Episode 77 of the Informant Podcast is all about the Family. From Pete's description of the Family Rank Spreadsheet by Team Spockholm, to my experiences with the {ASS} Family and Chester and Jana talk to a few players in the Player Spotlight. I will say that no Family has a right to tell another Family how to play the game. The Mafia Wars Loot Lady Family was created solely for the purpose for me to write blog posts about the Family Module. I was surprised that many players requested to join. I accepted the first 100 requests. Many players just want to be in a Family for the purpose of the in-game feature. I laughed when my energy account got the following message because another Family was not happy with the actions of a player wearing the {MWLL} tag.
Zynga wants us all to join or create a Family so those players already in one need to learn to separate the established Families from the new or helping Families an stop trying to dictate how this game is played. If they want to control everything then they can go develop their own game and establish their own rules. Unless Zynga incorporates rules withing the Family Module, there is nothing wrong with playing the game how you choose.

That's were it's wrong. Being part of a clan/ family, and i have been for a long time, we all have adopt to dont hitlist anyone or in very rare exception. Its not say to other how to play the game but just a conduct code we all have . Beeing in a clan have some code like in the army and we all like to fit in. Hitlisting ppl is a no way for everyone as we can all find another way to resolve the matter. We all hate hitlisters
ReplyDeleteIn MW just in real life there are certain laws / norms / ethics / rules written or unwritten in that you have to act accordingly, and if you fail to obey them, you have to suffer the consequences. In this sense this game is like the real life, continous hitlisting of members of other clans is consideered rude just as slapping sy IRL in the face during an argument.
ReplyDeletethat was great!
ReplyDeletepoooooooooping xD
Why can't people get it? Zynga's families and existing MW Clans have not a thing to do with each other! At least the way Zynga has structured it!
ReplyDeleteYou are right no family has the right to tell you how to play. However they do have the right to attack everyone of your members if they don't like how they are playing.
ReplyDeleteSpider
Making that a family matter or not, the clan leader who has written you has a legit concern and puts it in a nice voice. After all, serial hitlisting can or can not be a way to grief somebody and I'm sure nobody would have said anything if it was inside normal borders. Asking politely to stop is the best way to handle this in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteYou as godmother can or can not take responsibility for the actions of the random guy you invited, but you can't really complain if there will follow consequences.
Are you serious? You think people should only hit list members of their own clan? What?
ReplyDeleteIf players can repeatedly attack other players then players can repeatedly hit list other players.
Dont like it then tough but dont try to dictate game play to other families and clans.
The hitlisting feature was put in for a reason, for weaker players to get back at stronger players. NOT TO HIT THEIR OWN FLIPPIN CLANS.
DUMB.
It's not a clan, it's a in-game Family that is not organized. There is a difference. I don't care for serial hitlisters either but it's a game function that Zynga made available to anyone who wants to do it. If this is what makes the game fun for some players then who does anyone think they are to demand they stop? They can attack all they want but there are many unorganized Families created just because they could. Why attack 100 people because of one person. Families that exist in Facebook are not the same thing as the ones that exist in game and people are failing to realize that and acting like fools over it.
ReplyDeletesorry Lootlady, I am a fan of yours and what you provide for us playing the game, but you are coming off looking very poorly on this one.
ReplyDeleteSure anyone can hitlist as a game feature but to repeatedly hitlist the same player is just asking to start something and if that person has a family moniker of any type then that family accepts the consequences of being in a group with that player.
The other family was very clear asking for it to stop and gave you a very fair and even tempered heads up that your family tag would be attacked if it did not stop. No one is dictating game play other than not wanting to be hitlisted again and again.
Make the member stop being a lame serial hitlister or remove them from the family or get attacked. Welcome to mafia WARS
Pffft...what i fail to understand is why do ppl talk so much BS over a game. Frankly, if sm1 hitlists u its there choice. Thats the reason the feature is there in the game for. Got so many issues with it, ask Zynga to remove it in stead of talking a whole load of bull crap here.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest cheaters in the game are from clans, no1 can deny that. Clan members abuse the most, pass disrespectful and racist comments, report ppl and fall down to every level possible.
Much respect 2 u -- bullcrap, who u trying to fool. You dont even know the other guy.
Clans make the game dirty & fill Zynga's pockets - FACT. Dont talk about ethics and rules plz, ppl from clans are the most unethical and downtrodden cheaters. So cut the crap and stop this BS over a game based on clicking - LMAO pathetic
LMAO - So much BS over a Clicking Game
ReplyDeleteIt's a game, people! Not happy with what's going? There's always Farmville.
ReplyDeleteAs always, a big "Thank You" to Jen and the crew at LootLady. If it weren't for your site, half the haters spreading negativity wouldn't have a clue. They continue spread hatred, while collecting Mike's Daily E-Mail Bonus, and return to your site to catch up on the newest features in Mafia Wars. These hypocrites need to get a life.
dunno. i think the gm of the other group handled it quite well. many would have just come in, guns a blazing and taken your whole family out. if you join a family, clan or whatever...you are tied to the other members and their actions reflect on you. to me it just sounds like people want all of the benefits and none of the repercussions. this game has evolved way beyond just clicking and the rules are no longer only dictated by zynga's tos.
ReplyDeleteyou know, just got that part. funny that people who flagrantly violate the tos of the game then fall back on zynga's rules to support their point. can't have it both ways.
Seems to me that the member of the clan that contacted you regarding this matter followed the proper protocol, and showed you nothing but Respect in asking that you address the issue. I'm curious to know what your response was to them? Have you attempted to open any lines of communication? I can see where the frustration comes from noone likes a serial hit lister and I also appreciate what they said about when they play they only hit list members of their own crew. Thats how most clans play the game and if a member of their crew was hit listing repeatedly that member would be removed from the clan and given a certain number of days to remove the clans tag, if they refused to do so they would be repeatedly attacked by the people they once played beside.I agree with whoever it was that sent you that and as the founder of the MWLL family you should show them the same respect they gave to you and work to find a solution to the issue at hand. I think the easiest way would be to remove whoever the hit lister is from your MWLL family and inform the person who sent you the email they are no longer associated with your family. You said "Why attack 100 people because of one person."? the answer is simple those 100 other people all have the same MWLL family tag that "one" particular player has so its called guilty by association. Clans stand united and strong and when they feel they have been done an injustice they rally together and do what they do best...they fight. Do you really want to have your family tag tarnished by one individual? Is it worth getting the reputation that you condone serial hit listers in your family? Some people deserve to get hit listed for being bullies absolutely , but when its done just because you lose a fair fight ...... thats pretty lame, and as they say what members of your family do reflects directly back to you. thats just my 2 cents
ReplyDeleteIn most established clans in MW, there is something called the "Fair Fight Policy" or "Fair Fight Rules". Some clans choose not to follow it, but a lot do. Basically, these rules are: don't hitlist, don't ask mafia to attack, don't toss links for a fair fight list attack, don't bully. Unless in a war, then all the rules are off and it is a free for all.
ReplyDeleteA lot of clans follow this loosely because their tagged members represent the entire clan. If one member deviates and causes trouble, it causes trouble for every person in that clan wearing that tag. Usually this is how wars are started (and some clans do the things on purpose get into a war because they are bored).
Because a lot of clans follow these general rules, it is kind of an accepted "norm" in the game, thus, clans might contact other clans when something comes up. The above email is basically a clan contacting another clan about an issue they feel needs to be addressed and from what I can see, they did it in an appropriate manner.
