Have A "Event"ful Weekend!

Share:

For a short period of time it looked like Zynga was listening to the player base and cooling it with the events. We had a few short bursts of relief from event fatigue. This weekend proves that there are no plans on slowing down. Don't they get that pumping out events on top of each other with no breaks is the reason for this?

In a surprising move, Zynga totally blew off Easter and they are making up for it this Memorial Day Weekend. Veterans all over the world (except those who play Mafia Wars) couldn't be prouder. Lets take a look at what we have going on this weekend.
First up is the Kassina Kunoichi Event. The new style of Boss Fight is actually a loot drop/gifting event disguised as a Boss Fight. There are 5 days left to complete it.
Next is the Put 'Em On Ice Event. There are 3 days left to log in 1,000 icings. There is no word on a possible extension and players who got slow rolled are not happy.
The somewhat lame X-Men First Class Loot Event is also lingering on the Home Page. This is probably the easiest event we've seen in a long time but it's causing way too much player confusion. Many don't get that items in excess of 10 are removed from their inventory after 30 minutes and that the Mastery item will be in your inventory even if you never get a collect button.
To make the tasks of icing people and looting Knuckle Punches, X-Men Suits, Shaw's Submarines and Cerebros more difficult, double loot drops are also being offered this weekend. It's hard enough to find living targets on the fightlist, now all the players who completed the events above but haven't maxed out on fight loot will be fighting.
Next is the special incentive to buy Reward Points. If double loot drops cause you to buy one too many stamina refills, why not buy some more Reward Points and get a Memorial Day themed item that is being advertised as fee.
To ensure players would make time to send each other gifts, powerful attack and defense boosts were added to the Free Gift page. Hollow Points and A19 Riot Shield will only be available this weekend.
Lastly we have the Playerscripts Memorial Day Mock War. I included this event because Zynga fully supports it and encouraged players to register in a post on the Official Mafia Wars Blog. I'm sure their support is appreciated by Playerscripts but was it cool of Zynga to dump so many other events on us at the same time. How will players have time to actively participate. Oh, I know, you can use a special script that automates the process.
The post referenced above has a lot of players demanding answers and clarification of the TOS regarding scripts. Blue Eyed Nate, Community Manager, is in charge of the Mafia Wars Official Blog. He continually takes risks that will eventually lead to a happier player base. If third party scripts are ever approved by Zynga, Nate will certainly be a hero to most of the community. Without his personal risk taking, there would never be hope.
One of my favorite forum trolls had to spoil a nice thread dedicated to the Mock War and the charity cause (1). Merbeast does bring up a valid point but it could wait until after the Mock War to be addressed. He could have started a new thread as well. That's just not how he rolls.

I would have participated, but this event requires the use of third party tools and scripts which break the ToS and could get my account suspended or banned. I am truly amazed that this thread has been allowed and that this event has been endorsed by Zynga. It would be nice if we weren't given mixed signals.

Merbeast seems genuinely concerned that his account will get banned for using a third party tool and won't participate in the Memorial Day Mock War because of it. Ironically, two days before the post above was made, he points out on the Mafia Wars Unleashed Forum some of his observations with the X-Men fighting loot items while using Brawler. He needs to man up like the rest of us and admit that he uses scripts and is not really afraid of them. If Zynga was going to ban his account, it would be for his forum antics.

I've got tons from fights, but only 1 from jobs...

EDIT: Brawler doesn't show all of them (as they come in pop-up form, I believe), so don't trust what Brawler tells you.

