During the announcement phase of Mafia Wars Live Episode 7, we were told on the 8th of 11 announcements that the Declare War feature was going to be changed to prevent exploits and to expect account roll backs. When Zynga goes into rollback mode, we often see the innocent become victims. Nate stated that they were going to "make the right changes happen to the right people". The video below is a 48 second clip of the declare war feature announcement made on Mafia Wars Live.
In the question and answer portion of the show, SmashedEngineer asked about war glitches and script users and we were told that "The declare war bug should be fixed tomorrow".
For those who don't know, the declare war bug enabled some players to collect unlimited war helper loot. It is intended that players should only be able to collect 5 war loot items a day. Despite the in game notification after helping in 5 wars, many still got the loot.
This caused many player to use automated war helping scripts and made helping in wars manually virtually impossible. I'm sure most of us have experienced the annoyance of helping in a war that was declared "a few seconds ago"...
....waiting for the page to load and finding the war is over.
To avoid constantly getting these messages, many created their own war groups and stopped posting wars to their walls.
I haven't noticed any changes in the declare war feature today but I did get the message that I already helped in 5 wars for the day on the first war I attempted to help in. I imagine they are working on something and players will experience problems until they are finished whatever it is they are doing.
Way back when, the incentive to help in a war was you got 3 experience points. That was nerfed to 0 and the only reason anybody had to declare or help in a war was for the Veteran achievement.
The declare war feature was updated on October 1st of last year and loot became the incentive to help in wars. The bot issue really wasn't a problem because we were limited to 5 items a day. Zynga's plan to keep us engaged in the declare war feature is to offer Warlord achievements. It was never intended for players to max out on war loot.
Once the limit of 5 items a day was not enforced, wars became problematic. I support scripts that will scan the news feeds for wars that are not completed but leave them for you to manually help. I'm against the ones that instantly detect new wars and immediately perform the helping action for you. There is a big difference. I have no idea how they will "adjust accounts". There is another war glitch in which multiple identical war rewards are received for the same war. This can't be considered an exploit because it happens when the last helper of a reward clicks too many times. The game is slow and often this is done anyways. If one person does it intentionally, how can the other players who helped in the war be penalized for it?

Yeah, I've noticed that sometimes when I declare war on someone, one of their mafia helps in the war even though it was obviously never detected by the other player. So people are running bots that can detect a war even before it's declared in a feed. Glad to hear there will be rollbacks. I hate cheaters.
what is not fair is the fact that MW can hold out on the achievements. i have been on the first level since the achievements were introduced and i only need 1 to move forward. i have already collected 2 that are higher by helping in wars but if i cant move forward, what is that point and why not use a script?
Some people feel the need to use bots to collect because they simply cannot compete with players that use their credit cards to buy large amounts of loot and have stats no normal can compete with. I don't see why using scripts is cheating. Even manually the war loot glitch still applies so does that mean that everybody will get rolled back?
Actually, when you declare a war on someone in a clan, it appears in the "Clan Feed" at the bottom as "so and so attacked me, HELP!". So, if one of those hundred people is looking down there and helps...
Stupid, if you cant build it right, it is not my f'in fault. There is NO way that can do this fairly, without "Rolling" EVERY player back to the day the promotion started. Here again, they (ZYNGA) Screws the pooch and we pay.
Cheaters? In a game called mafia Wars based on the real world Mafia? Get a grip.. If script users are cheaters then the dev teams should all be fired, they should anyways, as they use scripts as well. Z is of course misusing the term "exploit" no code was needed to do this. This is a bug in their slopily written code they have known about for ages. If it is anyones fault it is theirs and they should be handing out free war loot to everyone if they wanted to make this right, not penalize those who had been repeatedly hit by this bug. I happen to be one of those guys that started a "war group". Although, it was started to HELP my mafia mates to complete their wars faster. I have been lucky to have a very rapid response from my mafia (10-30 secs), unfortunately it is not so for a lot of the people I help. I picked up on the big difference in att/def scores on war loot compared to the rest of what I was getting, and tried to get my help group to be a war group. LOL, not quite as easy as you would expect..... hard to teach new methods of posting to people that have never copied a URL before. I also hate losing, and if I don't declare right away, I get declared on. For some reason I don't get notifications of being declared on. I get lucky and chance upon one in progress sometimes. Now, I don't use a war bot. Neither do my mafia members, but if I catch a war on me (even w/a half X on my pic) and get a post to my wall..... I win 99% of the time. I haven't seen any "extra" war loot or other glitches, but I have noticed that people are finding out about wars before they post. Kind of annoying when you are trying to coordinate a sneak attack with a few buds. Whatever the glitches are, I will be glad to see them fixed. I help in lots of wars, so I have a lot of war loot. All of it was earned the right way. Exactly what would qualify an account for "rollbacks"? It would be nice to know. Thanks..... hope you get it all straightened out. I love this game. Been hooked ever since I started playing (late March).

