk Through, I pointed out a few bugs that seem to have been fixed (1).  In addition to bug fixes, there were a few minor changes.  When using combos, many found that no additional damage was applied if Rage Debuff or Fatigue Buff Boosts were used. This seems to longer be the case and all damage for the combo is now applied.
The Timer for replenishing the boosts that you give to your Family members was not accurate and this too appears to be fixed. When you enter the fight for the first time, you get 5 boosts which correspond to the position you chose. Once you use them, a timer of 30 minutes will start. The timer doesn't always appear to be correct but if you refresh your page, you will get a more accurate view.
Towards the end of the Boss Fight, the Boss would mysteriously regenerate his health. The work around was to just keep fighting through it. This is no longer appears happening so it can be assumed that it was fixed. You can see by the image below, my score would go up but so would the health of the Boss.
We can now request Rifle Rounds every 8 hours. When the feature was first implemented it was once a day.
You an see by the times on my requests that I have been able to request them every 8 hours. Each request will yield 20 Rifle Rounds providing your mafia members send them to you.
If you join the Boss Fight but never attack him, you will not get any loot. Nidalee, Mafia Wars Game Designer, explained on the forums that there is an equation and you total damage must be a small percentage of the total damage in order to qualify. I have found through personal experience and talking to other players that a few attacks seems to be sufficient. If you can't help due to lack of resources, it's still a good idea to join the fight so you can pass out boosts to help those who can. If you can get a few hits in, you will most likely be rewarded with 4 loot items when the fight is over.

It's not a static number. Your activity score must be higher than a (really tiny) percentage of the total activity score.

This is to prevent players from coming in and doing the absolute minimum amount and then ignoring the boss, while the rest of their family does all the work.

This has already been addressed but many players ask about it. If you use Ammo to attack the Boss, the damage is determined by the rage of the Ammo item you used (and the Rage Meter). If you use stamina, it is determined by the attack skills of your character. Stronger players will do more damage. Here are three different accounts attacking Jeff with Rage Meters starting at 0. The first account has an attack skill of 2,341 and one attack did 133 damage and raised the Rage Meter to 44. The second account has an attack skill of 6,044 and did 159 in damage and the Rage Meter went to 8. The last account which is very week, has an attack skill of 92 and did 93 in damage and the Rage Meter didn't move. I asked some strong mafia wars players how much damage they do and the highest number that I know of is 415.

Attack Skills 2,341
Attack Skills 6,044
Attack Skills 92
There have been a lot of questions surrounding what loot items you will get when the fight is over. According to the Customer Support page, the reward(s) are totally random. It says that your chances of getting a Superior item will increase SLIGHTLY by doing better on the Leaderboard.
This is starting to disappoint many players who are on the top of the leaderboard. You can see here that Adnan Javaid was number one on the leaderboard and had a score of  67,130 yet he didn't get any superior items. We started to notice this trend once they changed the number of rewards you receive per Boss Fight. The superior items are dropping at a much lower rate than they were when the Boss Fight was first implemented.
In the same fight as shown above, my score was a little over 7,000 and I got a superior item. It doesn't seem fair to the players who score the highest but that's how it works.
Jeremy who is in a smaller Family, was number one on the Leaderboard and had a score of 234,410. He also didn't get any Superior items for all his efforts. It really is random.
The Street Blade still seems to be MIA. The {ASS} Family has completed exactly 41 fights since the Street Blade was added to the Reward Page. Here are some Inventory Group runs to show that some of our top performers have not gotten this item.
If your Family has done multiple Boss Fights, you may have noticed that the timer resets with each fight. The feature is meant to be permanent and the timer represents the current Boss Fight. Jeff will not just disappear when it runs out.  Each Family will have 7 days to beat the Boss once the fight is activated.

Thanks to the {ASS} Family, Mike Nestor and Eike for helping me put this post together.

  1. I think on top of any loot we get, they should also give us some of the Uncommon loot, because some of it looks cool, and some seem to be stronger than the rare items.

  2. 1) That last comment about the Boss Fight timer raised a question with me. If the New Boss gets released by Zynga, is there still time to finish the current Boss Fight with Jeff TK? Or will he just mysteriously disappear?

    2) The first paragraph, where it says "This seems to XXX longer be the case and all damage for the combo is now applied.", shouldn't it say NO at the X's? Or am I not getting it?

Thanks for the article Jennifer. Will pass it on to my family :-)

I was 1st place with 46,000 ponts (the second place had like 15,000) and i got only Rare items, this has happened to me almost everytime.. and its not fair:/

  4. One member of our family received not one but 2 street blades yesterday, from the same boss fight! Nobody else in our family has received even one.

  5. I understand the top players ROCK, but I personally like the idea of being able to IMPROVE where I stand, by maybe getting something ( ex- a superior item) they can't always beat me at due to their strength. I like the delusion that maybe I can be better/stronger too ... lol

  8. Not sure if this is a "glitch" (or deliberate), but I can verify that the display isn't always correct in showing you who has helped you (with stamina buffs, or rage debuffs, etc.). I know because I have two accounts in the same family, and when I send a stamina buff from one account to the other, someone else's icon sometimes shows up as purportedly being the person who helped me out (when I know, in fact, it wasn't that person).