Zynga supporting Mock Wars that offer scripts to register and play is nothing new. Team Spockholm created The War Machine to make wars easier and more enjoyable. The War Machine was introduced with The St. Patrick's Day Mock War, a second in a series of Mock Wars hosted by the community.  There was a official blog post (referenced above) about this war that resulted in this forum thread. I think you will see the pattern when you compare it to the Memorial Day Mock War thread. The only difference here is the St. Patrick's Day forum thread caused Zynga to take action. Zynga withdrew their offer to donate loot items to give out as prizes to players who participated. They did this for the Love Hurts Mock War, the first in the series mentioned above. They also chose not to support the Battle of The Sexes Mock War, the third in the series of community-organized Mock Wars. Since then there has not been a fourth Mock War. We have been asked by Zynga to host more Mock Wars but without their official support, the War Machine will stay in the vault. The endorsement of The Memorial Day Mock War gives us hope that it will happen someday.
Sorry to go off topic but the issue above needed to be addressed. What really sucks for some players this weekend is there have been a few reports of 7 day bans from gifting and fighting. Things like this can probably account for the downward slope in the first image of this post. Talk about irony!

  1. Could be worse, none of those events is really bad.

  2. so is there anywhere in particular to get the xmen job items to drop? ive mostly been doing jobs in brazil for about 2 days now and nothing is dropping at all...

  3. Low energy jobs so that you can do more of them.

  4. Oh, c'mon, even the PS folks know Zynga's one hand doesn't talk to the other and has been tip-toeing around the forums on that issue. People waited until the event was underway and had plenty of time to be advertised before pointing out the contradictions between what the forums allow and what the blogs report. If nobody says anything, nothing will ever change. Hardly matters anyway, the event is turning into a total bust. There's only about 10 people out of 4000 who supposedly signed up who have either showed up or figured out the instructions to properly participate in the mock war. Good cause, good intentions, but poor execution. The Zynga forums refusal to allow discussion of scripts, even ones for events they are endorsing, makes it impossible to even spread the word of how to get more people participating in the event.

  7. You can ask friends to gift the job loot to you and you get mastery. Then you can gift it to another friend to help them. You only need 4 of each item at one time to get Ruby mastery. Try this and see if it works. It worked for me and my clan!

  8. A nice show of power can be shutting down script servers for just one day. Maybe Zynga will get the message that the games are utter crap without them once the initial newbie rush has gone.
Pull your heads in Zynga if i was an investor i would have been long gone .

  9. Merbeast is a good mafia member. You're being a bitch by posting peoples links and I just unsubscribed from your blog. This is the most brainless one I've seen yet.

  10. "What really sucks for some players this weekend is there have been a few reports of 7 day bans from gifting and fighting."

I've been getting the "Our systems have detected unusual activity" or whatever warning all weekend when fighting, robbing, and even *banking* and am NOT using scripts - though I may be becoming somewhat annoying to my Mafia with the hundreds of ices that I'm posting on my wall as proof *just in case* Zynga gives me grief.

  11. I'm Merbeast. Try following the links and reading them in context (something the lootlady failed to do). Draw your own conclusions to what I was saying... you might find I'm not the assclown that anonymous claims I am. I have reasons for my posts, and my reasons are to allow discussion of 3rd party apps on Zynga's forums (where we can all benefit from the discussion) rather than relegating it to shithole sites like the lootlady blog where things are posted out of context.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Nice of those people who call mwlootlady a bitch and calls this site a "shithole" obviously are mad. People resorting to name calling and insults have lost their own arguements and makes it so that they are not even worth listening to anyways.
Obviously Mwlootlady has spoken the truth and has struck a nerve if these guys have to come onto this blog to pick a fight. Their comments holds no truth as they cannot seem to see it in "context" (to use merbeasty's words) what mwlootlady was discussing about script usage and in regards to these events.

Keep doing what you are doing MWLootlady! Your blog is valuable to a lot of players and people do listen to you, including the devs, right? :)

  13. saying someone was "being a bitch" and calling someone a bitch are two different things. Just because you don't like someones posts, does not give you a right to publically call them a troll and post their link. Learn to read. You're not even allowed to post peoples links on the forums. It's rude and hateful. Also, it's not true. Merbeast has been a member of that forum for a long time. If you read, she name-called first. And for no apparent reason other than she has her little section of the internet.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If people start turning against LootLady and only ones that have problem with it are LootLady herself and few fans, then maybe, just maybe problem is LootLady..