Straight from the blog, now, how they hell they're going to work this out is anybody's guess. Just pick a number and apply it to everyone is how it sounds. Interesting to see what they're going to do, as I know many people who paid to start wars early for the rewards.
Either way if they think that imbalance was causing people to complain and quit, I hope they're ready for the s**t storm that follows any roll back.
Yes, me too...I was never able to get into other people's wars...as they were already over...I also always try to help other's wars if I'm able to get in.... But most of the time, I found it odd, that most wars were already over even after a few seconds... Anyone who is using a program to snag every war is cheating whether you want to admit it or not..don't blame it on the glitch. You intentionally are grabbing them and screwing your own mafia family out of being able to participate in them. YOU are the reason that some of us have created groups and use links to do wars so that YOU cannot get to them and real players can. I applaud zynga on rolling back those that cheat in this way. If people start checking others war assists you will right away see who the cheaters are...fight some people and look at their defense loot...are they maxed out on level 5 war loot??? if so they are cheating....for the amount of time level 5 has been out it is impossible to be maxed on all of the items. If you have to cheat at a "game" I would hate to see what you would do in real life. Only the cheaters have a reason to be worried about being rolled back....if you can't play without cheating DON'T PLAY
Frankly I think Zynga should get sued. Their software code is intellectual property. Third party script developers infringe on that intellectual property, but Zynga does nothing to stop them from INTENTIONALLY developing scripts that violate the Terms of Service for it's players. Many people exploit these scripts to gain an unfair advantage in the game, but Zynga does nothing.
@anonymous, fight scripts and war helping scripts are two different thing. The fight list is constantly refreshed and I'm not taking anything away from my mafia members. Argue all you want but fight scripts that don't deviate from what you could do with your mouse and finger are not bad.
so. it is going to be rollback. I use my credit card to improve my skills and Im not using scripts and fight and do everything on regular way. But in the past I was rolled back for something that I didnt use and do, my regular skills was taken, my RP's drop down. I hope that this rollback will be regular. If something drops down to me they will need to explain that on court.