And we have seen this "truth" that LootLady tells many times.. especially good were the ones where she didn't even know what icing means and claimed that X-Men event loot was nerfed.

Valuable blog indeed. Keep up the good work.

  16. It's too bad people can't see the posts by Merbeast which were removed by the moderators. I believe the name calling started on his end a long time ago. Troll is not a bad name, it's a definition of messing with forum threads which he clearly did. If anything showed disrespect to War Veterans it was that. In the ultimate form of hypocrisy, please read this thread on the ZCFU Forums ( http://www.mwunleashed.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4124&p=62888#p62888). It's not ok for me to call someone a troll but it's ok to write this? I respect the ZCFU site and the only problem here is with an individual (which never really was a problem,I sometimes laugh at his forum antics) I was also asked by a ZCFU member to post this in the comments so here it is.

Jenn I don't know how to reply in an appropriate place. So in reference to Merbeast's comments please post this below same.

I am Knee Breaker ZCFU. Merbeast has a very valid point. Very Valid. The event in itself is fricking fanstatic see my Z post here. Post 58 http://forums.zynga.com/showthread.php?t=1036565&page=2

I am a disabled combat vet, located in Illinois.

The issue that remains is what scripts are allowed?

Why are you a PAC member allowed to post an individuals name and point to same As a Bully "FC name upon request" I find some of your statements ostentatious and incorrect.

I also find some of what you post helpful.

Don't assume anything about ZCFU as that makes you a fool.

Don;t presume you can challenge a actual war veteran and DAV/VFW/American Legion member and walk away. So I ask you retract your comments about ZCFU. If you have an issue with Merbeast I am confident he can hold his own.

  17. While lootlady is helpful with some things, she might be one of the most ignorant people I've ever read in my life. She honestly has no fucking clue of what is happening in the real world. It's hilariously sad to read about how she has to have basic cultural references explained to her. It's like she has no background knowledge to draw on about anything. I also like how people constantly bitch about wanting things updated and new, and then bitch even more when things are updated and new. This whole angle of people crying about too many events is so fucking lame it's nauseating. Just don't play the event for fuck's sake.

    ReplyDelete
  18. So far only event i hate is the ice event the others i do not mind as much an much rather have more of.

    ReplyDelete
  19. No idea where the gossip started of too many events?

If there were no events the game would get so boring they would be losing even more players.

You add another region you finish it then what is next?

With out updated content or new content always being delivered it would get very boring.

Events are also a source of income for zynga since a lot of them are based around promoting something.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Once again, it is I, Merbeast. I agree with Lootlady that it would be nice if Zynga didn't over-moderate their forums and we could see all my posts that were deleted. What I do not agree with is that I "started it" with you. Nowhere have I posted your link (which I could have, and yes, I beat your defense), yet you posted mine. You, a PAC member and a blogger, called me out, and I am neither a PAC member or a blogger, just a player who likes to post in the forums. I have to agree with one of the "anonymous" posters: you're acting like a bitch. The question then arises, do you alienate some of your readers by continuing to act like a bitch, or do you stop calling out people like me and Franky C? Your call.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I do read the blog, because quite often has useful info.

But this obsession about having no events seems ridiculous. I enjoy them quite much and most of them can be finished by older players in a day. So this idea that you have to waste the whole weekend and not pay respects to veterans, it is quite naive. In addition no-one requires you to play them, if you do not like them or if you have other more pressing engagements. I was in Europe for 10 days last week and I only had about 10 min a day to build the properties loot, and that was fine.

Also, I prefer having events, than the complete boredom we experienced the last few weeks of having nothing new to do.

  22. Wow, Merbeast got a crapload of people to add him from this post and in his siggnature on forums he thanks the Lootlady for it. Franky got exp from people attacking and fighting him in the game through the published link. You guys fail to see the silver lining through this, she has the Midas touch. Acting like complete douchebags over it seems odd to me. Merbeast, you THRIVE on being an asshole, as well as your buddy/lover Franky. You've even POSTED on Forums saying you are an asshole. You LIVE to be an asshole. You LOVE being called an asshole and a troll, so what's your problem? If you want people to stop calling you that, then stop behaving like that. Simple.

Fact of the matter is that this is her blog and she has every right to post anything she sees fit. Including the hypocritical comments Merbeast made both of forums and his site. If she loses the readers like merbeast or of his kind, then she has not lost anything at all. There are many many many people who will still read her blog for every reason under the sun, and for the reason is: for the love of Mafia Wars. Most of her readers are not going anywhere. Her blogs are full of information, the latest updates on news and she has given her time and effort to make sure she gets that stuff posted asap. I think it is very cool that she has the MW community to read what she has to say, including the people who are on the management/developer's team. No wonder Zynga puts her blog linked to their own MW Blog. She must be doing something right.

  23. I'm wondering why Loot Lady thinks that everyone shares her opinion regarding the events? If you don't like the event don't do it. What's the problem? I agree with the other poster(s), without the events there's nothing else to do. Keep them coming, Zynga!

  24. I'm Hazeld from ZCFU and (rarely) the Zynga froums. There are a few comments from our memeber above, but I'd like to give an official response. Particularly as you have linked our forum above.

Like so many others we (ZCFU) are generally sick of the total BS and contraditions coming from Zynga - their forums, their TOS, their PAC (many of whom, as you well know, are heavily linked to scripting).

Scripts are either okay or they are not. Currently Zynga keep saying they are not then endorse events like this. Merbeast is right, technically they can ban your account for cheating because you joined in with an event they endorsed.

Their attitude stinks. The blind eye they turn to certain groups stinks. The fact that they won't come out and officially state which script activity they endorse stinks.

I will leave it to Merbeast to defend himself from your underhanded implications, he is more than capable.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If you would all get over the fac that I called Merbeast a troll you would see I was agreeing with you. Zynga does need to do as you say. I was just pointing out how the thread he commented on was for the Mock War and charity. He or anybody else could have started a different thread but that's not the issue at hand. I called one of your members out and many of you think I'm calling ZCFU out on something which is not the case at all. I was told today on your forum that you all are individuals and have minds of your own. Merbeast gave me the perfect example to make my point about what happens when Zynga doesn't give us answers. My sarcasm was lost in translation. I have no problems with him at all. I get called all kinds of names and it doesn't bother me nor do I go out and ask people to make a stink about it. Franky C was a different story because he was targeting a group of people that I'm a part of. As far as events go, personally I really don't mind them and finish them in a day. I just have had a lot of my mafia members quit the last time they went event crazy. It's easy for us but not for players who are still trying to finish things in the game. I was generalizing. If we all agreed on everything and shared the same opinions where would all the fun be? The Zynga forums would sure be boring. This just happens to be my blog so I tend to give my opinions. I never asked for readers and nobody is forcing anybody to read this blog. It's best to find a site you are more in tune with then criticize and complain one you don't like. Sure I make mistakes, that's what the comments are for. I never claimed to be an expert. Maybe that's why people read my content. If I blindly assumed everybody was as smart as those who correct me then I wouldn't need to explain anything and I could go out and troll other blogs and forums.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ah, well if you have "no problems with me at all", then why the attempt to prove me hypocritical? You went to the ZCFU forums and quoted me referencing how Brawler behaves with the event (information I could have gleaned from another source... plausible deniability and all), and then go on to say: "He needs to man up like the rest of us and admit that he uses scripts and is not really afraid of them. If Zynga was going to ban his account, it would be for his forum antics."
Yeah, you were just being sarcastic... LOL, no, you were acting like a vindictive bitch. I don't care if you quote me, I'd just really prefer you don't pick your quotes in such a way as to mischaracterize my argument.
IF you were just agreeing with my premise, you would have saved us both a whole lot of hassle by blogging about it without trying to make it appear that I'm being a hypocrite. I rather suspect that isn't the case, though.