The scripts that pick up wars weren't doing anything that couldn't be done with a mouse and finger.
The problem was created by Zynga, the scripts were out there before the Warlord 2 achievement. There was a time that some people could collect from unlimited level up posts, this wasn't as visible and so went largely unnoticed, and as far as I'm aware not one person was rolled back for collecting what could have amounted to 100's of free skill points a day.
Zynga need to take a good look at themselves. They are the ones who cannot get their codes right in the first place. We are constantly being used as crash test dummies and when things go bang we get it in the neck from their stupid mistakes. Personally I don't use scripts as I like to feel it's me and only me who is playing the game. If otheres wish to use scripts then that's up to them.
As for CC players,and I am one,that again is up to us to decide what we want to spend or hard earned money on ! This is my hobby and I'll spend what I can afford to make my character stronger. This game is called Mafia Wars ~ the clue is in the name ! Whivere thinks that a real Mafia family is "clean" is living in on another planet.
I agree with Ken O Where who said Zynga should hand out the top WAR loots to those of us who haven't been using a WAR bot !
they should just remove the limit restriction. If everyone can collect unlimited loot it's fair for everyone. Why take teh most difficult painful backwards ignorant dumb solution?
I Simply do not bother with Wars OR Operations OR Jobs anymore...... No matter how fast my PC and connection is and if I am notified before they even post ( Via Mail ) I never get in on them..... I have had Some who have Maxed out on WAR5 Loot sit on me for days on end........ Please tell me how it is Fair that they have literally THOUSANDS Of War5 Loot and continue to Snag every war post so no one else can get them therefore preventing me from helping in even 5 wars a day?
If you are complaining about this glitch then I think you really need to take a good look at yourself. Fight Scripts Like Brawler and ASSASSINATOR Just reduce the Mundane task..... Yes A War Helper could do the same.... But a war helper is So very much faster than MANUALLY doing the wars.... Especially as I have had people help in my wars before I have even clicked POST. Fight scripts ARE SLOWER Than MANUAL So in fact it is a DISADVANTAGE... It just takes away the non stop clicking and freezing...
So Grow The fuck up.... Anyone who has Achieved more than their 5 War Loots a day Should be rolled back cause they prevented other players from obatining even 1 a day.... And If You Think I am being unjust I Say a BIG F YOU
Everything that Zynga puts out is "TESTED" for glitches and there is no way that they didn't know about this before it was released. As far as scripts I have watched some of their "LIVE FEEDS" and on the question and answer parts. People are constantly asking about the scripts and they will never answer the question. If you go to the Zynga blog archive you will see some user scripts and the links to get them. As for the Live feeds they are a joke and very painful to watch.
i just hope they get it correctly when they do rollbacks...been playing mafia wars for almost 2 years and got the VETERAN achievement just yesterday. i have nothing against userscripts, it was my choice not to use an autobot but it would be unfair if they mess up with this !!!
If Zynga has a permanent fix to the crappy code that let this loot out in the first place then that's all the time they need spend on this so called problem. The loot that got out will wither on the vine when fight and job drop loot is put into the game that is stronger than loot they want to wast their time removing from the game. Loot goes obsolete fast in this game and is not nearly as strong as skill. Zynga makes themselves look stupid when the announce in public that because they can't set limits that are fair and work all the time then we will just steal your loot because we are to stupid to stop you from getting it.

I have gotten in on plenty of wars without a bot, as I am part of a family that posts them on the chat wall. there are in excess of 50 people in my family and if 1/2 of them post 2 wars a day and I just happen to be in place to jump on it, why the hell should I be penalized for their poor design. I don't find fairness in this in any way. Any programmer worth his salt would ensure his code was correct before implementing it. Their bad, not mine....
Fact 1. Zynga had some problems with their system and because of it players could collect more than 5 war rewords per day. Fact 2. Players noticing this problem and with or without using programs to help in wars they helped and they got the rewords. Fact 3. There are players that don't know about the rewords and the meaning and importance of them, but they still help because they try to be good mafia members. Fact 4. The Dev.Team sees that there are some irregularities regarding loot drop from wars and starts to work on it.
What I see wrong in all this is what they did. On their mistake they are taking back the loot and I'm pretty sure this happens because they want to point the fingers on us(and they do actually). But how many fingers there are pointed on you when you point on us? Just think about it! I personally joined 4 groups with this idea, to help each other with the game. I don't use any program to help myself with the game because I like to feel like playing it not just staring at the screen and see how it rolls. I don't have anything against those that do use them ( there are people working, babysitting, making a good meal..) because of lack of time they can't sit at the pc like others do(they have real life). I have helped all this time in more than just 10 wars a day and got the loot. I see no point in taking it all back when you can just let it be, do your job and just fix the damn problem zynga. People that didn't had the chance to help that many times in a wars will get their loot in other ways. For being a good mafia members I got rolled back and I see this not too fair. For those that complain in not getting all the items for level 5....there is time, don't point fingers on those that get before you and help in wars (no matter the ways)...the actually idea on helping on wars is not for you to get the rewords, but on helping your mafia members, isn't it?. Be polite and respect each others. Hope this will be the last this coming from Zynga, otherwise I'll just quit on playing the game. They just waste my time and good mood when they do irresponsible things like this one...things that they can't give it back to me. D.

For being a good mafia members I got rolled back and I see this not too fair.
For those that complain in not getting all the items for level 5....there is time, don't point fingers on those that get before you and help in wars (no matter the ways)...the actually idea on helping on wars is not for you to get the rewords, but on helping your mafia members, isn't it?. Be polite and respect each others.
Hope this will be the last this coming from Zynga, otherwise I'll just quit on playing the game. They just waste my time and good mood when they do irresponsible things like this one...things that they can't give it back to me.