I don't think you still have a general oppinion there, it rather seems like an event crusade with unknown motivation.
Maybe some newbies are overwhelmed by events, but that's not a problem of the game. Most veterans are happy to have something to do and most newbies will soon enough find out how to set priorities.
There was a version of MW without events on MySpace and it died. Right so. Zynga knows that and they will do their best to keep us busy.
Knowing this makes your crusade quite pointless and ridicolous.

Instead of your Pawlow-like hateful reaction to events, you could give constructive feedback on how to improve events and which events we players want.
We already got a huge improvement when gifting events went away. Now better help us get a good variation of interesting events instead of your spite. Please consider this.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The events this weekend are the type that a lot of players wanted and asked for. The boss was still boring as hell, but it didn't waste any of our resources and gave something to click while waiting for stuff to fill up. The other two could be accomplished during regular game play. All you had to do is do jobs and fight. That is what people do in this game anyway isn't it????

I finished mine already so no "wasted" weekend for me. Even if I hadn't, if you can't pay respects or spend family time this weekend if you wanted too because you just have to collect some pixels on a game because it is just too important and life altering to miss out on, then maybe people need to reexamine some things in their life.

What I see is a delusional, petty person who got herself into hot water, tried to mitigate the situation by sneaking over to ZCFU without telling her "loyal" readers, and sits on the fence over what her true intention was. Jennifer is just playing you guys. Where is she now? No support from your fearless leader? 35. I'm right here. Do I need to make a post that says I went to the ZCFU forums. I've given the site enough attention as it is. I've been reading them for over a year. Last night was just the first time I ever posted. I apologized to people who felt I was attacking the ZCFU site and tried to explain what my intent was. I pointed out what one member did on the Zynga forums and called him a troll because his behavior was trollish (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). I could care less if the ZCFU people like me or not. What would my intentions be to "play" my readers. I don't force anybody to come here and often the trolling that happens in my comments end up helping me in the long run. How would having a group of players not like me equate to being in hot water? I say stand in line because there are groups larger and more influential than ZCFU who don't like me. I don't care and neither should you.

@Merbeast, look a few comments up and I did post that link. I have nothing to hide over this issue as it's really a non-issue at this point. I have friends who are in the ZCFU and out of respect for them I do care. I should have phrased that comment to say "I don't care if certain ZCFU people like me". Not sure if they would admit it but you would be surprised who my friends on your site are. Honestly I don't even have a problem with you. I just post whatever I feel at the time and don't look back. If you all don't like it simply don't come here. This is a personal blog I expect to have haters as my views won't always be the same as others. I can post whatever I damn well feel like and hateful comments aren't going to stop me. All the fuss you are making hasn't increased my reader stats like I increased your mafia size. I wonder why???? Wasn't it you who posted that add me cheat? Told everyone how to do it? And I'm so sorry. I didn't see you in the mock war lineup. I just KNOW that you are participating, seeing as you condemned certain people for ruining an event that was for a good cause. Oh. No? You didn't participate? Well why not? If you weren't involved and didn't participate, how can you make observations and judgments? I began to suspect you were a fraud when you caused that uproar over that add bug. Now I know you are.

  41. LOL, a fraud blogger? Some people have nothing better to do in life so they think of any reason to attack others. Like I said, it's my blog and I can post anything I want. If Zynga puts out a feature that risks players FB accounts and I learn of a work I'm damn well going to post it. All this attention from haters is making me laugh. It's obvious people are just jealous. I'm truly flattered.

Regarding the add but, it would have been enough to just warn your readers of it. Why would you provide instruction on how to exploit it? Everything was fine until you stepped in sans a conscience. That wasn't an honorable act. That was exploitation.

If you choose to be flattered sweetie, that's your prerogative. I myself, would be ashamed but I guess that's where that whole conscience thing stuffs me up. Good day to you, dear.
